i have been repressing the urge to spam this thread with everything canucks related for the past 2 weeks but I think I’ll just let this funny video sit here since i think it summarizes everything quite nicely.

canucks have a terrible defensive group and poorer than expected goaltending isn't helping at all. They have a bunch of bad contracts in OEL and Myers that are just taking up space, and they're playing Luke Schenn in the top 4 which is not a recipe for success

Really made no sense to acquire guys like Garland, OEL, Mikheyev, when you knew you had to sign Pettersson, Hughes, etc. Now they're going to end up losing Horvat who's been insane this year. The top six forward group is great, I don't think the bottom six has that much depth. They also overcommitted to Miller who isn't producing at the level he's expected too and has been embarrassingly lazy defensively this year. Good player still, seems he's been a problem on previous teams though

Bringing in Rutherford was kind of dumb since he's looking at a quick retool rather than a proper rebuild which the canucks kind of needed since Benning fucked their cap structure and got rid of assets like candy. The way they handled the coaching situation was unreal though lol, absolute shit show

Really though its not all that bad since there's a lot of good talent on the team, just need defensive help, and if Demko can get back to where he was the past few years, they add a top pick they'll be looking good.

pretty much everything zilly said is true. it doesnt help that most of the canucks' current problems are a result of previous management's bad decisions (trading away eriksson who only had 1 year left on his deal, bringing in OEL and garland who both have bad contracts with lots of term). can't trade away our problems cuz other teams want to win and are also up against the salary cap, so why would they ever take our terrible players.

Coach Boudreau was essentially used as a scapegoat for the team's poor play in spite of these poor signings from old management and a failure to acknowledge the gaping hole in our defensive depth by current management. Canucks are now on their 3rd head coach in 14 months, and they are still paying both Bruce Boudreau and Travis Green. with this in mind, something tells me it's not Boudreau's fault (aka the guy that turned this 8-15-2 team into a 40-30-12 team by the end of last season).

if u want my insider information, i know someone who works the 50/50 draft during home games and they say that the owner, Francesco Aquilini, is one of the rudest people they have ever met and it is rumoured that he is trying to do everything in his power to win a stanley cup before his dad dies (he is very old). obviously a sad situation for him cuz his dad is dying or whatever but to treat ur employees (who are both actively involved with the on-ice product, and those who are involved with fan interaction) like dog shit and force management into these ballsy moves and signings is just not how you deal with that. #SellTheTeam ...

not letting binner and flower fight is a fucking atrocity

also we had zero trade deadline posts so I'm gonna just list some of the big moves with everyone in the east basically loading up heavy

meier to jersey - great move since they can extend him, I think he's still an rfa

o'reilly, mccabe to toronto is great, except o'reilly gets hurt. awesome. losing sandin in another trade sucks but what can you do

chychrun to ottawa is huge for the sens even if they don't make the playoffs this year, huge need. arizona really dropped the ball by asking for too much for so long, teams that had the assets to actually bid for him all just lost interest.

boston picks up orlov and bertuzzi - the best team in the league just gets better, both seem to be a good fit with both rentals being able to fit in anywhere on the lineup

nyr getting kane and tarasenko for cheap is good for them, added to an already good lineup. honestly the rangers are great throughout their whole lineup but for some reason I feel like both adds were unnecessary, although kane was the best playoff performer of the last decade so who knows

edit: forgot about edmonton getting ekholm, huge need, didn't cost too much and he's a great player. They really miss klefbom/larsson and i'd say ekholm is better than both those guys were.

don't really remember anything else other than vancouver buying for some reason and Jonathan Quick getting shafted when he should have retired a king

alright so the other 5 guys in this thread can reply their playoff predictions

zillyalright so the other 5 guys in this thread can reply their playoff predictions

hi, one of the other 5 guys here

my teams already in so i cant say much other than we need to get healthy again. we replaced role-players within the system with role-players outside of it, so itll take some time to either adjust or get hall and foligno back. orlov's delivering so far, hathaway can generate assists, and bertuzzi hasnt gotten any majors yet, but theres defo more to be desired.

there is a genuine cliff between the haves and have-nots in the west, and playoff predictions there are kinda pointless. that said, every western contender has the exact same record, so the difference between first and eighth seed can be as little as a good final week.

i see the sens as (maybe) a dark horse eighth seed in the atlantic. while the panthers have been kinda hanging in there, bobby's been getting battered, and theyve done nothing to install new pylons for him. the sabres, on the other hand, still seem to be selling despite their recent success. i dont know how long they'll last either.

Love this move. I'm a little surprised to see him play down with Haula and Boqvist instead of with Hughes/Bratt or Hischier/Mercer though.

zillychychrun to ottawa is huge for the sens even if they don't make the playoffs this year, huge need. arizona really dropped the ball by asking for too much for so long, teams that had the assets to actually bid for him all just lost interest.

Definitely a phenomenal add for Ottawa. They're a sneaky good team, and one I'm really excited to see continue to grow and develop.

zillynyr getting kane and tarasenko for cheap is good for them, added to an already good lineup. honestly the rangers are great throughout their whole lineup but for some reason I feel like both adds were unnecessary, although kane was the best playoff performer of the last decade so who knows

Tarasenko and Kane are they sexy moves they made, but the Tyler Motte trade is the under the radar one that I think will pay off. A 4th line of the revitalized Jimmy Vesey, Barclay Goodrow and Tyler Motte is one that will provide offense, physicality and defensive ability. Reminds me of that Coleman-Gourde-Goodrow line Tampa had that was vital for their cup run. I'd expect that 4th line to have a similar impact. Hard to argue against the Rangers D and Shesterkin.

zillyedit: forgot about edmonton getting ekholm, huge need, didn't cost too much and he's a great player. They really miss klefbom/larsson and i'd say ekholm is better than both those guys were.

