Yeah, it's if their inventories are private.
Means a waste of money for a lot of people who had signings from the i52 fund-raiser.

Iunno. If I go on a $200 single malt whisky bender in one night, I'm probably going to enjoy it.

But I'll probably think it was a waste later on.

That said, if people want to spend their money on stuff like this, it's not my (or anyone's, really) job to tell them not too.

I don't know about you guys, but I donated to send our incredible players to Europe. The signed item was a nice bonus, but I think you guys are missing the point.

I think It's completely wrong for anyone to tell others what to spend their money on, as they possess it and most likely earned it. As for me personally, I think it's more practical to invest in things that are tangible in reality, rather than items that do not even affect gameplay and otherwise only serve as an online ego booster.
Feel free to 'enjoy'(?) your signed weapon.

That said, if people want to spend their money on stuff like this, it's not my (or anyone's, really) job to tell them not too.

First let me say that I spent the money to send players to europe, and the weapon will be a nice bonus.

Secondly, your example is terrible because you said later on you wouldn't enjoy it. If someone continues to enjoy their weapon then it isn't the same.

Thirdly, there are so many things in the world that have no tangible value that people spend money on. Like tattoos and jewelry. Also, an unusual has no more effect on the game than a line of text.

Tattoos and jewelry are very valid forms of expression.(tattoos come in forms of art, expressions of sorrow for a dead loved one, same for jewelry) Whilst in game signed weapons are not. You're not expressing yourself, you're a expressing an avatar you control, just to show everyone that you're weapon is now 'special' because it might have the name of a professional player.
The have literally no value. They don't help you in anyway possible, except boost the internet ego, which is poor reason at best. I'd rather have tattoos on my body than my soldiers' body in TF2.
There is absolutely nothing WRONG with buying a signed weapon/expensive hat, it's just not practical.

honestly i don't give a shit I'm just glad i know who signed my weapon. It shouldn't be signed to impress people or flaunt around, but to inspire you by the player who signed it.

boppetit's just not practical.

Well literally nothing about tf2 is practical so lets just narrow everything in life down to people's most essential needs and never have fun or anything we don't absolutely need at all.

EDIT: Expecting some retarded "comeback" with a shitty example explaining why I am wrong just for the fuck of it.

Don't dissapoint tf.tv

The example wasn't supposed to be 100% accurate. I chose it because it's something that, in hindsight, you might end up regretting- spending $10 on getting a scattergun signed might end up being something that some people regret because there's other stuff they want to spend it on. Iunno.

In your case, you donated the money to get players to Europe, and I'm assuming that you enjoyed i52 enough that you don't think the money is wasted. That's fine. I just think that there are probably at least some people who will look at the money they spent to send people to Europe or just get their weapon signed and go "Man, in hindsight, I should have kept it for something else."

I'm not saying that it isn't worth the money to get something signed, or to send players from NA and Oz to Europe to play TF2. Just that hindsight is a thing.

The prices of tf2 items are way less volatile than BTC. At least TF2 items don't fluctuate hundreds of dollars in price in 24 hrs.

Well, this sure got out of hand.

Me saying some people might feel like they wasted money didnt include myself, i donated because i went to i52 and i wanted a sick competition, which we got.

All im saying is, some people might feel a bit bummed out because of a something that happens on steam.

Y'all chatting about what gives you value in life need to chill out. That's too deep for a tf2 forum.

just wanted to say that getting a weapon signed is kinda like wearing a band T-shirt, just showing support, communicating to other fans. yeah it's trivial but I think it's cool that people care.

zigzterI believe that happens when the person who gifted it has a private inventory.

No, it actually depends on if this person is on your friendlist or not. I'll post some proof later.

So yeah.

Here is the first screen. I can see the name because I have tagg on my friendlist.
Here is the second one. I can't see the name (it's actually signed by ipz) because I don't have him on my friendlist (I don't need to send a link again, right?).
So, that's how it looks for me. However, I can see all these names through other websites where you can check someone's backpack.

The end.

Edit: Apparently, tagg is no longer on my friend list so now all of my signed items are gifted by [unknown].
