With all of this talk of health crosses, I have a question: is it possible to make a custom .vtf and animate it like a health cross?

You should be able to. I haven't tried personally but I have seen huds where the health cross is a heart.

RawrAnyone know how to replicate that shrinking animation or is it impossible to replicate?

As far as I know, I don't think you can. It shrinks according to how much health you have, and I don't see any way to edit that in the hudanimations file.

I don't see why not. Although you might run into the same problem I did when I tried to change the bgcolor of the default vtf for the health cross. The entire square image changed color instead of just the cross itself.

Ok, thanks everyone. Also, I am working on a hud that uses a ton of custom vtfs. For something like the winpanel, is it better to make the entire thing one vtf and then just put stuff like the scores and team names and mvp's in? or should I make it all separate vtfs?

Well I know that a lot of servers block the use of certain custom vtfs which I think is why many hud creators have switched to using font symbols instead for some of their hud elements. So I'm not sure how well having all custom vtfs would work. I would like to get a second opinion on this though if anyone else has experienced problems with custom vtfs.

Nah, put them in replay/thumbnails and they don't get blocked. But that doesn't really answer my question.

He was talking about the overheal cross, not the regular health cross. Although it should still run the event to shrink and expand your custom vtf image as long as you just replace the one used in the hudplayerhealth.res file.

I don't see why you would need separate vtfs in my opinion. Sounds like it's just preference to me though.

I believe this is an older KNHUD, but does anyone know what font the health/ammo is? Or where I could DL this version of the hud?

If you just want a box, you can also just add an image panel

Edit: Actually, does that box shrink to reflect how much bonus health you have?

Yes but image panels sometimes stay when you die at low health, this doesn't so yeah.

EDIT: Yeah it does, pretty cool if you ask me.

VoloderNah, put them in replay/thumbnails and they don't get blocked.

By the way Voloder, yahud uses a custom bg for hudkillstreaknotice located in replay/thumbnails and I've seen it get blocked. Although I think I've only seen it get blocked when the killstreak pops up while you're in spectate because it shows up farther down on the screen.

Edited the garm3n QL-Version a bit, mainly changing placement of hp and ammo, nothing too fancy though

Does anyone have any deeper knowledge of 'weight' parameters on font definitions in clientscheme.res? It seems to work on some fonts and make no difference on others. For Novecento, for example, (the font used in the newer Garm3n huds, yahud, and bwhud), adding a weight parameter (there wasn't one by default) yielded no visible difference. Is there anything I could be doing wrong?

You're going to be resizing them so for easier placement you should have them all separate. Having it as one vtf would make you have to adjust locations a lot and you may run into some issues with slight misplacements on different resolutions, plus if it's one vtf you can't re-use certain parts.

Most fonts only provide normal (100-500) and bold (600-900) variants. I don't know how well tf2 supports these though, maybe you're just using values too small, maybe you need the fonts installed rather than just inside clientscheme, maybe you don't have the bold variant for that font, maybe weight doesn't work at all. I don't know tbh. Whatever the case you'd be best off just declaring the normal and bold fonts as different fonts inside clientscheme.

Hello, so I tried what you guys told me to do when I logged on and it got rid of both of the damage numbers.

I just want to get rid of the damage numbers that show up on top of the person you are shooting, but keep the damage numbers that show up under my crosshair.

In HudDamageAccount.res, under CDamageAccountPanel, change the "delta_item_font" and "delta_item_font_big" definitions to "Regular69" or something like that.

Fairly certain it can be an undefined font. If not, then it'll have to be a null font.

Also, here's a preview of some changes to bwHUD I'm working on. Thanks to Zimmy for finding the fontfiles.

Search for TFCharacterImage in MainMenuOverride.res and change both the xpos and ypos to 9999 to move it off screen. Setting enabled and visible to 0 alone doesn't work, I think.
