Having abilities in an FPS suddenly makes it a MOBA? Smh guys, personally I am really interested in the game and pray I will get a beta invite to test this game out, the only thing so far that looks wonky to me is how players interact with damage, coming from quake/tf2 and being used to forceback and juggling etc

No you're right, it doesn't make it a MOBA. MOBA's typically have top-down views, lanes, shit tons of item builds, and numerous champions. The reason I said that "I'd be disappointed if it's just a MOBA-FPS" is because it looks very similar to a MOBA. If it plays like one too, with nothing different, then I'll be disappointed. I'm not at all saying that having abilities in an FPS automatically doesn't make it a true FPS, because the only standard for an FPS is the first person perceptive really. My reasoning is just that it looks like it will play at least somewhat like a MOBA, with you having to learn exactly what a large range of champions do, are weak to, and are strong against. They might potentially have a pick/ban system for ladder play as well.
You could argue that at its core, every FPS has similar elements to MOBA's, however, the game has some things that I'm not used to seeing in an FPS, which is why I drew the comparison.

Fair point. Outside of the few people who have played it, we're really just speculating what it will play like. Shit, looking at TF2 trailers doesn't give you any idea how fast the game can move. I am really looking forward to it, even if I don't end up liking it.

i mean blizzard's putting out tons of gameplay videos and stuff so we know what the game plays like, but that could change at any point seeing as the game is in closed beta.

Don't have access to the beta, so I wouldn't even begin to know what kind of options the userbase would have at optimizing game performance.

Hm... Overwatch, for me, will probably replace pub server TF2. It just looks a lot more fun and diverse.

Competitive, not so much.

My main concerns about the game so far is that Blizzard has been really, really good at making characters fun to play, but not very fun to play against. Limiting your opponents' movement in an FPS really is not a good idea. And not only does McCree have a flashbang (aka an insta-win-button), they also continued that philosophy in Roadhog and Junkrat with their grapple hook and bear trap.

Movement in general seems very limited- which is not a bad thing, just not my thing.

Finally, only Payload and A/D CP maps. Nope, nope, nope. Really not interested in that since it always seems to turn into a tedious attrition grindfest instead of 5CP's tug of war I love.

Thoughts?

No community servers (or so I heard), no weapon bans, no character bans etc. So we'll be forced to stick with what Blizz throws us. I agree with the customization thing, their hud throws me off, and the viewmodels are just too huge imo.

So I've been just looking at the characters they have released so far which sits at a total of 18 and fall under the following class breakdowns: 5 offense, 5 defense, 4 tanks, 4 support.

Note: Granted these class breakdowns are pretty fluid as they are capable of both defensive and offensive roles, and the supports aside from like mercy and lucio seem to have strong offensive capabilities.

Here's some of what appears to be extremely broken shit for a class based fps:
3/5 offensive characters have an ult which auto targets every enemy in the character's sight and kills them or deals ridiculous damage:

  • McCree: Has a period where he can aim and lock on every enemy in his field of view, weaker enemies can be locked on faster, once finished attacks each one doing tons of damage
  • Reaper: Area of effect ult which just targets every enemy nearby, no lock on period, just literally deals damage to everything nearby with autoaim
  • Soldier 76: Auto-locks on all enemies in his field of view and deals massive damage, swaps to different target as previous one dies or leaves field of view

2/4 supports have just broken abilities that fucks anything regarding fights or strategies:

  • Mercy: ult revives all nearby dead teammates with full health in the middle of a fight
  • Symmetra: has an auto attack which autoaims on enemies and deals more damage the longer its hitting(which
    seems pretty easy considering it autoaims for her)
  • Symmetra: ult insta builds a teleporter which can bring any teammate from spawn immediately to her location in the middle of a fight

  • Hanzo: Has ability that activates wallhacks on an enemy in a certain area if they walk past it, Ult travels through fucking walls/obstacles and deals massive damage.
  • Widowmaker: Global ult which gives all team wallhacks on enemy team
  • Torb and Bastion: Engineer classes, just really annoying and not fun to play against

So yeah, this seems SUPER fun for an fps team game.

No lan support...ok. So basically Blizzard is neutering any independent leagues from using their game, and holding pattern by not letting people host community servers. That honestly makes no god damn sense for what Overwatch wants to be. It wants to be an e-sport, but Blizzard is monopolizing league play, which will hurt the game in the long run imo.

There's absolutely no excuse for the whole no Lan thing but I can at least understand where they're coming for it with no private servers. It's looking to be a five on five game in that much different building communities with 10 person servers versus 24 person. It could easily end up being terrible especially if their options for options for custom games with friends are bad and if there are no custom maps, but I don't think this is the immediate harbinger of doom that many think it is.
