#5 TF2 Stuttering with new 144hz monitor in Hardware
SpaceCadetI wonder if that could be the issue. I have my fps capped at 350 in my config.

If it's stable then I am wrong. If it drops below like 150 it might be.

CapslockedIt could be that you have to write "-freq 144" into the launch options

-freq 144 and -refresh 144 do nothing. TF2 uses the refresh rate you set in windows. :)

#2 TF2 Stuttering with new 144hz monitor in Hardware

If your frames per second are unstable it can create visual stuttering.

I for example use a 120 Hz Monitor and my frames are capped at 264.

I took this information from chris config.

// The primary benefit of an FPS cap is to make the FPS more stable, other than
// that, it doesn't do a lot. A moderate, consistent framerate is much more
// desirable than a variable but sometimes high framerate. A common
// misconception is that if any more frames are generated than your monitor can
// display, they are useless. This is wrong -- frames are used for much more
// than mere display, and affect the way the game feels well past your
// refresh rate.
//
// This FPS cap should *always* be set to a value higher than `cl_cmdrate' in
// any case, or the discrepancy between clientside frame generation and frames
// to be sent to the server will no doubt cause you many a headache, especially
// when it comes down to hit registration. Other than that, I recommend
// for everyone to use the value `132' (2*66), as long as you can generally
// keep that value stable without regular drops.

Since I use a 120Hz instead of a 60Hz I just doubled the value he came up with.

#8 Fail at 120hz in Hardware
kwahlsterHow big is difference between 120 and 144? Is it worth upgrading?

Yes. I've purchased the monitor mainly for lightboost because I've used it at a friends house and it seemed to be an upgrade over normal 120hz "for my eyes". :)

#2 Fail at 120hz in Hardware

I don't really know what the exact english terms are since my windows is german here but try this:

Right click on desktop -> Resolutions
You should see your monitors with numbers on them
Right click on the asus monitor
Properties
Monitor (That's the name of the tab in german, might be Display for you?)
There you can set the Refresh rate

Let me know if it worked.

Quick Edit: -refresh 144 or -freq 144 are useless. TF2 picks up whatever refresh rate you set in windows.
Edit 2: I ordered the same monitor but mine hasn't arrived yet. If you're planning on using lightboost it only works with 120hz afaik.

#5 Virus? in Off Topic

If you have a spare thumb drive I recommend creating your own Hiren's Boot-CDStick.

You can get the ISO here.

This image basically lets you boot into a Mini XP (I really only use this, there is also some sort of linux to work with) where you have access to a buttload of tools. (For a full list see this.) It's basically a Medkit for your PC if we're talking TF2 terms. :P

To put the ISO on your USB-drive and actually make it boot I recommend Rufus.

Not sure if you want to go through this, but I personally like having one of those at hand. Hope it helps!

#5 LA NA scout mentor in Mentoring

So you need a mentor to teach you how to play 6v6 even though you don't want/can't play 6v6 anytime soon.

I suggest you check out some VoDs of high level matches and try to figure out stuff yourself or you download demos of high level players and watch those.

You can find demos on ESEA/ETF2L and vods of high level matches on the youtube channels of teamfortresstv and vanillatv.
