I actually have to MOVE from where I grew up (and my family) in order to find affordable housing (and employment). Housing costs are going to destroy the 15-30 y/o generation in this country.
There are some decent places about an hour out in Baltimore - but if we're not talking there then I'll be shipping my ass out to the deep South (which is not bad considering I know people down there thanks to college). I'll never be able to afford 90% of Maryland.
you could team up with a buddy to buy your first house. And really, anything you put into a house you get back, plus some. We made 90K on our first house after only 5 years, so in the end it's worth it even if you don't live in your desired area yet. It does get better!

The funny thing is, since I've been faced with the death of my best friend I've just kind have realized that it's better to not dwell on these things. At first I thought that I'd remember him by taking on his outgoing and spontaneous lifestyle by dating this girl to begin with, and now I'm finding that it's about not worrying about it afterward too.
