Abd to the memeshirt guy: $5 for tshirtd when gildan and hanes have them for less than $3 in bulk is terrible

#69 A rant about Competitive tf2 financial crisis/art in TF2 General Discussion

"So I don't see what there is for you to actually criticise."

some weird sense of entitlement that just because they do volunteer work for a game people like they should be exempt from any criticism [The community has been...will be enough] or the entirety of the "woe is me my developer doesn't like my game" self pity that it promotes. It just feels like its trying to justify the fact that tf2 didn't/hasn't take/n off is because Valve won't support it, and it's totally valve's fault that people are stepping down as casters or community promoters.

Feels very defeatist imo. TF2 stayed alive 8 years w/o dev support, but the minute valve promises MM everyone starts assuming that valve is going to do all these great things for 6s. Being realistic, they won't. They've gone from actively ignoring you guys to passively working with. You likely won't see game breaking updates before LANs anymore, but you're not going to see CS levels of support either. If everyone decides right now that they're not going to bother doing anything anymore then the game (6s) will die, because Valve has no interest in or benefit to gain from supporting the competitive community as it is now. Saying the game is in valve's hands is wrong because its just as much your own grave as it always was.

i had more to write but walked away and forgot sorry

Kanecoeeenot to knock you but you're offering a very small subset of a small community a very specific product. Setting up a "tf.tv" patreon would likely be much more successful just because we could bill it as paying for the forums, the servers, the casts, and the streams. I'd pay $5 a month for a gold nerdstar tbh. There was such a thing before, it was called tftv plus and in case you haven't noticed it didn't really work out. Also tf.tv forums, servers, etc pays itself. Afaik enigma makes (or at least used to make) a living off tftv.

Now if you're talking about casts and streams thats another thing but then again I could say the same thing about that being a very small subset or a very specific product.

tbh i never knew about that. Still tho, not like you can't plaster a patreon link all over the streams that now appear on the main menu and hope for the best.

GentlemanJoneee"tf2 lans cost too much money to cast"

either stop having lans or stop casting them then?
OK, I'm out

please don't take what I'm saying as me saying to stop do LANs cause that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that continuing to do the work the casters do for this community and expecting anything near a worthy repayment is simply not going to happen in the next 12 months. If TF2 takes off, they'll be livin the dreammmmm but right now complaining about the lack of interest in casting is pointless because there's a lack of interest in the game. Until tf2 is dead someone is going to be doing the streaming and backend casting work, even if its just Avast or someone trying to cast an STV from his bedroom. Nothing we can do is going to improve the LAN experience. We need more people in the community to attract sponsors -> money -> interest in a feedback loop that ends with us having people watching the casts and our casters getting the actual money they deserve.

KanecoMaxi-Big youtubers have Patreons, streams have donations, I never understood why there was nothing like this in place. You said it yourself. Big youtubers.

Patreon is very nice and all but it doesn't work unless it's at a huge scale. I've had a patreon for comp.tf yt channel (which has 4k subs) for like 6 months and I've only had 1 single patron in that timeframe. Pretty much the only tf2 patreon that worked/was sucessful was SIN's and he already has one of the biggest tf2 youtube channels.

not to knock you but you're offering a very small subset of a small community a very specific product. Setting up a "tf.tv" patreon would likely be much more successful just because we could bill it as paying for the forums, the servers, the casts, and the streams. "acting as if they're entitled to that entertainment"

and the creation of this shitpost is acting like content creators are entitled to validation

"mock the idea of supporting those giving content"

I'm not. I'm mocking the idea of supporting those giving content and then expecting a reward or any sort of external validation. at BEST yre gonna get a nice thread made about u and 600 nerds watch you for a weekend. Everyone who plays tf2 knows that's the entirety of what a well made stream can get. The extra effort put in to make it look nice isn't done for money or some sort of reward, its done because its fun and makes everyone happy. All I'm saying is that if they (content creators) think its actually not worth making the content for this community anymore because of lack of interest, no amount of forum posting or video editing is going to make people watch TF2. They're going to have to either keep doing it because they like it or stop it. Its a shitty reality but w/e the game has to die eventually.

"chat on the forums"

literally the only one of those i do but i get what you're saying

Then leave you freeloading worthless child
Dont watch any of the ESEA casts, i-series games, play in any leagues or come to this site anymore
We have all these things available to us in TF2 because of extremely dedicated individuals and you should be thankful
To see that you think you're even important enough to tell these people to stop doing all this work for the community is actually upsetting

damn dude for someone who's smart at video games ure not very good at reading :)

its fine if u want to attack ppl or w/e cause u cant handle the game being "dead" but that's not a good attitude to have when you need way less people donating thousands to make casts and way more people actually watching streams and shit. I didn't tell them to stop doing what they're doing, I told them to stop whining about the lack of pay off. If you're playing/streaming tf2 for the money or recognition you're wasting your time and complaining that people aren't grateful enough or appreciative that you're making content that they don't care about makes you look like a big baby and doesn't actually fix any problems.

idk how u retards managed to confuse "lans are a waste of money but everyone already knew that" with "lans shouldn't happen and no one should do anything for them". if making the backend shit makes u happy u should do it but u shouldn't be fishing for recognition because you spent a lot of money and time trying to make people excited for a game no one is actually excited about.

#33 Do we need badlands_pro? in TF2 General Discussion
holoferneswouldn't hurt to simplify the shape of spire
i think last being quick to cap is good, makes it more favorable to play aggressively

If a prolands gets made, spire should be a series of ramps that are very clearly defined. rn some of the curvature eats splash awkwardly
make under midbridge brighter cause players w/ shit graphics disappear in the corners
make all the railings consistent, u can stand on both sides of some but not all
flatten these walls so the railings don't eat rockets
same with these ceilings
smooth out the parts under pride and balcony so you don't occasionally surf on them and lose all movement
also on mid. avoid these weird curved rocks where u cant tell if you can walk or surf them 100% of the time
maybe make the hoodoos flat so they splash easier?
make the blinder thing between drop down and gray bridge either opaque or shootable, rn you have huge gaps u can see through but not shoot
close the crack on spire
make the grain dispensers of mid able to be stood on
remove the valley exit to shithouse's weird rocks that u can sort of slide down
remove literally all rocks that can be slid on because they're all dumb

I didnt realize you just posted about the same thing. Sorry man
Starting a thread with the title that amounts to "Reddit had a repost about this topic" doesn't really get people to care about the actual topic of the post. Especially since this includes original thought instead of just the standard doomsaying.

this is kind of a shitpost tho

"tf2 lans cost too much money to cast"

either stop having lans or stop casting them then? There's really not a problem here other than people complaining that they're having to pay out of pocket to fund a hobby no one is interested in. Complaining about the lack of money is pointless because you're not going to whine your way into making the people bankrolling the LANs continue to fund them. Valve very clearly doesn't care, and no one cares about TF2 because its boring to watch. If you want to have professional quality streams at LANs u need to pay for them. Trying to game sympathy dollars by mentioning how someone always has to foot the bill for Insomnia isn't going to make donations go up, its just going to make tf2 look even less professional. If people actually cared about tf2 the game would be popular, but its not. It just has people who care too much about a cartoon shooter propping it up financially in an unsustainable way hoping that this time it'll finally take off and people will get interested.

this thread gets made very regularly and literally nothing interesting was said in it
