#56 Ban the crossbow in TF2 General Discussion

All of this really makes my head hurt. You're deliberately exaggerating so many situations.

chiefdogIt makes the game slower
-no longer in or out, now it's: "I'm in, nevermind I got denied, let me wait 2 sec so I can be arrowed and then I can go back in"
-Pushing of damage can no longer be done.

- How is getting healed quicker make it so the game is slower? You can easily argue it makes it quicker.
- So many arrows to get people back to good health are people that stand still for an easy arrow, or perhaps run in a straight line. Standing still or running in a straight line in an FPS game is the worst thing you can do, but you only see players do this for crossbows in very safe situations. If the damaged player was in a safe position, then a smart team wouldn't try to push off the damage.

chiefdogRoamer class even more useless
-All the damage you do is irrelevant as you have to actually kill the guy, otherwise he will be arrowed up again.

-The nerf on the roamer results in teams as Lowpander who play 5v6 and it makes no difference as long as they only take their roamer out of the equation. This also promotes the door watcher roamer gameplay as when u play aggro on damage you only bait your team because that person who you just bombed will be arrowed up to full health in no time.

- You could apply similar logic in just about any FPS game (ie: some people say "who cares about damage, it's all about the kills"). Honestly, a lot of this is easily applied to the last point i made in the previous quote.

- I cannot help but think you're a roamer main yourself, because you're bringing up a ton of exaggerated situations that honestly don't happen nearly as often as you claim (this being one of them). Once again, this exact same point can be easily applied to the last point I made in the previous quote.

chiefdogIts like the direct hit
-Seriously, it does 1 000 000 damage at any range and it takes no skill to aim.

- It takes no skill to aim? lol??? It's a projectile with a relatively small hitbox, no splash damage, not hitscan, extremely poor damage up close (while 75 at max range is fairly respectable), and shoots once per second. Yeah, you're right. It's totally like the direct hit. Fuck those no-skill-to-aim brainless direct hit soldiers that are killing this game.

chiefdogI had other reasons which I forgot for the moment but the underlying factor is that it is OP. Meaning it is ower powered and there is NO REASON to use any other primary medic weapon.

Please nerf this weapon, make it heal for less hp at close ranges, make it shoot slower or whatever, just fix it!

There are countless weapons in this game that are strictly better than their counterparts. Valve, for the most part, doesn't give a fuck about the balance of these weapons inside of competitive play. The community has done their best for a long time to deal with that.

I can't fathom why you'd want to take away a versatile weapon that, in my opinion, makes the game a lot more interesting (and certainly raises the medic skill ceiling). You can easily make an argument that running needles is better protect yourself, because that's a hell of a lot more reliable than trying to hit 4 close range arrows on a 125 hp scout. It's just the versatility of the crossbow that outweighs it. Needles are better on some parts of some maps (A decent chunk of Granary comes to mind), but people never feel like getting stuck with needles, I suppose.

While discussion is always good for things like this, I feel like the crossbow shouldn't even be anywhere close to the top for banning.

#29 Free Game :) in Off Topic

TFTV is messed up for flyingbuddy at the moment, so flyingbuddy wanted me to post. I asked for Heavy Bullets and I got it :)

Thanks!

Special shoutout to Alfa. I'm 99% sure he still doesn't know that I posted that, but a handful of people already knew anyway. :3

#19 Free Game :) in Off Topic

GXL 2015

I get a king suite that is separated into two rooms. Some of the TFTV production crew stays with me, as well as my roommate, and Alfa. The production crew wasn't going to arrive until late Friday / early Saturday or something like that, so the first night was my roommate, Alfa, and me. Alright, cool.

After I leave the LAN for the night, I hit up Marmaduke's room. There's Marmaduke, Rick, Rando, 4-5 other people that I can't remember off the top of my head (I know some of them were Rick's crew that he brings to some LANs), and a very wasted Alfa. I guess some of them went to some restaurant before this and got some Italian food or something, too. Anyway, we chill in the room for a while. Sometime later, Alfa said he was gonna go back to the room to get some sleep. When I leave, I notice Alfa is in the lounge area, nearly passed out at a table. I wake him up and we go to the room.

So, king suite = king bed. Alfa and I share the king bed. We chat for a little bit, but I said that I really wanted to try to get some sleep. Now, keep in mind that over the past few months, I've had various health problems with restlessness, increased heart rate for no reason, dizziness, panic attacks, waking up in the middle of the night in a panic, etc. Just a whole bunch of annoying shit (which I think ended up being bad anxiety). So, I really wanted to try to fall asleep quickly before some of those things possibly happened. I could hear him texting a bit, which didn't really bother me or anything.

Ten minutes pass by, and I hear him go "blurrruhghgh."

I immediately think to myself "you know, that kinda sounded like he almost threw up or something, but I'm gonna just go back to sleep with full confidence that he's not throwing up and I won't have to deal with this shit right now :DDDdd"

Ten seconds later, I hear him go "BLURRRUGHGHGUGHH." He UNQUESTIONABLY threw up. The room was pitch black, but it didn't matter. Remember the part of the third Matrix movie where Neo is blind but he can still use his hearing to perfectly visualize everything? Yeah, I could just visualize the chunks flying out of his mouth. I could feel the vibrations of the vomit splashing against the bed. It was fucked. It was all fucked.

I reluctantly got out of bed and turned on the lights. I see Alfa, throwing up all over the fucking bed. That Italian restaurant he hit up earlier? All over the bed. Just this incredible cocktail of tomato sauce and alcohol, giving wonderful color to the entire bed where all the sheets, comforters, and pillows that were formerly white. He looks up at me and says "ugh, help." I laugh and go "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?" I look around, and the only thing I see are these trash cans that are like 3 inches by 10 inches (seriously). I give him this entirely unhelpful trash can, to which I don't even think he bothered to throw up in.

