ESL has launched the new Monthly Challenge! The Monthly Challenge cup series has one cup each week, where you can get points to qualify for the Monthly Finals. Play every Sunday to make your chances for the Monthly finals better and better. Every win matters!

This cup will start Sunday 28th of April at 4pm CEST and will continue throughout the night.

This month we will be running on three cups due to the Easter Break.

Format
Thanks to everyone's feedback Monthly Challenge cups will be using the Swiss system for the qualifiers, which is a mix of both SE and DE but also has its cons. You're eliminated after 2 losses. You will play every round with a similar skill leveled opponent to yours. The team with the most wins at the end of the cup will be crowned winner. This is good for time periods (cup takes ~4.5-6h with 17+ teams) but doesn't have a grandfinal unlike the above two - More details here: https://play.eslgaming.com/swiss-cup-faq

The Monthly Final will be played as a single elimination bracket with the top eight teams from the previous weeks, with the winner of each month taking home the prestigious ESL medal!

Other Regions and staff
I have been working on getting more regions supported by ESL. This however has been a challenge as ESL cannot take any staff from US due to laws over there. If you live elsewhere and are interested in volunteering as an ESL Referee, we are now taking applications! Apply here if you're interested.

For people new to ESL Play, here's a quick guide on how to signup to the cup: https://play.eslgaming.com/guide.

Live support will be provided during the event via this Discord: https://discord.gg/ESLTF2
Signups are now open on ESL Play!

I have been informed that the Monthly Final this weekend will likely be the last as there hasn't been enough interest within the community.

Teams who have played in the Monthly Challenge have been invited, please check your emails to find details regarding it.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of support/space for another league in the EU community, ESL will likely be forced to close off the game.

I wouldn't say lack of support, there was almost no point to play these cups. If these cups were in evening (and maybe different days), more teams/mixes would probably join because they were going to play anyway around that time.

My only experience is that for one cup, we only played 4 games from 4pm until 8.30pm. So waiting time was around 2 hours, and in the end the best thing you could get is ESL premium. Pretty sure that almost nobody is playing to get esl premium.

Several people helped (in ESL discord) to come up with other ideas to get more teams involved. One of the ideas was to give out medals to all the participants. This is probably one of the easiest ideas to implement, and it will give players a reason to play at 4pm on a Sunday and potentially wait a long time between games. However, you/ESL said: "We didn't want to just give medals out like crazy, we wanted to make sure that the medal was kept moderately rare and had to be challenging to get it, hence why it's the monthly challenge!"

So ESL made the decision to keep the medal rare over keeping the cups alive. Imo that's just ESL not willing to invest in TF2, not a lack of support in the EU community.

Honestly, people were able to play back in the days in essentials cup in the same timeframe. And telling that people were not avaible ESPECIALLY good players is completly wrong http://logs.tf/profile/76561198015569189/uploads?p=5
I don't count you obviously TimTum as you're one of the players who is getting involved almost every cup, but the sad reality is that pug players don't want to give a chance to ESL, which is really sad as Mitch is working his ass to make it work.
