lvl4I hope everyone stays in ESEA so we can have a main division again and maybe Open will be moire fun

:(

that's up to all the im and high open teams - we get a main division if im doesn't die every season

so far this season looks pretty great, the only dead team in im is goldman sachs and i don't think any high open teams are dead yet

hype!

sallpalyikes guys, get in a mumble and hash that out, a public forum is a shitty place for the rest of your team to find out what you think is wrong with them :-[
plinkoAlso, while I'm posting here - I'm pretty sure that a bunch of people posting in this thread are on teams that would qualify for the UGC->ESEA challenge prize. There are about 8 teams in it, but there have to be some more that are eligible but didn't apply.
I said I'd cut off applications at the end of week 2 of the ESEA season but I've been pre-occupied with other stuff and never chased for more applicants.

So, if you think this thread is talking to you/your team, hop on over and consider applying. If you talk with me on steam/PM me on the forums by Wednesday night, I'll extend the deadline for you. I know the "rules" are a little wonky, but if you're all/mostly brand new, you're probably eligible and it will definitely give your team something to play for in the back half of the season.

Are you gonna post up a list somewhere later so we can follow rankings? :> im pumped

calling supremecommander for a badass website to track qualifying open teams in terms of ranks :)

No can do (at least for now), but I've got a related project in the works. Hopefully what it shows will help some Open teams from getting discouraged by their results.

So my team is currently LF Tendamonsta. If anyone has any information on his well being, please contact billdozer. The blizzard may be causing him issues, but he's been offline for like 48 hours now... its concerning.

he also answers to the name tendie, and if you walk out the front door and shake a bag of weed he'll usually come running. we miss him very much. real talk, if anyone knows whats up, let me know. like dreamboat said, its a little worrying.

A bit late but who cares. I think my first mistake was deciding to jump right into open. I played 1 season of iron 6's and HL before playing this season. Second mistake was probably running a team. I have no leadership skills and I don't have the heart to cut someone if I like them as a person. Third mistake was creating the team with 4 other friends from a pug group. I really enjoy all of them as people and playing tf2 with them is fun, but a serious competitive team is a lot different than occasional pugs.

Recently I cut our medic (well he sort of quit, he yelled "cut me" after a scrim where he dropped on purpose and kill binded to prove a point) for being rather toxic. Everyone (besides me and one other dude) really liked him so it was a domino effect. His departure (and other reasons that I've been recently made aware of) caused another teammate to leave which caused another to leave. Monkeysuit and I didn't have trouble finding three more gamers but I feel shitty. I feel like this team of me just playing in open with some friends really turned into me wanting to win open (which is unrealistic to begin with) and I've become a dick. And I think some of the people that quit or were cut are not on good terms with me which was the last thing I wanted to happen.

Our new team with a pretty much fresh roster is much better than the old one but I miss playing with my friends and I feel like I fucked them over. Also I don't really know anyone on MY team and that feels wrong. We recently beat victorious secret in our first scrim with this roster so I'm confident in our ability to make playoffs. Other than my own idiocy and drama, playing tf2 against players better than me is super fun and challenging. But at the moment the stress of this roster bullshit is out weighing my enjoyment of the game. Next season I'm hoping I can just join a mid-high open team without the fuckery or just stop grinding tf2 and play csgo on an open team.

EDIT: no longer looks like a wall of text

if ur actually trying as hard as it sounds like u r ur gonna be way better for it

feel free to add me if u need somebody to go over demos with or give feedback

i guess to expand on what im saying is a lot of people start playing open and realize that they dont enjoy tf2 competitively as much as they thought

this is fine

ive been on teams in open where u get halfway through the season and realize that you have vastly different goals than the other people you started the season with

opens a big jump but taking the baptism by fire now rather than later will only do you good

Honestly the biggest thing that held me back from ever getting out of open was having different goals in mind then my team.

When I finally joined a team that actually wanted the same things I wanted, and practice just as hard (probably even harder) than me Open was amazing and it`s carried forward into this season. Now that the season is about halfway through, the games are gonna get a lot closer, and a lot more fun.

Give it your best shot, but don`t ostracize your friends over a video game. If you are a new team leader and you`re having a struggle with a player on your team, the best bet is to take it up with everyone on the team and have a talk to see if the issues can be worked on. If they can`t be fixed then you can look at cutting someone, but always try to get your whole teams input first.

If you someday make it to open playoffs, you will be turned into men and learn what 300 ping feels like. After that, no challenge is too big to overcome.
