#17 Stream Content in TF2 General Discussion

I have to second what DanceNumber said. Having a schedule was really, really helpful for me when I was trying to grow my stream, as people could always tune in at the same time each day (or each week, if you don't want to stream every single day) and expect to find you live.

Also, it is important (in my opinion) to be interactive with your chat. When I stream I want the people watching to feel welcome there, and I do what I can to "break the fourth wall", and make the chat feel included with what I'm doing, even if in actuality all they're doing is watching me play a game.

I also think that its important to make sure that you're doing things you enjoy while streaming. If you're streaming pubs/MGE just for the sake of providing stream content, then you're doing those things for the wrong reasons. Having streamed pubs for a month after I stopped enjoying pubbing, I can say that it'll definitely have a distinct effect on the quality of your stream. People want to see the person streaming having a good time, so if you're just mindlessly pubbing for the sake of streaming and not really enjoying yourself, then I personally find you're missing the point of streaming in the first place.

Try installing without crosshair settings. I know it's a bit of an inconvenience to install it without them since you'll have to do it manually, but for some reason the crosshair section of the installer causes crashing for a lot of people.

#408 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

For anyone dealing with cut-off values on the main target IDs/MvM robot health numbers:

-Get the file called HealthIconPanel.res from the base HUD (or open it if you already have it).
-Change the wide/tall values of the "HealthIcon" section to be larger than 32x32 (I used 48x48 in my HUD).
-hud_reloadscheme

You might have to experiment with values until you can get it so your values are no longer being cut off. I didn't even know HealthIconPanel.res was a thing in existence til I was notified via flame here.

It does need to be noted however, that in order to edit how the health display looks, you'll have to edit the values in SpectatorGUIHealth.res.

With the way the TargetID system works at the current time, there's nothing any HUD developer can do in terms of reverting back the health location.

There's a section of the TargetID.res file (the file that controls the TargetID information) that deals with "SpectatorGUIHealth", which is what we used to edit (in conjunction with SpectatorGUIHealth.res) in order to change the styling/size of the health numbers before they made the switch.

However, because there were no major modifications to the TargetID.res file during this update, yet all HUDs (including the default) switched to this new system, this is a pretty good indicator that there's nothing that can be done unless Valve decides they want to revert back their changes. It seems to me like they just ported the MvM boss health system into TargetIDs when inspecting friendly targets.

rayshud v3.98 is out!

It includes the following changes:

-Added support for the new game-modes.
-Health is now displayed above the player model instead of on the Target IDs.
-Fixed health being cut off when looking at friendly players/MvM bosses.

You can download it here:

https://github.com/raysfire/rayshud/archive/4919edd20f49f5f7d6b8a0b075a9c8b3ff72df1b.zip

Or via Tree's install here:

Sorry I'm late on this!

Please be aware however that the TargetID is still very buggy, and sometimes you'll see "%Health%" in place of the actual value! This is a Valve bug, and until they release an update that fixes this, there's nothing that I can do. Thanks!

Version 3.97 is out!

It contains the following changes:

-Fixed backpack page numbers not appearing; added in the "new" tag.
-Me being two weeks late. Sorry team. :(

You can download it here:

https://github.com/raysfire/rayshud/archive/2f60cab94135bdd52856a9d9b3f0f85fd20bd922.zip

Or via Tree's install here:

Sorry for the super late update! It came out right when I was in the midst of midterms and I didn't realize that it was preventing people from navigating their backpacks properly. I've recently been struck by an idea though, so the development of the overhaul update (4.0) was most likely speed up rapidly over the next few days! Thanks for being patient with me.

#80 CEVO LAN Finals @ theGXL in Events
dingoi play it they dont
the stvs never came
you want me to format my criticism?
1. dont use some shitty "secret hud" that people may not like maybe you could just stick to a format that the community has already responded positively to
2. what the fuck was that color overlay, jesus christ i love casts where i can actually see whats going on
3. maybe have casters that actually have played the game competitively in the last year? i dont think gxl had a lack of those and we could at least use one caster that has a clue of what the fuck is going on besides two people who are (still doing a super duper job and trying their best) have no fucking idea what the teams are going to do or what they were attempting to do
good job responding to criticism and using thefragile for more in-depth analysis (or maybe getawhale was just tired)
good job casting for a long-ass time
also can we not watch the stvs live because gxl wont provide them or is it some issue involving server security and ddossing
cause i would really LOVE to just have the stvs provided before the game goes live so i dont have to subject you all to my horrible forum posts

The HUD being used at the event is essentially a slight modification of the same eXtv HUD that's been in use for the last 5-6 or so months; all that's different is a different font, different control point icons, and a few smaller changes (removal of stretched skulls when players die, health bars that are a slighly darker blue when a player is buffed, and a darker killfeed).

