I've managed many tf2 servers over the years, and there's something that really bugs me-

The UGC Configs.

And every config based on them.

They suck. They haven't been updated in years, they have weird broken STV settings if you properly unexec, the networking in them is outdated and awful, the naming scheme is kinda weird, etc.

So, I decided to make new ones.

Introducing-

The NEW TFCL Configs

These are brand new, from scratch, modern configs. They were originally designed for the relaunch of TFCL, and I've decided to publicly announce their existence because I'm very tired of dealing with the crusty old UGC/RGL configs. Almost every line is commented with an explanation of what it does. There are NO unused commands (except for tftrue lines if you don't have it installed), and the network settings are tuned to be as competitive as possible without preventing lower internet spec'd players from playing.

Furthermore, there are separate configs for scrims and matches for 5cp, as a large portion of people change winlimit to 5 in their configs already anyway.

I have done a lot of personal testing with these configs, in my own highlander/6s scrims. Please give them a try and let me know if there's anything that should be changed.

I'll try to get these on serveme asap. They are already live on cpu.tf servers, and you're welcome to put them on your own servers.

I'm also considering forking Miggy's old plugin (RIP) to try to force consistency on every sever but I'm not sure if there's any interest. Again, let me know.

I've had fullscreen opts disabled since like 2018, it still just instacrashes which sucks. im just using vibranceGUI at this point because it's not going to change fps at all and it actually works, unlike reshade

do everything in this little github snippet from mastercomms (here)

reinstall/update graphics drivers

verify game files

completely remove your custom folder (you can rename it to have a _ at the end and it wont be read by tf2, also works)

if none of that works try literally just deleting the team fortress 2 folder and just reinstall from scratch

post your cfg/custom if that doesnt work

how tf do u install this (reshade) for tf2 without it instantly crashing lol

reshade requires dx9 right

ok so i've been a little busy- here's an update log:

added sourcebans to all the servers, you can find the bans page here, has all the bans from the old server etc.

added the server hop plugin back from the old dm servers

changed the whitelist to
- wrap assassin
+pain train
+shahansha

and also i removed all the annoying noisemaker shit, pyrovision, explode on death things, blah blah blah

hello all, figured id make a new thread instead of pointlessly bumping the old one,

Fog is shutting down his DM servers near the end of July (26th? 27th?) and
they're shut down for good now

tl;dr i put together some new DM servers in a datacenter in Missouri.

This thread will serve as a place for me to update yall on important or unimportant shit that i'm doing with them, and for yall to report bugs and other feedback, though honestly itd be a better idea to add me on steam for that because i check that much more regularly

anywho, the dedicated server these all run on has excellent routing, somewhere around 10ms (30ms total) more than chicago nfoservers have (20ms total) for me in Ohio, so ping really isn't an issue, esp. since they're primarily for american players.

Anyway, they all have the essential plugins the old servers had, including the steam level limiter and TFtrue, and i'll be setting up a system to add the old bans from Fog's servers to each of my servers' banlists and synchronize them with each other. should be fun. never mind I just added sourcebans

they use this whitelist, and these maps (though not in the same order on each server as this leads to the same maps being played on different servers, which isn't a good idea imo)

these maps and the whitelist are subject to change, based on community feedback thru polling, which i've already done, somewhat

there are currently 3 "normal" servers, aka 4 players per team with a max of 2 scouts, max of 2 soldiers, max of 1 demo, and max 0 everything else per team.

there's also a sniper server, with the same 4 player per team limit, with max 2 scouts, max 2 soldiers, max 1 demo, and max 1 sniper per team.
