#3 SGDQ 2015 in Other Games
drosoWhere is witwix?
I wanted to see his epic Boshy run again. :(

It's a bonus game, so chances are it'll be a donation incentive; I'm sure it'll most likely be met too.

#1 SGDQ 2015 in Other Games

Event Info:
Date: July 26th - August 1st, 2015
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Venue: Crowne Plaza in St. Paul
Stream: http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
Schedule: https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule/

Hey guys, with the games list for SGDQ 2015 getting finalized last night, I figured I'd make a thread to see who all was interested in watching/going. I'll be there the full week, so if any of you plan on going let me know and I'd be happy to meet up with you at some point during the week, just let me know!

The schedule's not out yet, but the games list has been finalized. You can see them all here:

https://gamesdonequick.com/submission/all

or in a more organized, easier to read format here:

http://bombch.us/69Z

At the moment I believe there's at least 5-10 races that are going to occur, over 135 hours of total gameplay time, and an additional 8 hours of bonus gameplay if certain incentives are met.

Some notable races and runs that are going to be occurring:

-Super Mario 64 120 Star race between Cheese05 (WR holder), Puncayshun (#2 in 120 star) and Simply (#4 in 120 star)
-Super Mario Sunshine any% race (incentive for hoverless) between Bounceyboy (#6 in any%) and Kaffelon (WR holder)
-Donkey Kong Country All Stages race between Garrison, NewAgeRetroHippie, and Eazinn
-Sonic Advance (Amy) race between Combo Blaze, Talon2461, and Kirbymastah
-Mega Man X2 any% race between CalebHart42, bjw, trogdor, and tonic
-Yoshi's Island 100% by Trihex
-Tetris: The Grand Master Exhibition by KevinDDR
-Donkey Kong 64 (No Levels Early) by 2dos
-Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (Expert) by Geoff
-TASbot

From the TF2 community sigma will be running Lovely Planet (All Levels). If I happened to accidentally overlook another TF2 runner, let me know and I'll add you onto this post!

#7 Rays Server in TF2 General Discussion

Hi, thanks for doing this! I was going to do it awhile ago, but sadly never got around to it which resulted in its neglect.

Right now the server should be paid up until late March/early April I think, but I was going to cancel it when it ran out due to lack of use. If enough people are interested, I wouldn't mind continuing the subscription assuming it actually gets used again! I'd be open to adding new maps to the rotation as well, as I believe its a little lacking compared to Star's.

If it actually does get active again, I can maybe talk to a few people about helping me with the management/moderation of it; but I'd be happy to keep my server running even though I'm not too active in the TF2 scene myself as a ways to give back to all of the awesome people I've met through my TF2 days.

#21 AGDQ 2015 Schedule! in Off Topic

The DKR race should be pretty incredible. The category they're running (100%) has become much more optimized over the past few months, and the three people racing in it have PBs under 2 hours, which only 6 people have managed to do; I also believe Trihex is going to be on the couch for this run to make sure that its properly hyped up.

Also the Source block, the Punch-out runs, Boshy, Banjo Kazooie, and OoT 100% runs should all be good watches as well. :D

EDIT: Almost forgot AverageTrey's 120 shine run in SMS. He actually took back the WR from Stelzig in 120 shines yesterday, so he's the best that the SMS community could represent at such an event, and he's been playing really well lately. It's a super entertaining run as well, fluid movement in Sunshine looks so good.

Other than that there aren't any big changes. However, I'm really busy with family this evening and didn't have time to 100% check everything/make sure its all in the right spot. If I forgot/missed anything, please post in the thread so I can get it updated when I have a little more time. I just mainly wanted to push out an update with support for the new mode.

Thanks. :3

#119 What pub community did you come from? in Off Topic

A real life friend introduced me to the game and I quickly became a part of the pub community they were involved with, The Rabbit Hole. I eventually became an admin there and after a few years the community had a bit of a falling out and people stopped playing the game as much. The only thing left from it is a mumble, although I don't go there very often these days.

In fact, the people I played with on my last team this past year (fvl, The Burrito Man) are actually the same people I started playing competitive TF2 with back in 2011.

#5 is there any way to remove the ducks in Q/A Help

As withadancenumber has said here, there's a cvar to disable the ducks. However, it's server-side only.

The command in its entirety is here:

"tf_player_drop_bonus_ducks" = "-1"
game replicated
- -1 Default (Holiday-based)
0 - Force off
1 - Force on

As for whether or not there's a way to disable it on a per client basis, at the current time I don't believe so.

EDIT: Ninja'd by the legendary Kevin. Curse my inability to type quickly due to sluggish response times from finals studying. Oh well, have the answer twice!

Sorry for the weird version number, but it's not really much of an update. Just a bit of cleaning up of the menus.

#10 Christmas Songs in Off Topic
HueyLewisI always loved this when I was younger:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AZAo3Ia7DE

If you get the expanded version there are alternate takes of a few of the songs on here that I personally prefer to the original, yet many people know nothing about.

For instance, Greensleeves (Alternate Take 6):

(If the link doesn't work, the alternate take starts at 1:55. Sorry, was the only video I could find.)

#16 Hiding Non-TF2 Streams in Site Discussion

If there is enough concern that people streaming aren't playing TF2 but still appearing on the sidebar, maybe look into how SRL does it?

They recently updated their site to include a sort of "auto-detect" feature (which has been in place for awhile admittedly, but they've recently become much more transparent about it), to where if you're on their approved list of streamers, then when you go live, the site checks your stream title for certain keywords. Words such as any%, attempts, practice, runs, routing, rtas, learning, etc., are considered "speed-run friendly" and as a result allow the stream to be displayed on the front page. Conversely, if you have the words/tag [nosrl], "lets play", casual, etc., then you're automatically removed from the front page.

They also give users to ability to edit their profile to switch from auto-detect mode, to always on the front page, to always hidden. Something like this would allow people who want to stream privately for a few friends or something the option to take themselves off of the site.

If TFTV adopted something like this, maybe some key words that could automatically be detected would be things such as scrim, dm, match, hl, 6s, pugs, pubs, etc., and then perhaps a "[notftv]" tag, or something similar that people could add to hide themselves if they weren't playing TF2?

That being said, I know that would be a bit of work to set up and code, and I'm fine with things the way they are. Just offering some potential solutions if it gets to be that big of a problem. I do think that the TF2 community is quite a bit smaller though, and hiding streams would make things difficult for a smaller streamer to grow their audience and introduce them to a variety of games when they'll only be shown to a select group of people when playing a single game.

Here's a bit more info on the SRL auto-detect feature:

What do to get rid of this black box, btw I was using the Vaccinator

I didn't know this was an issue, and when I checked it was fine for me. If the hud_reloadscheme trick recommended didn't work, I put out an update on Github to fix the issue. Here's a direct link to the download:

https://github.com/raysfire/rayshud/archive/cee54053fad379cac24ccbb5d2760bb8620ec837.zip

But if you just re-install using the installer then that should be fine too.
