why are we fracturing the community by encouraging people to not play ingame matchmaking
can we have a queue where its unranked but the entire pool of level 3+ tf2 faceit players can play it, where the system tries its best to create a balanced lobby, just for content, not really regulated

#86 is wrong faceit before tf2pl was even worse than tf2center. it has vastly improved but it was never designed for high level play
Kev777I am even willing to play these pugs every day for a month if they happen that much and stream to prove how aids it truly is. Im serious if people want to see why no one likes to play faceit anymore I will put myself through any pug does not matter how bad it seems and captain.
An ultimately pointless effort to be honest. B4nny already does this and everyone is well aware of what Faceit pugs are like, for better or worse, and still nothing has changed. It should tell you everything that even someone like him who has more leverage than any of us due to his position is still unable to make changes happen...well, assuming he would hypothetically want said changes in the first place.

It's a cool quip, but wrong. Ingame matchmaking has always been more casual in every single game. CSGO, TF2, DOTA, Rocket League, etc.

b4nnyIt's true though.
Lad when will you realize that the things you want from playing tf2 and the things that almost everyone else wants are wildly different? You want to make a living off of the game, everyone else wants to enjoy a comfy hobby the way they've enjoyed it for years

Faceit is sooo close to being great. The first issue is that people OF ALL divisions aren't playing because they might have to med. The second issue is more complex... low-mid advanced players aren't queuing while simultaneously amateur players are disproportionately worse. Not because the div is stupid, its because the decent amateur players get ranked up to advance then disappear from that environment. Its brain drain on the community's main practice ground.
My ideas to fix it are:
Add class selection first to get people interested in pugs again.
Cultivate the population of low to mid advanced by giving them a place to play (ie chance of inter-division matchmaking if pop is too low). That way instead of amateur players staying in an environment where everyone is bad, they'll have someone literally teaching them in their pugs. Plus it'd give them more of a reason to climb to advanced.

hmm i wonder how our reasonable mild-mannered CEO will respond to the four pages of carefully constructed critique and suggestions that have been put forward within the last 20 hours

im not sure if telling newer players who get fat kidded to deal with it because older players did as well is the best idea if we want the games player base to actually grow. no fatkids + the ability for players to work their way into advanced and play with better players is really good for newer players to make a name for themselves
class selection should absolutely be a thing in advanced pugs though
this is probably a faceit thing not a tf2pl thing but i wish it was easier to see whos added up when its time to ready up, so i could know if i was about to ruin an invite pug or not

if you scroll over the button to add up it shows a list of currently queued players

the whole 'avatar is what class u play' thing is ridiculous
either faceit has a dev who can implement captains/classes/fatkidding or the pugs will always suck ass
theres literally no two-ways about it

Honestly one of the biggest issues is the time needed to reach mid-open level status and up.
To even reach mid-open status you need probably around 1500 and up depending on your average gamer. and even more if you want to become IM level etc. And most people only play the game for at least 1000+ hours
because of this there is a lack of higher level players and the skill between them is much more apparent because there is a lack of players
for example: say we have 3 sevens, 3 eights, 3 nines, and 3 tens (not necessarily going by faceit level) only available to play a game. as you can see the distribution is even. but since there is such few players they would all have to play in the same game. now say there were 24 sevens, eights, nines, and tens available to play. then there would be games that would be evenly distributed by rank.
Basically this system would be fine if mid-open could play with mid-open etc. But we have such a small player base that we will always have a skill difference within most of our pugs. even then this site was big from the beginning we had the issue. I'm not sure what would be the solution to this. But I just want people to understand as long as the player base is this size, we will always have this issue of uneven pugs
EDIT: basically the beginner side will always be fruitful, but the more experienced side will always suffer

I want to love faceit but it just feels like it's missing so much. I like the idea of playing pugs without getting fat kidded every single pug and I like the idea of a quick easy to use queue system for pugs but the skill range on faceit is just so huge that I never know what I'm going to get, will I get matched up with a team of people who have never played comp tf2 before, or will I get matched up with a team of alts?

SlicerogueI agree that faceit is a worse platform but i also believer that pugging on faceit will provide benefits long term. With that said there was this post which I think sums it up quite nicely on a previous post.

ok i just gotta say we tried esea pugs for a good bit and they were frankly awful, im not going to put myself through playing unfun pugs just to hope to someday *maybe* do something for the game in the long run (yea guys im sure a valve $100 million major is gonna happen just keep playing faceit pugs and cross your fingers)
the game is ten years old i dont think its going to suddenly get big because we played faceit lol

Walrexfriendly reminder that pugchamp isnt so fun for the boys getting fatkidded for hours on end
im forever a fatkid everywhere and i can tell u ur wrong nigga
and tbh the system is so bad whereas on pugchamp pugs would start at like 1 or 2 in the afternoon compared to faceit where there has been many days where i get on at like 5-7 in the afternoon and seen 1-4 people added up
and this is so terrible esp in advanced because you'll have people like me who'll be added up for so fucking like (upwards of 40 mins to an hour) and completely forget they even have the thing open and didnt want to play and then once you finally get those glorious 12 and the ready up is on your screen, 8 people afk out.
like honestly if ur like me and just want to play anything when ur bored the play is to derank urself if possible once u get into advanced so that u can queue into both amateur and advanced because that place is almost always alive
also can someone please explain to me why tf class selection is still not a thing like why is this not talked about enough can we go back to pugchamp yet
