#7 TF.TV Splash Screen in Site Discussion
Snivyuberchain and I are going to be brainstorming some ideas for a splash screen. We're probably going to be including stuff like the main parts of the website, what we do, rules, etiquette, and so on.

We want to know from you guys on what else we should put on it. Go ahead and suggest away.

somewhere there are tutorials to getting into competitive tf2, that should definitely be there somewhere.

#10 where was the GC message for the ETF2L grand final in TF2 General Discussion
bearodactyltoads_tfKissakalaThe stream was first on the stream list in-game. That's way more exposure than a post about it.
People who cared probably clicked on it. It's not like a post about it would make a significant difference.
nobody ever clicks this tiny-ass button of a tv on the main menu or any of those small buttons up there except when they get a new item. the boost of viewers only happened when that automatically opened and people actually saw the streams.
Did they change this in the most recent update? I don't really see any problem with the stream list opening up automatically when people launch the game, only issue is that it could get annoying if it was there every time you hit escape or if you close it and it opens up again.

i don't know when they changed it, but there was a noticeable drop in viewers that was sudden rather than gradual. it doesn't make sense why they'd do that if they wanted tf2's audience on twitch to get it but

i'm 99% sure it's because people bitched about it on reddit.

MertYe my money is on that no one on the tf2 team was aware of the grand final happening let alone putting an announcement up for it in game

literally all they have to do is look at tf.tv's upcoming events once a week

TsarbucksWe did get 1k views, though. That's pretty good

1.2k-1.5k for a lot, that's definitely an improvement from last season, but the numbers would have been much higher with some recognition from valve

#42 TF2 Update on Matchmaking in TF2 General Discussion
GemmellnessBurningSmileGemmellnessGeel9Valve is really making good on their promise of significantly improved communication. Hope this is a trend and not a one-off.
it won't be, every time they fuck up they make a few blog posts about communication then nothing for the next 6 months
I can't ever remember Valve being this talkative with us. (besides that one Halloween post no one gave a shit about)

im talking mainly csgo (where they fucked up with the rifle nerfs & r8) and other times (can't remember specifically) where they apologised, made a blog post that vaguely explained some stuff and promised more communication followed by nothing.

that said this 2nd post (even if it literally just tells you what they've already changed and outlined some small changes for the future) is a decent sign

yeah it's a decent sign but keep in mind csgo is not at a point like tf2's where the developers MUST NOT fuck the updates up to give it any chance of growth

#31 TF2 Update on Matchmaking in TF2 General Discussion
popcorpThere's still no feel of a reward, playing the competitive matchmaking/casual. I think if they added a Overwatch's Loot Box similar system in Tf2, it would bring more players to matchmaking, Just award players with loot boxes that contain random hats/skins after each level in casual/competitive and then people will start playing.

Just saying that it's not all about how MM functions, but it's also about what can you get from playing it and how can it be more popular.

this is even more true since 99% of the drops you get are not even worth a cent. in csgo you get random drops too, but you can get some really good stuff. dropping a loot box with a random skin (skins you only get in drops, a la csgo) is much better for tf2 because a) it gives you reward for the rank to work for and b) unboxing something always makes it more rewarding and c) gives a chance for drops that you actually care about or enjoy looking at, not your eighteenth baby faces blaster

they could really put anything in "loot boxes" that arent unlocks

#5 List of stuff to fix for valve? in TF2 General Discussion
SmytherReally guys? You wouldn't ask for some of the simpler, more obvious weapon rebalances first? Like "cosy camper now only adds 25 health"?

priorities?

#3 List of stuff to fix for valve? in TF2 General Discussion

ill copy-paste this from the other thread. these are very important because they have to do with the core of the competitive part of tf2 valve is trying to introduce. bug fixes are great, but theyre not going to mean anything when nobody wants to play the game.

-the system is basically whoever plays more gets a higher rank, or whoever six-stacks. When everyone starts at rank 1, if you're a very middle of the road player, you're going to lose/win half of your games, depending on the skill of the player who is ranked 1 instead of higher because of a lack of placement matches, and are going to stay there yourself.

-there's a memory leak (i think? some error to do with dx9 shaders repeating over and over) in matchmaking which basically makes it unplayable for some people after a game's worth of play, or if it's a long game, you're fucked with 30-40 FPS by the end of it

-viewmodel fov: please cap it at at least 70, minmode viewmodels look alright with 70, but at 54 even min viewmodels look like you're holding it right in front of your face.

-you shouldnt have to be booted to the main menu after every casual game. casual is great, don't get me wrong, but it could be so easily improved by giving the option to keep playing. Or just do the CS:GO system of vote for the next map, which, to be honest, would be great.

-not related to the core aspects of the game, but since this game just got it's competitive update, i'd love for valve to actually point players toward actual competitive in some way shape or form-- in game. One way is to fix the stream UI to always be open-- that led a lot of players in, and boosted view counts. Now that's toggled off and as far as i can tell nobody clicks the button to turn it on, and since it was toggled off, viewer counts have dropped. If the problem is showing the community trashy streams, then maybe make a box that appears when there are competitive game(s) going on. That notification that the ESEA grand finals were happening was great, and I'd like to see more of those.

#10 Crowns eSports Club drops roster in News
Gazfarnsworthhow many sponsors does tf2 have left?If I recall correctly only Ronin and technically running with scizors still have sponsors. I also heard of an ETF2L team which is supposedly being sponsored by matcherino, can't really say anything about that though.

ronin's not playing next season though....
