modmic 2.0 issues?

Does anyone here have any issues with their modmic? I recently finished my headset mod and started using it with my new modmic tonight. Sometimes it totally cuts out and I go mute, other times the volume is low, or there is a lot of static. Its not the jack for sure, my other headset/mic is fine.

If anyone knows of any modmic issues please let me know.

This only happens when I stream/when turn up the volume of the mic but you can hear a lot of static/feedback from it. Other than that, it's okay for me.

Mine did the same. I'm on my 2nd pair so far because the first had totally went out on me. AntLion were nice enough to send me a replacement for free, but assuming a lot of people are having issues with static or their mics going out, they probably aren't as willing to do that now.. you could try to email them though.

Mine occasionally turns to static/wind noise but restarting mumble or just re-plugging it in seems to fix it. Still really happy with it. Would be interested to hear if anyone has experience with the newer models.

Got in!
Thanks for the help, again, atmo-

So thrasher, I got your email. We're working on a built-in solution to the cable management problem and I'm hoping to get some samples from prospective manufacturers soon. I think many will still rather use braided sleeving/HSTubing and we're looking at some similar solutions.

Jethro/LeatherSock/et al. - Our 2.0 electronics manufacturer did a shoddy job (it turns out...) on soldering in some batch(es) with the strain relief part where the boom wires are soldered onto the cable's wires. It's by far our largest reason for defective mics. We have changed the mold/soldering for the strain relief and are hoping to have fewer future issues with soldering joints now.

If your mic does have any cutting out or static with movement (wiggle the cable coming out of the strain relief to test), don't hesitate to contact us/me at customerservice at gtdevice * com and we'll get you squared away. It's been a huge growing pain for us and our customers but it's been nice to see that people are usually pretty understanding and chill about it--even in forums ;) (we do try to deliver painless customer service....).

randomirislad- you will be getting the improved strain relief version if you ordered recently. We've had a few of the improved ones fail at our in-house QC but it's looking much improved.

Okay, I'm off. The TF2 community has been with us since the start (thanks Atmo!) so I'm here for you guys-

I'm hesitating to order one since shipping anything to Germany is a pain in the arse due to different tolls and taxes, but the amazing customer support is just blowing me away I might just order one once I have some more money at hand.
Any news on getting some international / European distributes yet?

it comes in a really small package (some small tube) so I wouldn't think it would be too bad. definitely worth it, great mic :)

From the FAQ
"We ship using USPS and usually ship orders the day they are received here (when we're in stock). It usually takes 5-10 business days for international orders to arrive (after they leave the US). German customs sometimes holds the packages for a few weeks. Depending on your country’s customs policy, you may be charged VAT or other customs fees upon receiving your microphone."

The 3.0 was out of stock so I ordered a 2.0. Anyway, your customer service seems top notch so I fear nothing if anything bad happen to it.

Thanks for the support, guys-
We're waiting on our 4.0 (we'll call it the "pro" or something) to do proper distribution. So EU distribution is a few months away. I can't wait to get that all set up.
Our 3.0s should be in stock around Wednesday, just be sure that you've got a non-realtek sound card that's on the "works" list on the 3.0 blog post.
And yeah, shipping to Germany is a real pain for both parties. :/

Since this thread is recent I'll just bump this one.

So I have an original Modmic. Recently I've been wanting to improve its quality. The main issue is that there's a lot of noise, I'm not sure if it's my computer, fan, or just white noise, but it's annoying for streaming. I have heard pretty much 100% clear recordings from the Modmic (not as good as an up-close Snowball, but who's going to be 5 inches from that?). I am using motherboard audio right now. I was mainly wondering if that would be an issue, and if I should get a sound card.

try this:

go to sound settings (right click the volume icon in your taskbar and click recording devices), click on your microphone, and go to the properties. go to the enhancements tab and select disable all sound effects.

I don't have that tab.

Edit: Actually, I don't think I ever installed drivers for my audio. Pretty sure I've been using the default. It just says "High Definition Audio Device."

It's most likely because you're using onboard audio on your motherboard.

Here are two recordings I took a long time ago with my modmic(I think it's a v1):

Motherboard audio.

Creative sound card.

Yeah, that seems like the issue here. I'll look into a soundcard. Thanks.

I'd ask here but that's better suited for its own thread.
