#184 "Masters of Classes" powered by TF2Stadium in Projects
drshdwpuppetLordHelixI'll apologize if my posts seemed harsh, but i call it like i see it. Downvoted or not, i feel strong about my opinion, and my opinion is that despite the good intentions and the basic accomplishment it did for newer people, it doesn't seem to be as much of a game-changer as it should...again that's just me.

Downvote and bash if you like, they dont mean anything...

Everyone feels strongly about their opinions. The problem with your opinion is that its stupid.

I was not prepared for the laughter that these sentences induced.

#95 Hassassin_ cheat evidence. in TF2 General Discussion

These threads are pretty gross. If a person is self-conscious enough to make an alt, download a cheat, use that cheat against other people, and get caught doing so, they should be punished. "Oh, pubs don't matter" is such a stupid response. Let's face it, none of TF2 matters. You're effectively putting all competitive players on a pedestal over pub players and saying, "you don't matter" to those pub players.

You say you want to give a person you like another chance--I'm all for it, but they got caught cheating, so their second chance should come after the same punishment associated with people who are caught cheating in a competitive setting. They're still ruining people's fun all the same, it's just a different set of people. It's unfortunate that most leagues don't care about what happens outside of their league.

For what it's worth, I'm not saying hassassin is guilty; I haven't inspected the evidence, but I do agree with whoever mentioned how bizarre the hivemind mentality of defending cheaters is when it comes to this community.

It's also disappointing to see just how many people are drilling the OP into the ground, when all he was attempting to do was raise awareness that a somewhat top level player in this community has been allegedly proven to be cheating and lying about that cheating, even if his methodology wasn't perfect. I, for one, would prefer to know if my competitor has been caught cheating against other people, regardless of whether or not that was in a competitive setting.

#4 Windows tuning for good FPS in Customization

This is a terrible guide. Disabling many of these services will not only yield no performance boost, but will actively cause issues. Disabling bitlocker encryption service blindly if you've used it to encrypt data is a problem. The secondary logon service is used to elevate a generic user account to administrator access (think UAC and similar) and will cause issues if disabled. Routing and remote access is used for internet connection sharing.

I'm not going to list each service and why this is bad; just don't do this. If you want to disable some services to see the less than 1% gain you'll get on any multi-core PC, please do adequate research before blindly disabling potentially OS/network breaking services.

#10 Cost of fixing a monitor? in Hardware

Agreed with TechDude. Every company will have something like that in their legal clauses, but if you've shipped them the monitor and they've given you a quote, that's what it will cost you. There is a very remote possibility that they'll replace the display and then find something else wrong, but in my experience (I've sent dozens of monitors in for various clients) the quoted cost is what they charge even if they have to replace more afterward.

I would just pay the $120 and take the functional monitor even if you intend to replace it in the next 6 months.

#9 Sli 970s preforming worse that my old gpu? in Hardware

David, I'm glad that you are running without issues, and I do agree that the problem has been minimized since early 2014, but microstutter is still very real and cannot be -completely- eliminated due to the architecture of using multiple cards with crappy, slow bridges. Using two or more cards will always result in a higher frame variance than a single card simply because the PCIe bus is much slower than the card's internal circuitry. There are various tweaks that can be applied to the Nvidia settings to minimize it, and in certain games it is almost unnoticeable due to programmers actually actively negating it in engine code, but unfortunately it's still unusable for many. I'm actually jealous that you don't notice it, but I've yet to use a system running SLI that didn't drive me crazy (and this includes SLI 980 Ti cards around July of this year). I am hyper-sensitive to that sort of thing, though.

Windowed mode -shouldn't- be an issue, but it is possible that his cards are not properly detecting 3D rendering and ramping up the clocks (obviously not a guarantee).

#6 Sli 970s preforming worse that my old gpu? in Hardware

Did you purchase two video cards just for TF2 or do you play lots of other games as well? Unfortunately, being heavily cpu-bound, the source engine doesn't benefit much (at all, actually) from a second GPU in most cases. In several test systems, I've noticed average FPS being anywhere from roughly equal to convincingly lower than a single GPU in TF2 over the past 5 years. Additionally, you have the added feature of microstutter as well as other fun SLI-related anomalies to deal with once you enable that second GPU.

SLI is unfortunately a very underwhelming technology for those of us who are sensitive to things like input latency and microstutter. If you purchased the cards new, I would very highly recommend returning them and buying the nicest single GPU card you can get for that money, if possible. If you intend to keep your setup for a few years, you'll be better off getting a single GPU with a ton of VRAM since newer games are starting to utilize 6GB and even 12GB rigs.

Regarding your performance with a single card, it's likely because of what you've already noted, that your video cards are running at idle clocks. This can be caused by several things. Are you running TF2 in windowed mode? If so, try it in full-screen.

#28 tf2c bans guy for a year for mentioning tf2stadium in TF2 General Discussion
SaturniteWhat I want to know is what the ban log means about "trolling mods main chat". Was it just the complaint about tf2center and mentioning stadium, or were they already trying to shitpost?
Geel9I disagree, Slin... it's a private website and it shouldn't be used as an advertising avenue for a competing service. It's a dick move.
They have a right to ban people for whatever they want, but Slin was right. People aren't going to trust a site that hands out bans or mutes just for casually mentioning another site.

Unfortunately the trustworthiness of a site or service is not built on the quality of its admins. ESEA hands out bans like this frequently and for dumber reasons, yet the community has continued to trust them for 15+ paid seasons.

