arkonHonestly, why are we doing this? Did we gain any more exposure in the esports scene after doing this last year?

Absolutely. i46 brought in a lot of new eyes, and brought a lot more attention to tf.tv and comp TF2 in general. I've played TF2 for a good while over two accounts, and it wasn't until i46 where I saw things really begin to happen, and finally found out about tf.tv.

Basically, right now, this and ESEA LAN are our MLG, although this is a world event so it brings in more hype, and more eyeballs.

The ESEA S13 LAN winners will be the preferred recipients of the funding

Will mixup have any plans to reform/defend their i46 title?

Discussed at length here: http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/5843-i49/

short answer is 'yes', though

HugsThis is great news. Going through indiegogo, have you thought about what the reward tiers will be, if any? That's always a great way to wrangle a few more dollars from people. Better to keep rewards digital if you do decide to go with it so you don't have to deal with shipping and delivering physical goods.

Yes. We're fleshing them out. They will be absolutely extensive and, of course, appeal to everyone.

We're pretty excited to see the reception on this; we think it's the right move for the TF2 community, for a lot of reasons.

As far as that backpack sal, here is a random idea:

Use fully charged as a venue for the distribution of said backpack - x amount of $'s donated to the indiegogo gives you y # of tickets. Then, publicize the fully charged well in advance so that various donators can be online and a more-or-less public record of their having won something can be created, so that if they're not online some trustworthy third party (or group of them) can be in charge of distributing the l3wts to those who weren't present for the charged episode (which would more generally be about hyping the donation drive for i49).

It'd keep your actual work to a minimum beyond finding aforementioned trustworthy third party to hunt people down after they've won. We could also post the record of folks having won somewhere on the site.

It'd certainly generate interest from outside of the comp community if the items are good enough.

I know my old pub community (sourceOP) generated hundreds and hundreds of dollars just by raffling off simple misc items and low-grade unusuals at 5$ a ticket.

great. I assume you've already thought of what they could be, but is there any chance valve will implement some cosmetics for supporting the fund?
Giving people a badge/hat to say they donated or (more inline with what Valve are doing at the moment with DOTA2) to show which side they support, US or EU would be a good reward that I can see encouraging a lot of people to pitch in.

As I said on etf2l I was really hoping for a lan with 2 NA teams and finally the top OZ team coming as well, great to know at least 1 US team is coming, gonna pledge for the OZ team as well :D

I will donate for sure, for the NA teams or OZ teams doesn't matter, I just would love if we could have 3 scenes playing the best tf2 out there for the entire world to see..

Oh hell yes!

It was great to meet the Americans at i46, even if I all I did was get a photo and then awkwardly stalk them.
Hoping to go BYOC this year, so it'd be nice to be able to play with you guys, too!

I wonder what Harbleu thinks of the new Epsilon, since he plays them fairly frequently in Pokeman (his ETF2L team) scrims.

Instead of sending the winner, you should do a "All-Star" team based on the winners, but comprised of the BEST 6 players in ESEA Invite. Something on the basis of tryouts to figure it out, since basically everyone is really really good.

I much prefer the idea of an actual NA team going. There's something that's cooler to me about sending over people who already play together.

This will definitely be great to see again.

Also when is the date for i49? Won't esea s14 already be finished before i49?

arkonHonestly, why are we doing this? Did we gain any more exposure in the esports scene after doing this last year?

Even though this has been discussed to death, I would like to bring up the point (which has been brought up before but not as much) that so what if it didn't? There is a reason people donate thousands of dollars for teams to play at a lan every couple of months. The main reason people are donating is not as some future investment to grow tf2 into some super esport, it is to watch awesome tf2. A lot of the community want to see NA/EU/AU play at a lan environment because that is fucking awesome, and there isn't any need pass that to really qualify a donation drive for us. Would it be cool for it to grow tf2, sure but its enough for most just to want to see mix^ shit all over other continents tf2 scene.

The reason you don't see this type of super team in ESEA is because teams have to act like teams. The reason why you wont see b4nny on a team like mix^ is that they have two completely different styles of calling, practicing and playing the game in general. I would much rather see bp or mix^ go to lan with the 6 people they want because I know they will act like a team and bring a much better game than an All-Star team.

You had played before with tlr and the combos of plat&enigma and ruwin&pyyour. It wouldn't be a bad idea to do an all-star team of na, and while we are at it you can name the team "NA NA NA".
Europe can't do all-star teams because they are playing with their already teams, so i think it would be unfair.

if epsilon isn't a continental all-star team than no other team in the world can be classified as one
