do you have access to the caster's recordings when making these, or are they edited out of the vod?

#16 Video playback program that can play 240 fps vids? in Videos

ok, so the bottleneck with raw videos of this size is disk speed (maybe less so with a new superfast PCI-E SSD or whatever they're coming out with now), whether recording the TGAs from tf2 or playing back the uncompressed dubbed video. the media player buffers the file from disk into ram so it can be rendered, but the disk speed is usually too slow, hence the jerky video and choppy audio as it tries to sync them.

you can reduce that by putting it on an SSD. my pro evo 850 can ALMOST cope with uncompressed AVIs but disk space is really short there for anything over a minute or so. MPC-HC and probably some others will store the rendered result in ram meaning (tested up to about 10 seconds) if you sit through the first few seconds it will be butter smooth when you move the cursor thing back and play that part again. this is useful for checking whether stuff recorded well.

if you need smooth realtime previews of your stuff you might be best just encoding the uncompressed files at as high a bitrate as your disk can handle, at the expense of some quality since you're compressing the same video twice basically

#20 New Portal TAS in Other Games

if you understand the saveload portal glitch much of this makes more sense. basically the glitch allows you to, when behind the plane of one portal, shoot portals relative to the OTHER portal. so if you're 1 unit directly behind the portal you saveloaded on, and you shoot a portal, that portal comes out one unit behind the other portal with the same direction applied

#6 Constant projectile delay possible? in Q/A Help
TrisTGemmellnessthere's probably a way you can add artificial latency to your game, e.g. add 50ms if you're at 50 ping, set it to 0ms if you're at 100 ping.

though that sounds awful and tbh i'd rather play with the lowest ping possible and use high ping as an excuse if you fuck up

edit: get the windows binaries for dummynet, then use the following commands (admin command prompt)
ipfw pipe 1 config delay 100ms
ipfw add 100 pipe 1 ip from any to server-ip
ipfw add 101 pipe 1 ip from server-ip to any

I think you'll need to change the pipe number (1) and the rule label (100, 101) for each server to prevent them overwriting each other. you also need to change the server-ip and the delay (to half the difference between your ping and the goal ping).

Thanks! Imma take a good look at that!
You really know your stuff :D

i rly know how to copy paste the first result from google and figure out roughly what commands mean without reading documentation

#382 Comanglia's Config / FPS Guide in Customization
SnookHow do I turn on outlines for the cart and for players for that initial 10 seconds of respawn? Advanced options I have the cart outline checked as well as glow_outline_effect_enable 1 in the actual config. Does dx level matter?

need at least dxlevel 90, and there's also an advanced option to enable the outlines just after respawning, make sure that's ticked
