game stuttering every few minutes

my entire game and mouse movement stutters every few minutes for a second (sometimes there will be a period of not stuttering for a whole pug then it does it again) after i accidentally uninstalled steam and then redownloaded tf2

ive tried verifying game cache, allowdownload commands, playing without steam overlay, installing new graphics drivers, changing net settings, rammap program, snd_noextraupdate "1"

the only thing i haven't done really is reinstall tf2 itself

other games like OW or quake dont stutter at all

if you have any ideas for things i can try to stop the stuttering id appreciate it

Are you positive it is an FPS drop or is it potentially network stuttering?

had this same issue for a long time, only thing that fixed it for me was closing steam client bootstrapper through task manager. this would fix it for like an hour, then id have to close it again.

yeah actually this is still happening and ive additionally tried completely reinstalling tf2, changing dxlevel, overclocking my cpu, disabling windows aero effects, uncapping and capping my max fps, changing to a different graphics config, updating windows and disabling amd lag compensators. None of that worked, my game also stutters whenever someone joins a team too.

We may not be having the exact same issue, as I don't remember my game doing it when someone joins a team. But sometimes I will find my CPU usage spiking to ~90%+ every minute or two which causes pretty bad stutters (i7 9700k). Typically happens if I have too many chrome tabs open. Sometimes it's fine, other times it does this frequently. If I just close out all of the chrome tabs I'm normally good to go. I will also get stutters if the Discord overlay pops up a message while I'm in game.

Probably not all that helpful, but figured I'd share my similar experience.

I had a similar problem when I reinstalled a few weeks ago. I noticed that it only happened when I had discord open, and I (hopefully) fixed it by disabling discord's hardware acceleration:

I had this issue for YEARS, are you sure that you installed TF2 on the same hard drive as before? what made it stutter so much for me was that I had it installed on an extremely slow hard drive, once I put it on an ssd it was all gone

Check in task manager for a thing called "Steam WebClientHelper" and try to force quit it. Sometimes "SteamWebClientHelper" takes up like 3 GB of my RAM, making my game stutter.

I had some similar issues a while ago.

I know you mentioned "changing graphics config", already but that's what worked for me. I updated to the most recent mastercomfig at the time of the thread, I still had the issues for a while and then they just mysteriously disappeared. Maybe instead of changing graphics config just use the latest version of mastercomfig? Idk it's probably worth trying if you haven't.

EDIT: Also, maybe it's worth double checking if your .cfg files have any weird commands in them
