TheFragileGiant disappointment thus far.
kirby"New" CoD engine announced (not sure if actually new or revamped as usual).
Every single CoD game is literally just a more revamped and improved version of the Quake 3 engine, lol.

To be fair, most games at this point are just a more revamped and improved version of the Quake 3 engine (Valve games included!)

You know they said like two weeks ago that this reveal would be only of the console right? They're coming out with the full launch line-up at E3. I'm not punching my ticket on either of the consoles until after E3.

Those features are actually really nice. I have a Logitech Revue and it does most of that shit and it's... really freaking great. Tells you what movies and TV shows are currently playing and selecting them takes you to the channel that is showing them. It's actually incredibly nice and useful to get the most out of cable TV.

My big issue is a couple of things. Firstly, the fact that you can turn it on with voice activation really worries me. It means the microphone is always on. Secondly, I'm afraid that watching TV will cause the xbox to inadvertently do things. This is an issue already on the Xbox360 with Kinect, I generally disconnect the thing because it keeps thinking I want to do voice commands when I'm just talking to my friends. With TV it'll be worse as you don't even have to make voice commands for the Xbox to take them.

Also, why do both the PS4 and Xbox One not support 802.11ac? Routers are already coming out supporting the standard and my motherboard (which I bought in July 2012) has integrated wifi with 802.11ac support. It just seems silly to stick with 802.11n when ac is just around the corner.

Basically a glorified TV. No games except sports/CoD updates. Dance around like a bellend to watch a movie or use internet explorer.

NEVER MIND MY TICKET IS PUNCHED ON THE PS4. They're making you pay full price for a game if you try to play on another console, like going over to your friends house.

Why not just get a Wii U? Everything you can play on PS4 can be on PC but better. Wii U is pretty much all Nintendo first party with some other stuff in between.

Xbox One has to be connected to the internet at least once a day in order to play games on it
Plus if you want to take your physical copy of a game over to another persons house to play it you have to buy the game in full again

Who in the world thought that was a good idea?

The people who want to kill the used games market.

Also about the Wii U, while I think it's a neat system, my brother has one, I wouldn't spend any money on one until either the price drops or Nintendo starts pumping out the first party games because with the way things are looking third party support is going to be very very limited, but that's pretty typical when it comes to Nintendo consoles.

- You have to install all games to the HDD.

- You have to pay a fee to install a used game.

- Kinect must always be on.

- Kinect has a 1080p camera that can analyze your room.

- No backwards compatibility.

- Zero launch titles. (except for fucking Forza 4)

- You can plug your cable television connection into it...

- ...but you have to have an HDMI-out cable box. (Which they will sell separately just in case!)

- Quantum Break, exclusively for Xbox One, is a hybrid movie/game. Literally a Sega CD game.

- New Halo

Does this mean Wii U is the best next gen console? (Only for the games at the very least).

Actually, are any consoles worth getting right now? Wii U dropped in price, seems like next gen consoles might die.

God this thing is a trainwreck. When will console manufacturers realize people who know anything about hardware know how underpowered consoles are. So don't tell me it's "next gen"

If they continue the trend of subtracting 359 (see Xbox 360 followed by Xbox 1) between versions, the next one should be Xbox -358.

Calling it first

I like how several months ago some guy on Reddit posted his vision of what the Xbox should be called and how it should be marketed, and it was a million times better than what Microsoft's whole marketing team managed. It was so well done that many gaming sites reported it as fact.

http://b-i.forbesimg.com/matthickey/files/2013/04/xbox-infinity-2.png

Hire that guy and fire everyone who thought "One" was a good idea.

As far as the features go, their desire to put everything but games first is unsurprising, largely because the idea of "gamers" as a subculture is headed out the door. Everyone plays video games now. The average "serious" console gamer is going to buy an Xbox, and they know that. In order to move units, they want to attract the guy that plays Halo occasionally, but watches NFL every Sunday. They want the families that were swarming to buy Wii's because they thought it would be great for their kids. And so on.

Gaming as a whole has become so big that people you'd consider to be serious gamers have been marginalized. That's what happens when you go from subculture to pop culture.
