anybody looking to get it? it looks really well made in terms of graphics and design, and has a lot of interesting aspects to it like the whole "it's not an mmo but everybody is playing in the same universe and could potentially interact" design

also the fact that there's literally billions of billions of planets possible for one to start on and explore is pretty dope

read somewhere that 90% of the planets are uninhabitable and hold no intelligent or non-primitive life

$60 is really steep for a pre-order so i think i'll wait until there's release reviews and people playing before i buy it

I've been hyped since the first info came out - a bit put off by the $60 price tag, though. Have heard lots of criticism for the possible lack of end-game content / story. I hope they've added a lot in the past few months!

I won't preorder. Single-player random generated games are all about how good the random gen is and how many/what kind of human-created elements there are in the game. There is just absolutely no telling if this game will be fantastic or garbage without having seen real gameplay.

I might be persuaded to drop money if procedural generation is actually good and and theres a large variety of different planet types with interesting topography, and stuff going on. If exploring is interesting and varied enough I really won't have to care about the amount of stuff going on gameplay wise at all. However, I suspect that this won't be the case. Reminds me a lot of SPORE which didn't live up to the hype at all. I'll wait for a bit after it comes out to see the verdict and then buy it if it seems like those things are done well.

the301stspartanThere is just absolutely no telling if this game will be fantastic or garbage without having seen real gameplay.

i found a couple videos that ign did with the game company's founder and one of the game's main coders and designers

i think the gameplay is only alpha and beta gameplay in the single-player offline mode, but it still looks breathtaking graphics wise and immersive gameplay wise

i heard that if you leave a planet and come back all the stuff will be different. so all of your stuff that you worked on all those hours gone in seconds. that kind of sucks. idk if thats completely true though

I feel like with procedurally generated games, the majority of the content is bland. Computers aren't that good at knowing what's 'fun' for people. I won't be pre-ordering, might buy it on sale if it ends up being good, but I doubt it will be

I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but in a video I watched the lead designer said something alone the lines of "when you leave the planet, it's all gone. The grass, trees, etc etc." It sounds like he means your progress is also gone, but I took it as he meant it is no longer rendered by the game. At the time he was talking about how the interstellar environment loads all around you as you move throughout it, so I assumed by him saying "it's all gone" he just meant it is no longer using up resources. As I said though - he could have meant everything changes and your progress is lost. Which would be a deal breaker, IMO.

Overall I get a very similar feeling from this game that I did from Spore. Thankfully EA doesn't have control over this one, so hopefully it will be better than the massive letdown that Spore was.

the only other game that seems to be like it is elite dangerous, but the main game is $30 plus the $30 horizons dlc = $60 and the community doesnt seem as big as NMS

There's so much hype about this game with so little substance to back it up that I think it'd be wise to wait and see how it pans out.

I pre ordered, I can just get a refund if I don't like it.

To me, it's more than what I wanted at a bare minimum, if I can fly around in a spaceship and visit cool new planets n' shit that's fine for me. All the other trading, fighting bollocks is just a bonus.

FYI: the PC version got delayed (again) to the 12th August worldwide, PS4 dates are still the same (source)

The good news is that there will be a pretty huge Day One patch - notes here.