This is just a case of power-hungry admins who think they are cool by berating and condescending others. Let their power die with their site and move on. >:-)

#8 College internet drops out in Q/A Help

This could be a million different things, but Windows has crappy wifi management services that are notorious for causing this exact issue. If it's being caused by these wifi polling services, there are many ways to fix it, with one of the simplest methods being this piece of software: http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/. Make sure you check 'Enable streaming mode' and 'Disable background scan' for best results.

#39 Unlearning Movement in Q/A Help

universe nailed it!

Really though, mine's not as bad as it seems when you consider I'm left handed, so my right hand is on the keyboard.
My thumb hovers around alt/space which I use to go forward and backward.
My fingers rest on RDFG which is very similar to your WASD, I just use jump and duck in place of your forward and back.
Pinky hits H/J for weapon swapping (I also use mwheelup and mwheeldown for weapon swapping depending on situation).

The first game I ever played at a higher-than-casual level was an old PC game called Descent, which was basically a flight sim in space where there was no gravity. Movement was completely free on all six axes, so there was the equivalent of strafing up and down as well as left and right (and inverted Y due to the flight sim aspect of it). I just never bothered changing things when I moved to ground shooters.

#31 Unlearning Movement in Q/A Help

Mine isn't as weird as the config shintaz used, but it's somewhat unusual I suppose.

Invert mouse on, rawinput on
r=jump, d=left, f=duck, g=right, alt=forward, space=back
m2=fire, m1=alt fire, h=slot1, j=slot2, 4=slot3, e=reload, t=medic

At one point I actually decided to stop using invert mouse and migrate to a typical wasd setup. There is no shortcut, you just have to hop in servers and play like that. It will take hours, possibly even days to get used to changes. In my case, I was actively playing in leagues at the time, so it was hard to commit to it all, so I reverted after a day. The odd thing is that returning to my normal movement keys was easy, but I had confused my brain and hand memory with the invert change that it became very difficult for a few hours to aim vertically regardless of which invert setting I was using.

Invert mouse is still the king though, unless you play shitty call of duty games where it randomly stops inverting for no reason (advanced warfare did this constantly).

#107 Dumb Competitive TF2 Trivia Thread in Off Topic
mustardoverlordTheFragilemustardoverlordor s6 lan where oplaid got the admins to force a single bo5 finals instead of 2 bo3s for the lower bracket teams due to flight schedule and beat fanom that way
Pretty much all of this is wrong.

This was the only ESEA LAN (to my knowledge) that had lower bracket finals and grand finals on Sunday.

We (blight-fanom) had flights that left around 5 or 6 PM. When we realized there were lower bracket finals to wait for, we were hesitant that we might miss our filghts. We asked blight-own and coL to start a little early, and they said that was fine. However, they ended up getting there late and warmed up for a while, so they basically started at the time they were supposed to (maybe a little later, I forget).

The match went to all three maps. The first two maps took an hour each, and the second map took about 30 minutes. With breaks between each set, it all lasted about three hours or so.

We were then informed that finals were a single bo5, and the only advantage we had is that we got to pick the first two (or maybe three?) maps, and then the rest were random. We figured that because the first match took so long (and because there was a whole different match before grand finals on Sunday), we were running out of time. We asked the other blight team if a single bo3 was acceptable. Some of them were fine with it, some of them were indifferent, but blackymonster (and maybe oplaid) were adamant that they would only do that if we couldn't choose to play Viaduct (easily our best map).

We were at their mercy at this point, so we quickly agreed. While we sat down to warm up, Torbull forced all of us to instantly ready up. We had absolutely no time to warm up, even though the other teams did (on top of a three hour set), and we got fucking destroyed on the first map.

As I've said, I'm pretty sure this is the only ESEA LAN that had lower bracket finals on Sunday, as well as a single bo5 for finals.

how is almost everything I said wrong? the only difference seems to be that you're saying blacky and not oplaid was the main force behind it, and that the esea admins fell in line really quickly and didn't need a ton of convincing

as to the former point, I remember that oplaid was the team leader so he was the one who talked most about it to torbull, and as to the latter point I never denied that esea weren't super nice about it themselves

tl;dr for that incident

None of us on either team knew the format had been changed from a double bo3 to a single bo5 until minutes before the match. This was not a result of oplaid or blacky or anyone coercing torbull. We were told it would be a bo5, then ww and other members of blight.fanom were concerned about the flights, so they approached torbull. It was deemed that we could continue to do a bo5 and if it ran late, they would just have to forfeit, or we (blight.own) could agree to do a single bo3--winner takes all. Mesr and I urged our team to just take the bo3 to help everyone out, but blackymonster yelled something like "tell them we'll do it but they can't pick viaduct!" and obviously that ended up sticking.

#10 Scout LFT in Recruitment (looking for team)

Sal... Hmm.. He's a very generous person. I've thought long and hard about how to describe this guy. I will attempt to convey his personality via a list of words... Should you choose to give him a chance, here are nine things he will bring to your team.

-Benefactor. His financial contributions to this game are well known.
-Laudable. He loves to play the game and it comes out with his general attitude.
-Optimist. He will never give up. Will always try to improve and win, no matter the odds.
-Waggish. He will use his comedic wit to keep the mumble environment jovial.
-Juggernaut. He will crush the competition!
-Observationalist. He will spend time trying to understand how to better the entire team.
-Beguiling. He will brilliantly add Panamanian swag to your team.
-Scrupulous. His efforts to make your team the best it can be will be unsurpassed.
