#54 "Matchmaking will fail" - Muselk in TF2 General Discussion
aieraare you ignorant or just pretending that they weren't in mlg (and even in earlier evos)

those tournaments were literally one-third of the size if not smaller. you can get a 270-man tournament with a snap of the fingers and a decent prize number in 2016. even if there was this sudden up-and-down that's as extreme as you imply, it's still wildly missing the point; in 2013 people went to huge lengths to make melee into something huge (scar leading streams into the EVO donation drive, and travis spending all of his time to make the smash brothers documentary, to name a few), and while you can argue that didn't guarantee it, at the end of the day that effort still made sure it had a chance

if the counterpoints that are being made regarding "scenes succeed because people involved actually care" can only be "well sometimes the example isn't 100% like our situation!", then my point remains

I mean, if you want to argue /r/tf2 opinion, I should point out that the counterargument is double what muselk's argument currently was in votes:

bl4nkI like how people just mention melee as if they were around and followed the scene of that game back then or as if it the circumstances that allowed melee's resurgence can be replicated with tf2. I followed melee religiously from 06-14 but don't wanna bother typing a nerd essay as to why this won't happen with tf2.

I was the one person that mentioned it, and I was around back then, because I remember arguing with shitheads who thought trying to win the EVO drive was a lost cause

scenes can succeed if people actually give a shit, this cynical mindset that you've already lost will kill the game harder than anything else ever could

nyki think its hilarious u kids talking *** about muselk. u wouldnt say this *** to him at LAN, hes JACKED. not only that but he gets 20 killstreaks in pubs, can perform various trickstabs and once hit an airpipe. yall are pathetic lol

I'm aware that this is out of irony but I'm cringing heavily regardless

#64 removing rng from competitive tf2 in TF2 General Discussion

hackers already have a class that can get free 150 damage at any time, why would it matter that they can use a secondary weapon used to pick off people who've been already damaged

remember, if you don't already have a massive competitive fanbase, you're guaranteed to always lose. just look at super smash brothers melee, 12 years in and they get into a major tournament? pffft, like that'll ever go anywhere

#16 Highlight: Corsa vs. Aeonic in Videos

either a) statistically bad and the worse option at all times or b) devolving and uninteresting to deal with

obviously that's wildly subjective, but from a sheer standpoint of strategy, the big earner giving you a decent chance at two picks means you can feel more comfortable in taking a lower-end pick like a scout slot, on the basis that you could build off of that to do more spy bullshit as you see here

it's not a massive buff, and it's still easy to play around, but it's a nice little extra addition

#893 /r/tf2 posts that make you cringe in The Dumpster

I specifically remember what CSGO looked like back then, and there's a lot of similarities. people tried to get each other to stream more often, you had sites promoting streamers who could barely break three digits, everyone saw it as a console FPS with a PC port (which, granted, was how it was treated for the first year of its lifespan)... shit, I'm pretty sure there's a thread on here from the first update they had which contained skins and cases

the reason their logic falls flat on its ass is because it inherently assumes all casual players are as stubborn in their ignorance as the randoms on /r/tf2. in the same way a lot of people on TFTV started out as a casual TF2 shitter in pubs, so could potentially anyone else come matchmaking... but ppl like them are stubborn in their obsession to, uh, not actually obsess in a particularly useful or functional way. casual elitists are funny people

in a world where almost every other spy unlock is miserable and/or toxic for one reason or another, I'm glad the big earner actually makes for more interesting plays

#20 Update speculation in TF2 General Discussion
toads_tf>uncle dane knowing anything about competitive update

at least he's kinda popular, even if he's still ignorant on some subjects. you could try and argue that he had someone mention stuff to him

this guy is just some random youtuber nobody ever heard of who wants more views, and tbqh the fact that we're talking about it now means it's working

#75 QUAKE CHAMPIONS in Other Games

honestly a 1v1 DM-based shooter with character selection similar to fighting games could be cool as hell

so naturally, I doubt that's what this game is going to be doing

a thought on something that's random still, but in a far more controllable way: instead of spread, the pistol has a random pushback that moves the cursor [x] degrees in a random direction with each shot (w/ the amount getting slightly larger the longer you fire). the pistol will always shoot at the center of the cursor, but now the skill is in making sure you can consistently control it

this could severely fuck up how people have learned tracking over the years though, so idk
