If there's anything I can do before the summers over I'm happy to help review demos or something for teams looking to play. Hopefully I'll get around to coaching newbie mixes at some point again.

you're going to (you have been for 6 months now) hear the wrath of the pug lords until you do one of these things

• allow admins to manually end drafts & give admin to people who actually play pugs frequently
  
• allow captains to end drafts if both of them agree to
  
• allow admins (or both captains) to forcibly add or remove players

the fact that admins can add pugs once they're started but not before they've started makes absolutely no sense and this attitude towards making changes to the site doesn't help

i get that tsc likes to jerk off over his magnificent ELO system and system of automatically banning/restricting people but I thought you would at least be smart enough to realize the root cause of this problem and address it given how much time you've had
if faceit came out with a pug system similar to pugchamp's (in allowing more than 12 people to add and have captains choose players) i wouldn't be surprised if the site died nearly instantly

i agree that there should be more teams signing up for it but you're just trying to make excuses not to sign up
also can we get rid of this notion of things being 'good for tf2' please
its true that with this and the razer cups there was a chance that tons of teams could sign up and it could take off and make it big
but you should play tf2 for the sake of playing tf2 not in an attempt to validate it as a legitimate esport
clearly the problem is that there's either not enough awareness/advertising beforehand or the players would legitimately rather just play pugchamp instead of taking 5 minutes out of their day to register and sign up for faceit

if you want more people to sign up for these tourneys you should definitely advertise them more
