it has come to my attention that some people do not have an internal monologue. when i say internal monologue i am referring to the "voice" in your head that you use to lay out ideas. i don't always have an internal monologue as i sometimes just "act"; typically when i am extremely tired. what i am referring to is people who are -unable- to have an inner monologue and "think" out loud.

i'm not sure if i'm being trolled or not so tell me tftv, do you have an internal monologue?

it's true, some people just don't have that voice inside of their head. Instead of talking about what they're thinking about, they just kind of feel it.

So where we might think "I should leave so I don't get my ass blasted by a soldier", these people without a voice can just feel themselves getting ass blasted by a soldier, and it's a sensation so unenjoyable they very strongly feel like leaving that area. Or something.

less of this, more of my brain speaks the entire sentence all at once, so like "leave so dont get fucked" is just a piece of information that suddenly appears in my brain

Speaking outside of the video game context, I am constantly talking to myself (whether internally or out loud), even when I am focusing on something. I work as a software dev, and I need to talk to myself in order to reason out how I'm going to approach projects and tackle problems. I prefer to speak out loud but I'm capable of using my inner voice when there's other people around so I don't sound crazy. The guy who sits next to me is unable to use an inner voice, and he is constantly talking to himself. Thankfully it's really funny when he does it and not at all annoying.

The only situations I won't be talking to myself are when I'm playing the guitar or DJing or making music with my synths. These are the only situations where I can zone out and put all my mental effort towards something.

I speculate some people adopt this fixation as a method of mental reinforcement, especially when there aren’t any live beings around to reflect your thoughts. The less you require it, the more it fades away

Those born deaf often have visualizations of ASL. People who become deaf later in life generally continue to vocalize in their head.

Something I find even more baffling is that everyone is on a spectrum when it comes to visualizing images. A complete lack of visualization is called Aphantasia. On the other end of the spectrum are people with incredibly vivid mental imagery, and everything in between. There's hardly any research on either one of these phenomenons, but I've been seeing articles about them pop up more and more frequently.

It really shows how incredibly resilient and adaptable the human brain is. Most of the people who live with these conditions don't realize they're any different from anyone else. I'm sure there are tons of people who have lived long and fulfilling lives with either one of these conditions.