Massive nab for Edmonton. About time they tried to improve their defense!

zillydon't really remember anything else other than vancouver buying for some reason

Common sense says they should never make the Hronek trade based on the teams current construction if they want to win a cup. Problem is, they don't want to win a cup. The way they operate it's 100% clear that Aquilini wants playoff revenue, and when you realize their goal is to just make the playoffs and not win a cup, the Hronek trade makes a lot of sense, sadly.

Being a Canucks fan sucks right now.

zillyand Jonathan Quick getting shafted when he should have retired a king

I'll take trades that after half a month already look way better than I expected. I thought Quick was washed and done, instead he's been great for Vegas. Korpisalo has also been great in LA. Guess they're both working out.

Other deadline deals I'll rattle through that I was a big fan of:

Greenway to Buffalo: Not an exorbitant cost, and I like what he brings to a fun team.

Lazar to New Jersey: Cheap, solid defensive 4th line center who can kill penalties. 4th is good value for that.

Nyquist to Minnesota: He's hurt, and the league warned teams off of trying to cap circumvent by LTIRing him until the playoffs. Nyquist is good, Minnesota needs offense, and if he's bad he's a UFA. 5th is great value. Wild also getting Johansson (3rd) and Klingberg (A bag of pucks) were both good low risk moves before they get cap fucked next year.

Niederreiter to Winnipeg: Good player, good fit, good value.

And a couple I hate:

Bonino, Granlund, Kulikov to Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh spent a lot of assets and I don't think they got better. Granlund was a massive headscratcher, especially taking that entire contract. I guess the saving grace is that the rumored deal of multiple high draft picks for JT Miller didn't happen? Just a poor deadline for them.

Puljujarvi to Carolina: I get they love fins, I get he has pedigree, but similar to Kotkeniemi, I don't see him discovering that potential in Carolina.

Tanner Jeannot WTF to Tampa: I can't question Tampa, as evidenced by them sending 1sts for Hagel, Coleman, Goodrow and now Jeannot over the years, but jesus that trade felt way higher priced than it should have. Welcome to the flat salary cap world where cheap is the biggest booster of value.

zillyalright so the other 5 guys in this thread can reply their playoff predictions

I really hate to say it, as a Canucks fan, but this is my pick:

zillyboston picks up orlov and bertuzzi - the best team in the league just gets better, both seem to be a good fit with both rentals being able to fit in anywhere on the lineup

Best team in the league got better. This team may be getting old, but they're deep at forward, deep at D and have 2 great goalies, and only got better at the deadline. They kind of remind me of the 2011 Canucks. Only way this team gets derailed is injuries. Obviously a lot of tough outs in the east, Tampa, Toronto, Carolina, the Rangers, so they'll have to go through hell to get there, would love to see Carolina make the finals, they've been good enough for ages but live in Tampa's timeline. Do'nt sleep on the Devils either. East is death. I don't think Buffalo makes it, but if they get solid goaltending, they could upset someone if they get in, that D is strong and their offense is electric, goaltending is their major red flag.

West is going to come down to goaltending solely, can Oettinger match last playoffs and get Dallas to the finals? Can Georgiev keep Colorado alive until they're healthy? Vegas, I don't think make it deep, they feel like a first round upset to me. Would be fun if we got Kraken/Knights round 1, battle of the expansion. Minnesota I don't see getting the job done, Edmonton's D isn't good enough and their goaltending is too inconsistent, but you can't rule out a healthy McDavid/Draisaitl offense. LA and Winnipeg are intriguing, LA has such a young deep core, but I don't trust Korpisalo/Copley to get them past round 2. Winnipeg, can never write off Hellebuyck and they've played a really strong system, Bowness made the finals his first year coaching Dallas, can he repeat the feat in his first year in Winnipeg? My gut says no, but I could see it.

Final picks: Boston over Colorado in the finals.

U would love to see Edmonton in finals against Boston though it really depends who is going to be goalkeeper, ullmark is insane, he is doing such a great job. Swayman isnt bad either but lets say if boston wouldnt have crazy offensive players it would be bad. great example was this match 10.4 against flyers.

also fun fact Pasternak is 2 goals of, to be the best scorer in NHL from czech republic. current record holder is Jaromír Jágr from 95-96 Pittsburgh Penguins with 62 goals.

I will also mention that the Bruins beat the Flyers while resting Bergeron, Krejci, McAvoy, Hall, Orlov and Ullmark. If anything, a two-goal win here is just a testiment to how good the Providence Bruins are.

Are you for real? They beat a Flyers team that has been understrength since day 1 of the season and half our players are AHL callups. We are in the bottom 10 in the league when this game was played, had a backup coach running the bench as practice and a rookie goalie in net who was 3-11 at the time. If anything, you should have won by a lot more than 2 goals.

I hate your fucking team and your pompous fans so much. I know I predicted a 2nd round loss already but I am going to laugh my ass off if the Panthers send you guys packing in the 1st round. I watched both games and they are going to grind out this series.

great example was this match 10.4 against flyers.

SpaceCadethalf our players are AHL callups

the providence bruins beat the lehigh valley phantoms then, i stand corrected

i feel like getting some stability out of tortorella is a healthy way for the flyers to right the ship, and the atkinson/lemieux/risto acquisitions are providing the veteran grit that the team's (mostly) young core needs. that said, i recognize the injury bug you guys have been dealing with this season, and i get that its entirely at random and the nhl season is a bitch on players, but you guys have plenty of time. year 2-3 torts pops off, youll be back.

please try not to get so worked up over figure skaters in costumes, its centuries more enjoyable if you let go

I can’t tell if the rangers are looking strong or the devils are looking really bad. But regardless, seems like every team except the rangers has had been having some trouble
