Hi guys,

My computer is probably about four - five years old and I keep getting USB devices no recognized (usually my printer that does that) and even recently my cell phone being pulled in, to my wireless internet adapter not working when the printer is going. Would the problem be that the PSU is giving out? Hope you guys can help me out.

Thanks

Processor: Intel i7-920
Mobo: ASUS Rampage Extreme II
Memory: 3 x 2GB Triple Channel Patriot Viper RAM
GPU: Radeon HD 5850
PSU: Cosair TX 850W

Doubtful it's PSU issues, computers use more power when playing games than when idle for example, and a 500mA power draw from a USB port won't significantly affect the overall power use of the system.

Have you tried multiple ports?
Have you tried both front and rear USB connections?
Have you tried rebooting if it occurs?

I've had a lot of USB issues on an i7-920 build of mine that used an EVGA motherboard.

I have tried all of those three when trying to get my printer to work. I usually IF lucky have to unplug and have certain things in and out.

I had a headset that only worked on my mobo with a separate powered usb hub. If you have one to test with that would be a good thing to check.

I doubt his printer is USB powered.

Hey guys just bumping this thread as a new problem has risen.

I previously had issues with my usb devices not working properly/being powered now my computer is constantly rebooting after a couple minutes. So it first started yesterday when all of a sudden my internet connection was no longer working even though it was connected to the network and then goes into aero mode (no transparency), then finally reboots on it's own. This process is repeated over and over again and all of my programs crash even my plugins, be it chrome, tf2, etc.

I have tried even going through safe mode(s) and just reboots on it's own still. I've also scanned my computer with malwarebytes and there appears to be no viruses. I as of right now think it could be a my PSU.

Thoughts?

PS. it will never just shut down.

Check your power connections to motherboard. I've had similar problems(infinite boot loop) that was solved when I jiggled the CPU power connector.

Nope it did not work. I also tried to change the PSU wall plug and didn't change anything. Also on my first boots it reboots three times before even coming to the bios.

Although doubtful, check the voltage level of the cmos battery. Weird stuff can happen when it gets too low.

Thanks Sizzling! So far it seems to be working. I cleared my CMOS and just replaced the battery with a new one I had lying around.

Check the printer companies website for updated drivers.
Same for the network adapter.
As for the rebooting could be that the mobo is damaged/faulty (this may also explain the usb issues) Considering you have a 920 I'm guess its nearing/at the end of its life span anyway. So if nothing else works its probably time to upgrade.

Cool, you're welcome.

A drained cmos battery can also ultimately show up as random fps drops or just low fps in general (or other sporadic pc behaviour). It's worth checking for anyone who has an older pc. PSA maybe?
