#253 TF2Stadium.com in Projects
lucrativenot to rain on anyone's parade, but I might have missed this. what exactly is the point of the site? as far as I can tell its identical to tf2c in terms of how it operates and the players are just as pubby, so i'm just confused if i'm missing some unique features or plans for the website?DanceNumberthats the thing, the site is the exact same thing just with a different admin team. Some people take issue with the admins at tf2c (from what I can tell the vocal minority). The rest will just play wherever the players are and don't care what site they are on.

To clarify - as well as having a different administration/moderation team, we're also fully open-source and have features and settings (such as, notably, Twitch integration) which at present are unique to TF2Stadium. The different admin team is a significant difference for sure, some might argue the most significant, but it's certainly not the only one.

You can find out more about the site from the About page.

Now that the site has been live for a while - remember to report any bugs you find in the relevant discussion thread of our public Steam group. Some of the dev team have been working through the night and first thing in the morning trying to fix issues as they're brought to attention to keep launch as smooth as possible (shoutout to vibhavp for waking up and eating a few Mumble bugs for breakfast).

We also have a thread for feature suggestions and discussion if there's anything you feel could be improved or added, as well as a thread for general feedback that doesn't fall into either of these categories.

Beta launch day was great and I don't regret staying awake until 6am for it at al-zzzz.

#1 GamelyGiving GameBlast16 Charity Stream in Off Topic

Just a heads up that if anyone has some time to kill GamelyGiving are currently putting on a charity stream for the benefit of SpecialEffect and it's currently going out to a grand total of 4 viewers at the time of writing. Right now my cousin Tim is doing a segment which is the only reason I even know about the stream, he's currently streaming terrible flash games with a slightly dodgy microphone, soon after this he's gonna be playing Alien Hominid (lol) and then talking about some of his thoughts on game development.

After his segment there's a lot more lined up too including some Rocket League, Far Cry Primal and so on from other participants. SpecialEffect do some really great things and I know the GamelyGiving team are working hard on this (Tim's dodgy mic aside; quality's fine but it's only in the left channel for whatever reason) so head over and check them out if you get a chance!

Stream here

EDIT: Note, I should point out that Tim's left-channel-only mic right now is not representative of the production quality of the rest of the stream by any means, this is an issue with his setup that he spent a good 15-20 minutes trying to fix at the start of his segment which is persisting for reasons unknown and eventually he had to just give up and push on. If the audio problems bug you too much they will definitely not be present in later segments with other people.

#11 XCOM 2 in Other Games

Initial impressions playing on Commander:

Difficulty seems about right overall, I personally got royally RNG-fucked on my 2nd mission but that was just an insane run of bad luck. With that said, one of the things I got rekt by was the full-random enemy spawning; a Sectoid + Trooper pod spawned on a roof that I tried to take while still in concealment. A pod that I could only reveal, basically, by putting myself in a position where I'm stood right next to them, unless I'd decided to take the other roof (which granted would've been a better decision all-around but that brings me onto my next point)

It's DEFINITELY more punishing than EU/EW. You can't just Overwatch to victory like you used to be able to because of the timers, but equally if you play too aggressively and slip up you're almost certainly going to get destroyed for it. It bashes you over the head very early on with the realisation that mistakes WILL get you killed and risks ARE real risks, unlike EU/EW where sometimes it felt like any risk short of standing someone out in the open wasn't actually too worrying.

Absolutely brilliant game so far, but as you may have seen, very poorly optimized right now. Frighteningly so actually, TotalBiscuit was reporting mediocre-bordering-on-poor performance on his $4000-whatever gaming PC. Hopefully the issues are fixed soon in patches because it actually is inexcusable really. Turning down/off AA and AO seem to be significant in mitigating this for now though, noticeable FPS boosts and reduction in stuttery laggy weirdness from that on a lot of peoples' systems apparently.