Now, I cannot stress enough how much of an endless stream this boy had vomited. It lasted for what seemed like five or ten minutes. I made him get up and finish his Pollock splatter painting in the sink. When he seemed to reach the end of his vomit spree, he went into the bathroom. While he was cooling off in there, I called the front desk and explained that my retard friend threw up all over the sheets and needed some new ones. At this point, I notice it's like 3 AM and who the fuck knows when I'll be able to fall asleep. My roommate is still in the other part of the suite, completely passed out and oblivious to everything that just happened.

Some chick comes up to the room with trash bags, ready to bag up these vomit-infested sheets. I already feel awful for the girl already, so I tell her not to worry about it and I'll bag up the sheets and give them to her. I also give her like a $10 tip, which I think I had Alfa reimburse me for because fuck this shit. She came back up with new sheets and I put them on the bed, then asked Alfa if he wanted some water or something. He said sure, so I went down to the lobby to grab him some water. I could still hear Alfa periodically throw up while he was in the bathroom, but it seemed like it wasn't as frequent as when it had started. I knock on the bathroom to give him some water, and he tells me to come in. I open the door to hand him the water. Alfa is on the toilet, and he's shirtless with his pants down to his ankles, with fresh vomit ALL OVER HIS LEGS AND PANTS. Oh my fucking god.

After everything has calmed down, I try to go to sleep. Alfa is still recovering in the bathroom. I try to sleep for almost an hour, but I am extremely restless and my heart rate is racing. I feel extremely uneasy and my anxiety tells me I need to go to the emergency room. Again, this is part of the full year where I had various health problems and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I wake up my roommate and tell him to bring me to the ER. We go to the ER, doctor tells me I'm fine and gives me some stuff to calm down, and I'm out of there in about an hour.

We get back to the hotel, and I was so worried about my health that I didn't mention a single thing to my roommate. In fact, I don't even know if he was aware that Alfa was in the room. My roommate was headed towards the bathroom, and all I wanted to do was go back to bed, so I didn't think anything of it. My roommate opens the door, jumps back, and yells "WHAT THE FUCK???"

My poor roommate just wanted to take a shit after a rough morning of taking me to the ER, but he is unexpectedly greeted by a completely passed out Alfa on the toilet, completely naked from head to toe, head resting on his knees, legs still covered in dry vomit, basically surrounded in a vile pool of what used to be food and alcohol. Even trying to brush your teeth was a chore, because the sink was doused in various noodles birthed by Alfa hours earlier.

The hotel was not gonna clean up the mess and neither was I. Alfa had to stay back at the room for an hour and clean everything (which I will say he did a good job). Still, what a fucking night.

#244 Quake Champions Closed Beta in Other Games
CitricI haven't tried out the most recent patch. Are the increased hitbox sizes for the small heroes an improvement?

It's a little hard to tell for sure because the netcode is kinda meh. Some people are still complaining about Galena's hurtbox. To me, she seems extremely hard to rail right now.

#233 Quake Champions Closed Beta in Other Games
sendhow are class variations bad? its quake

Would it be better if id renamed the game to something else? I don't get it.

I don't think the classes are a bad thing. They are all a little different but still have a lot of the same core gameplay (ie: it's not like there's a healer role). I don't think it's all amazing by any means, but I think it's interesting.

sendevery quake had 1 armor tier besides cpm? you obviously don't know what you're talking about

I think he meant the whole system where it's like this:

Green 50% prot 100 max
Yellow 66% prot 150 max
Red 75% prot 200 max

So, for example, having 140 red armor is better than having 150 yellow armor.

Still, that's not the same thing, as I knew what you originally referenced is how there's only one kind of armor at all.

sendas is it takes about a week of effort to unlock everyone (i was level 10 and had 6 unlocked last beta) - all characters should be unlocked by default

You do know that the game is going to be free to play from the start, right? And the primary currency you get for playing games and completing challenges only unlocks a champion for 24 hours. Unless you use real money (or get an extremely rare drop of the real money currency in the highest tier loot crate), you can't unlock them permanently. You can buy all of them bundled together for, paraphrased, "a normal price of a game." (so like $50? I have no idea)

sendreflex is shit

lol

I mean, honestly, I think your attitude towards this entire topic is basically summed up from this:

http://www.poorlydrawnlines.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/mad.png

It's entirely fine to not like a game for what it is, but if you want a "real quake game," let me remind you that Quake 4 definitely didn't do well. Many people despised that game quickly, pros included.

If you're going to tell me Quake 4 (or any other Quake game) isn't a real Quake game, then fuck, I don't know dude. Go play Q3OSP online somewhere with <10 people. :|

#12 Pop it or hope it in Q/A Help

If there's a very real chance that the next shot the enemy will potentially hit on you will make you drop, then just pop it. Popping is better in every way in comparison to being dead, because you'll 1) be alive 2) be ahead on uber by about 25-40% instead of watching the death cam, and 3) you'll be able to keep your teammates healthy in the meantime. If you didn't pop and you lived, yeah that's cool, but you put your team in a horrible position if you drop. If you use, you'll probably lose a control point and then you should sustain at a stalemate.

If you're down by one round and you really need to pull out a solid push with not much time left on the clock, then yeah, I'd do everything you can to hold on to the uber.

A decent amount of the time, you can get around even being in this situation by making sure your team is aware of their surroundings. They need to check for hiding enemies, as well as turning around and helping you out when you're being pressured. Obviously, it doesn't totally rest on your team's shoulders, as you need to make sure your positioning is solid as well.
