#2314 PC Build Thread in Hardware

That means he'll definitely need a GPU. So Ryzen is an option. Does he want/need ECC?

I don't know what his definition of normal sized is though.

Good.

Father:
Refresh important? Integrated graphics could handle the resolution, but usually not 60 Hz on both.
Depending on CPU requirements he'd need one with >4 cores though and in that case there's no iGPU anyway.
Built in SD reader is possible, but a USB one might be more easily reachable.

Smaller is also an option.

Brother's friend:
Doesn't want to overclock as in not if it costs extra or just not at all?

Then let's wait and see what happens until then. Can't really make a partlist with parts that haven't been announced yet.

#408 TF2 benchmarks in TF2 General Discussion
RockzRyzen also tends have "smoother feeling" in games, the frame times are much more stable and it won't jitter as much as Intel. I'd suggest to upgrade ^^

Source on that?

11% are not worth a 400$ upgrade imho.

It's complicated

How soon?
New CPUs with even more cores coming.
New GPUs coming.

To be honest I don't think you'll have to spend 2000$ to get 144fps on medium.
Are we talking 1080p?

#2307
HBM2 vs GDDR is complicated.
GDDR5X and in the future GDDR6 are replacing GDDR5.

Rest is correct.

#2308
Basically you'll get about twice the threads at the same price with Ryzen. Streaming loves threads.
Now at the low end for each category (in terms of cores/threads) you'll also get higher single threaded performance (e.g. i5-7400 vs R5 1500X), but at the high end Ryzen will usually move up already in terms of cores/threads, but not quite reach the single threaded performance (e.g, i5-7600K vs R5 1600X, i5 is faster ST even on stock clocks, even more when OC'd but the 1600X got 3 times the threads).
So for any game/program that does scale with cores Ryzen is usually the better choice.

If we're just talking maximum single threaded performance with virtually unlimited budget then you should get an i7-7700K and overclock it. But looking at benchmarks it doesn't seem like you'll need that.

#2309
Yeah, but if 4 cores / 8 threads are adequate for streaming then why would you want to pay 350$ instead of 190$ for it?
Then again you also spent >200$ on an overlocking mobo and got a 25$ cooler, so maybe your goal had nothing to do with either price or performance.

#38 private music trackers in Music, Movies, TV
the301stspartanWell I mean u have to post on tf.tv for tracker recommendations, wait for answers, go to one of their IRCs, wait for someone to talk to you, convince them you're not a leech etc. I assume there's not someone waiting for you in IRC all day? Sounds laborious to me. Maybe it's not, I've never tried, also I never pirated music so idk how bad direct downloads are there.

And you're going to register on a new private tracker for every download?

the301stspartanHi I don't torrent but can one of you invite pirates tell me what's the benefit of interviewing at a private tracker as opposed to just paying a few shekels for uploaded.net premium and direct downloading everything?

Completely free > a few shekels.
Things don't get taken down so you don't have to crawl through 10 mirrors before finding a working one.
Also search function & quality control.

the301stspartanBut it probably takes u at least 2 or 3 hours to be ready to download which at minimum wage is more than you need to get direct for a month

Why would it need time to be ready to download?

QuibinarySetsulQuibinaryRatio is the one of the primary reasons private trackers exist, to get people to seed. And if you download tons of music without worrying about ratio you're basically fucked as it's nearly impossible to get your ratio to 0.0 or higher again fast enough not to get your account deleted. How would you even get a ratio below 0.0?You know what I meant. daily I'm going to assume you meant 1.0 because I have two brain cells and could tell what you probably meant. You don't need to keep a 1.0 ratio, ever. No matter what, it's not a requirement. I obviously meant whatever ratio x site requires you to keep. Apparently this is proof I don't know what I'm talking about though.

To be honest I'm not sure if you understand the point of ratio. I'm pretty sure ever private tracker ever is really clear about ratio requirements. Most even allow 0.0 up to a certain download precisely so you can download a bit and start building upload, as long as you seed.
If you just ignore the rules, download 100GB instantly without seeding and then wonder why you get banned...

Sort of, but it's not the kind of problem that can be effectively diagnosed over the internet.
Love me some rework though.

Just in case the PSU is still overheating (it really shouldn't, but if it's a really badly ventilated case + Spain...) do the paperclip test with nothing connected to the PSU again. If the PSU's fan starts spinning (might stop after a while or slow down) then you can be sure it's either CPU or mobo.
I'm guessing you're not getting any beep codes, so it is rather likely to be the mobo.

#41
Correct, chances are like 90%, but I've had one case where it was the CPU.

#20 ESEA Scams user out of $30,739.85 in Esports

Soooooo
1. They knew about the ad and still paid out the first month. Can't pay out one month and then claim it's illegal on the second month.
2. They changed their ToS after this all happened and are now claiming it's against their ToS. That doesn't work.
3. Then they claimed it was against Google's ToS. Apart from that being a terrible argument, trying to enforce other companies' ToS when they themselves clearly seemed to take no issue, it really isn't violating those ToS.
4. ESEA doesn't easily give up so they found a "better" argument. He infringed on copyrighted and trademarked material. Now that might work if he didn't link to ESEA's OWN website (not even forwarding via his own server, direct link) and if ESEA actually owned the ESEA trademark. They don't, apparently. And there seems to be no copyright on anything ESEA related.
5. Apparently the case just got moved to California. You know, where ESEA lost the bitcoin lawsuit and now aren't allowed to pull anything even remotely shady or they'll get sued into non-existence.

Let me grab my popcorn.

EDIT: Forgot to mention two other points.

#39 PC shut downs in Hardware

Ok, weird shit is happening.
I'm assuming you did the paperclip test correctly, so if the PSU indeed didn't turn on on it's own the it was definitely not ok.

But other things might be broken as well.
Since you already tried it with the iGPU I can only see 3 possibilities:
1. Mobo.
2. CPU.
3. Software (most likely windows).

Without a different mobo or CPU you can't check that, you could only try what happens on a fresh install or with a bootable Linux on a USB stick.
