i61 for being the first time I met the best friends I've ever had
copenhagen games 2019 was amazingly convenient. The entire event is so enjoyable with the entire TF2 crowd sitting together (not an option at insomnia due to BYOC being a free-for-all and seperated from the viewing area)
Swelan was also great, but mostly for the social aspect. We had like 40 TF2 people sitting in a tiny kitchen at the hostel all night having fun. Only real issues were getting noise complaints (understandably) and at some point a group of people stole food from the regular residents (The owner of the hostel was really upset at some people and had to lock the kitchen for the final night)

This is basically a list of things most fragvids in this thread have in common. (ONLY applies to simple fragvids. I personally differentiate between simple fragvids and actual montages like many community videos which can have way more editing, for example PREM by CUBE).

- No minecraft youtuber intro needed. We can see who you are by your forum and youtube name. Most intros are simple fade-ins. You can risk it and get a bit fancier with a short smooth intro though. We're here to watch people get sick frags so our attention span is limited and the first couple of seconds usually decide whether or not we watch more than 30 seconds of the video. Also the TF2 community dislikes lime green for anything that isn't crosshairs. I believe it's a subconscious thing due to pubbers and tf2center mains with lime hats. I wouldn't recommend putting your name in that colour
- No need to add some sort of shadow around the edge of your screen. Just obscures the view, can't read the killfeed at times. Aside from recording demos in maxquality settings TF2 doesn't need much to look good. Minor color correction should be enough if you still think you need to mess with colors. Controversial subject though because many people don't even want maxsettings and prefer the dx8 comanglia config look
About the filters, I do like some 2008 nostalgia at times, just not for TF2 fragvids
- 60 fps, but you did that so that's fine. Others still need to learn though.
- Clip quality. Here we go again. Basically just set a standard for yourself on what a minimum "coolness" of a clip should be. I usually go through all my bookmarks and describe them in a short sentence in notepad, then I decide if each clip is worth putting in a video. Usually I drop around 30% of my bookmarks before i start recording, and I do the same process again after recording for some extra quality control.
The reason I underlined "for yourself" is because your standard doesn't have to be the community's standard. You can set the bar lower, you can set the bar higher. I personally set it slightly lower because I know my gameplay can barely compete with many people on this forum, but I still make sure the clips are enjoyable in one way or another. Think about what your standard should be because you do actually have a couple of decent clips, but then there's a sniper vs medic 1v1
- Music. Completely subjective ofcourse. You can use whatever music you want. Just know that an edgy overused song combined with dubstep will get you some downvotes regardless of how good your fragvid would've been. I believe this is the main source of your downvotes. No need to give a fuck about this though. shadowburn's videos were still liked and he was the edgiest of all edges when it came to music choices

The thing Team Fortress 2's competitive scene needs to gather the attention of sponsors and Valve is doing it with a new promotion that makes Team Fortress 2 look much more like a competitive platform than an online-only MOBA. Starting today, Team Fortress 2 players can get in free matches on Twitch and in the next two weeks, Team Fortress 2's two premier Twitch streamers will be getting in free matches with the League Champions Korea roster. This promotion isn't limited to only the two players from the two top streamers right now however. As if that wasn't exciting enough, there's also another promotion in store for all League Champions Korea players, including several players who have been part of the Korean scene for awhile and will be returning! The League Champions Korea Players Team Dignitas And IEM New York team Evil Geniuses will be partaking in an even bigger promotion this January: they will get a free match against each other

incorrect actually. It definitely helps, but it's not going to ban someone instantly because 1 person reported them. Not seeing an instant result doesn't mean nothing's happening.
Whether or not that deters cheaters or prevents alts from being made is a different story though

Advice to a newcomer to LAN?

Some people tend to starve themselves at LAN. Make sure to eat decent food at least once per day. An easy way to make sure is to eat breakfast somewhere in the morning before going to venue. The NEC has some places inside the building where you can buy non-junk food, but for any LAN it always helps googling nearby shops and restaurants to your hotel.
Also drink water!!!
Try talking to people. Asking their aliases is a good opener if you don't know where to start. If they're from the BYOC area, ask them how their games have been going. It's relatively easy to find people you've interacted with online before. Especially if you spend a lot of time on tftv/twitch
Insomnia splits the viewing area from the BYOC. You can have someone from the BYOC give you a guest pass, but there's not a whole lot to do there usually. BYOC people stay in the area throughout most of the day until the later evening when they go to the viewing area to watch upper/lower bracket finals and drink.
In general there's not much to do in the BYOC if you don't have a PC of your own. Plenty of people to interact with in the viewing area, even when the BYOC people aren't there.
(In this regard Copenhagen Games is an upgrade. BYOC isn't closed off from viewers so it feels more like 1 big community sitting in a single area)
If you know some people on your friends list are going, definitely send them a PM beforehand so you can attempt to find them at the venue (setting a meeting place/hour beforehand rarely works out at LAN, but at least you'll know to look out for eachother)
You'll be watching a lot less TF2 at LAN than you would've at home

*In the BYOC it's a free-for-all of all games. Some TF2 circlejerks will attempt to sit close to eachother, but you'll have to ask around to find many teams and individual player spots. It's a big area with hundreds of people, most of them non-TF2 players
*Main reason to visit the BYOC as spectator is to watch player POVs
*Just ask around if you want a BYOC guest pass. Any BYOC person can give out 1 guest pass to 1 spectator (or was it 2? don't remember). They're partially responsible for the shit you do so don't be an ass
*The production/viewing area is at the edge of the BYOC. Sort of integrated in the BYOC area. The viewrs sit outside the BYOC fences with screens set up next to the production for watching the casts. We usually are next to one of the stages (local LoL and cs:go mostly, not the mainstage) which will look very empty yet have many more chairs than our ghetto "stage". We usually steal chairs from there.
Copenhagen Games
*Here the BYOC for TF2 is all condensed into 1 area. Still need to ask around a bit to find people unless you'd recognize them by looks, but way easier than insomnia
*Viewing area in 2018 was fine, in 2019 there were issues with fire safety (viewing area'd block 1 fire exit and a big entrance for firetrucks) so we didn't have a viewing area for the first day after we pestered the Copenhagen Games staff for a full day. Should hopefully be better coordinated in 2020 (this isn't really advice in any way. But might as well throw the info out there)
*NO CASH AT THE EVENT. bring a card. 2 out of the 3 food trucks outside the event accepted cash. burger food truck and all the bars/food inside was card only
