#35 Uncle Dane Valve Visit in TF2 General Discussion
-protolmao why is it always shitty pubbers/youtubers that get to meet with the valve team. no wonder this game is dying.

I want to get across that while we may play a different game mode (HL) and don't frequent TF.TV as much, we still want the game to succeed just as much as you do. We also didn't go there with the sole intention of grilling the tf team, and we weren't "invited" to talk to the TF team. Agro from KritzKast was meeting an artist friend there and she graciously gave us a tour. Dane being a youtuber wasn't even a factor, nobody there even mentioned that they watch his videos.

Yes, we are clearly just lying to make valve look good. That makes sense.

#13 Why The Solemn Vow Must Remain Banned in TF2 General Discussion

people are way too worried about this

it's unbanned in HL (yet nobody uses it because the ubersaw) and spies also have access to health pool info, and it makes very little difference to the game because most of that information is already implicit with > silver level gamesense

#6 (Feedback Wanted) Video Recording Preferences in Videos
gatsanplease make it compatible with OSX i'm sick of everyone being able to make frag vids so easily and i have to suffer through the most dumb shit

Sorry, I don't have the resources to develop or test code on OSX :/ Your best hope is boot camp it seems.

#4 (Feedback Wanted) Video Recording Preferences in Videos
Shears#3 would be useful as long as the image quality is retained. I've always found startmovie recording far too tedious, so I'm happy there's someone with some ideas to make it faster.

If you were going through FFMPEG, all the options for it would be available. So you could output lossless h.264, for example. IIRC FFMPEG supports encoding to a few other lossless formats as well.

ShearsMore options tend to be better so you can cover people's personal preferences, but if you include options that are slower (e.g. PNG output), you should note how they will impact rendering speed/quality.

PNG compression results in the rendering being slowed by about 30-40%. It can be fully multithreaded though, so it'll have significantly less impact on people with 8 core CPUs or whatever compared to me (4-core i5).

#1 (Feedback Wanted) Video Recording Preferences in Videos

Hey guys,

I'm making a plugin targeted at (frag) video editors, one that replaces SrcDemo2 (while being 4-5x faster). That functionality is complete, now I'm looking for input from some people who have more experience making videos than I (although even if you are still a novice with "startmovie" recording, please provide feedback anyway).

Specifically:

  1. Is there a reason you don't use motion blur in your videos? Is it simply because it takes too long to render, or is there some other reason? (When I'm talking about motion blur, I'm talking about more subtle uses, like this example)
  2. How much do people really want PNG output? When creating videos, some people have expressed to me they'd like to be able to output PNGs instead of TGAs. However, (at least from the CPU side of things) TGAs are *significantly* faster to create than PNGs (because of the compression, PNGs make things 30-40% slower overall). I also find that enabling file and folder compression on a folder can be just as if not more effective than storing frames as PNG.
  3. Would people be interested in an FFMPEG-based output mode? This would let you output mp4/mkv/avi etc, straight from the engine. You'd still be able to output lossless h.264 or something else as well. Is that more preferable to outputting stills + a wav file?

Thanks!

#34 CastingEssentials Spectator Plugin in Projects

New release: r12 final

  • New camera smoothing algorithm. I think this is probably as good as it's going to get.
  • Added ce_killfeed_continuous_update which fixes the localplayer module causing the highlighted items in the killfeed to become "stuck" on whoever you were speccing when the killfeed event was created.

You should remove old versions of CastingEssentials from /tf/addons and extract new versions to /tf/custom/CastingEssentials

It's certainly possible, it's just a question of how easy to implement it is. I'll look into it.

BeaterHave the stability issues with the fov_override been adressed? Particularly, the currentlyplayer command causes the game to crash with the version of statusspec that I currently use.

I haven't had any crashes due to fov override, and I always have it set to 95 in the config I test with.

Not sure exactly what you mean by the currentlyplayer command. If you're talking about the localplayer feature (highlights kills/actions by the currently spectated player in the killfeed), that also works fine in this plugin.

RacsoHey noob question here. It seems amazing but how exactly do I get this to work?

Not a noob question, it's my fault the wiki isn't done. You need to extract one of the binary downloads from https://github.com/PazerOP/CastingEssentials/releases/latest to your /tf/custom folder. Then just launch your game with -insecure on the command line, and the plugin should be good to go. You'll see "Hello from CastingEssentials <version>" in your console. Partial info on features is available on the wiki, and all related cvars begin with ce_.

RhettroWhen can we expect banners to work?

Don't know, when do they need to be working by?

#24 CastingEssentials Spectator Plugin in Projects

New release: r11 final

  • Fixed the world getting killstreaks.
  • Significant overall performance improvements.
  • Fixed outline colors being darker than they should be.
  • Fixed people turning into floating viewmodels during camera smooths.

You should remove old versions of CastingEssentials from /tf/addons and extract new versions to /tf/custom/CastingEssentials

#21 CastingEssentials Spectator Plugin in Projects

EDIT: ok tf.tv doesn't like emojis

New release: r10 final

  • Roughly doubled performance of outlines throughout the game. With any luck, this will be implemented in the base game soon.
  • Enabled ce_projectileoutlines_mode (default 1) which allows you to have projectile outlines always, only when occluded, or only when visible.

You should remove old versions of CastingEssentials from /tf/addons and extract new versions to /tf/custom/CastingEssentials

Also, I'll include a .zip with binaries from now on for people who don't want to download 7-zip.

samifaceDo we have your permission to use this for Rewind? We're building our own overlay but would love to have this!

Yet another thing I need to add to the wiki, eventually. You don't need my permission, you can do whatever you like with the plugin.

RhettroOne thing that would always be nice if it's somehow possible would be to incorporate banners into the hud.

This is a planned feature.