I tried my best to be both receptive to what both community and eXtv as an organization wanted, as well as being as transparent as possible, when developing it - In fact I even streamed the development of it, and did my best to be receptive to the cricism that those that watched threw at me while I was making it, in addition to abiding by the desires of eXtv. If there's something you see that's glaringly wrong with it though, I'd be happy to give it my best shot in terms of improving it. After the LAN's conclusion on Sunday I plan to release it for general use by the public (both the version used at GXL as well as the main version that uses Futura as a font), and I'd like to have all of the kinks worked out by then, so knowing what I need to fix now would benefit everyone in the long run.

As for the color correction, I'm going to assume that in order for the production to run as smoothly as possible they used a capture card to grab the video from the cameraman's PC and send it to the production PC, which in turn hurt the quality of the video feed. I'm sure that if it were at all possible to give the legitimate in-game colors the production crew would've done that happily. However, I'm not there so I don't know if this is true or not. Regardless I don't think they were trying to hurt anyone's viewing experience.

ComangliaSo i've noticed when using your hud and enabling outlines almost every time their's a 3-5pixel gap between the Crosshair/Damage Number and the outline. Am I the only one experiencing this?

I've not heard of this before. If you could provide a screenshot I'll do what I can to look into it and see if I can't fix the issue. What OS/res do you play on?

#104 Speedrunning in Off Topic

If anyone has recently started running games, how have you improved over the past few weeks?

I started speedrunning Sunshine any% in mid July, and it's cool to see your own improvement as you go. My first run was a 4:48:57, and my current PB is a 1:51:28. While it's still a ways off of the world record time of 1:19:24, one of the things I like most about running is looking back at your previous runs and seeing how much you've improved in that time.

#48 Twitch offically aquired by Amazon in Off Topic
La_maisonKanecoPossimpibleI imagine amazon putting up buy links for music instead of muting everything. That would be wonderful.
A logical solution that also doesn't hurt their consumers? I only believe it when I see it

Why not do it the way Youtube is handling this? If copyrighted music is detected, that segment isn't eligible for ad revenue.

And why shouldn't they back off from the VOD deleting? I mean, they now have unlimited storage in Amazon's cloud, which is incidentally used by the freaking CIA.

I'm sure that if it were at all possible, Twitch would've just followed suit in the steps up YouTube and done something like this. However, VODs generate no ad revenue, so it's not as easy as just saying, "Oh, we'll make this particular VOD not eligible to generate ad revenue to the producer."

I think a nice middle ground would to do what Possimpible said and just have the content ID system redirect users to a place where they can purchase the particular song, rather than just use it to mute sections of video entirely. Right now this isn't possible due to their 30-minute segments thing, but it's already been stated that as time goes on they intend to just mute/block sections of video that contain copyrighted content.

As far as I know, the only ways that a partnered streamer can get revenue via streaming is by running live ads, getting subscribers, and direct donations from viewers.

#20 hudcreator.co.uk - Online HUD creator! in Customization
KanecoThis is really amazing.

Just needs a bit more development so we can do stuff like change health color when your hp < a certain number and stuff like that

That's not possible, and unless Valve changes the way their HUD is coded, it won't ever be possible (unless someone can potentially make some sort of workaround via HudAnimations_tf.txt). There is a section of code in HudPlayerHealth.res (the file that controls the health values) that is labeled as:

"HealthDeathWarning"	"0.49"

Which I assume is the percentage of health a player has to be lower than to be considered in "low health", but upon changing the value nothing changes; which makes me think it's another one of those pieces of code Valve added in when they were making their own HUD, but don't allow its value to be changed.

As for ammo, there's not even a section of code that dictates when you're low on ammo, so again, unless someone can think of some crazy type of workaround in HudAnimations_tf.txt, I don't see that being changed either.

Hey guys,

I've been out of the HUD business a bit this summer because I've been busy with streaming. However, now that summer is ending, I'm getting back into the swing of things. I will say that again, I'm sorry for the lack of support in terms of answering questions; I average 5+ HUD questions a day from my stream, email, steam group, comments on my profile and this thread and as a result a lot of questions have gone unanswered. I really am very sorry for that. I'll do what I can to try to get back to all of you, just don't take it personally if my response is a bit delayed/you don't get a response.

As for stuff relating to rayshud:

I've begun work on a big overhaul update that will hopefully be here within the next few weeks. I don't want to say too much, but a few things that will most likely be improved upon/updated will be the scoreboard, main menu, and tournament spectator panels, and before all is said and done, customizing not only your health/ammo, but also the color scheme the menus the HUD uses will also become easily accessible and fairly simple to edit.

I've also went ahead and condensed (as well as redone) all of the screenshots that were originally in the first post, and put them all together into an imgur album. You can view that here:

http://imgur.com/a/vsxPG#5FRCt9I

Thanks for sticking with me even though I haven't been doing the best job as of late, I promise I'll make an effort to provide better support on down the road!

plobsNightGoatplobsi think i still have my old gba but i was wondering if speed running it of an iPhone would work as well
The controls may be an issue, unless you are really comfortable with them.

yeah but there isn't a way to capture it i don't think or a timer

Use a GBA player on a Gamecube with a capture card, but I dunno if they sell those anymore. I'm sure you could find a used one somewhere, though.
