#34 ESEA S18 LAN - Day 2 in Events

We used to get 3k+ for LANs, but that's really died down since the quickfix LAN debacle lol, never really gotten up over 2k since if memory serves.

14 hours of direct involvement in the casting process went a lot faster than I expected it would. Now for the big show.

I've only got to cast with the bear once, and it was a 5-0 that lasted like 12 minutes RIP casting dreams.

Good luck Alkaline! lol I remember I wrote some of the articles a while ago - definitely looking forward to this weekend. Watched every LAN since S9 in their entirety, now I get to cast it. Very excited.

#63 hillary clinton candidate in Off Topic

Every politician in office has railed against video games at some point - particularly those that have been in office since the 90's nobody is clean.

#22 Eyesight thread in Off Topic

I dont have to wear glasses because I went to the driver's test on the busiest day and memorized what the people who didnt have glasses said.

I still wear glasses or contacts plenty of the time whenever there's something far away that I need to see.

The GOP has had a really difficult time running candidates recently. Their circus candidates are already starting to come out of the wood-work. I assume Jeb or Rubio will get the nomination - because to win the presidency you *must* win Ohio and Florida. They give you a lot of traction in Florida.

Rand Paul will be crucified by the media because he is bad with people in general, and Santorum, Perry, and anybody else in that vein are complete jokes - they exist purely to attempt to translate their candidacy into money for book and TV deals.

The Dems likely don't have anybody other than Hillary really, maybe somebody will pop up, but as of right now they don't have anybody with a ton of name recognition that wouldn't be reviled by the GOP. Hillary actually has pretty good positioning, because she ran as a moderate relative to Obama, and the same thing now is basically what the Democrats will punch their ticket on.

For my part, I'll do my duty of voting for the furthest left Dem in the primaries, and then just voting Democrat like a defeatist. My only hope for the next election is that our complete embarrassment of a governor gets knocked out (Mike Pence) lol.

#10 Pillars of Eternity Releases in a day or so in Other Games

I'm *more* than pleased. The expectation for the game was enough - I haven't been able to be genuinely excited about a new release in a long time - and then it actually paid off.

As for your concerns about spell costery lol. I think it's a carry over from 3.0/3.5 D&D where scribing scrolls cost a small monetary fee because you had "material" costs associated with it somehow. It's not like the money matters really - 300 coppers are nothing.

I honestly love the Stash lol. In part because they've decided to include so much crap in the game lol I mean everybody wears a hat just about! lol.

I take it as a D&D-esq hand-waive. We'd always just hand-waive that the party had a team of mules + a wagon that we'd toss all our crap in (along with a few 1sp/day mercs to stand around and guard said mules + wagon when we weren't around). Or alternatively some donkey's + mercs if it was a mountain lol. I mean what self-respecting band of adventurers *doesn't* have a team of mules + carts following them around right?

I expected the game to be a lot more light-hearted than it is - it's quite grim, but I suppose Chris Avellone had a lot to do with that lol, and I'm 100% OK with that.

#10 DeathAdder left click button issue in Hardware

pop the face plate off - i let my kiddo use my old one and he was banging on the lc so hard it actually wore away at the little plastic piece that pushes the actual button - I went to a hardware store and bought some hard plastic appoxy (make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that it won't be sticky). After applying the plastic, and shaping it a bit with a file the mouse went back to working fine :D

They said the reason they didnt do any multiplayer was so that they could make the game bigger, given the hassle of adding functional multiplayer in. They're already talking about making an expansion pack though - i could see multiplayer being a part of that (since a bunch of the games that came before it did have multiplayer).

I kickstarted torment II and Wasteland II because I'm an old interplay/black isle/brian fargo fanboi - I was very pleased with Wasteland 2.

I'm in the process of trying not to be excited for a game.

I was involved in its (then) record breaking kickstarter campaign 2 years ago, and will be, eventually, getting a signed copy of this game along with the digital download. Hopefully it doesn't suck - but most of the "review" type websites out there are singing it's praises and saying, that at last, I've got my follow up to Baldur's gate 2 - it only took 15 years..

I fully intend to get this game running as soon as I can and completely disappear for 3+ days. To relive my teen days, I've procured a case of coke, which will be ice cold throughout, and a box of cinnamon pop tarts.

You should also bind your mouse and cross hair settings into your autoexec :D Never be without your sense again! (also helpful if you view a POV demo without marking it read only).

#31 School in Off Topic

Honestly everybody goes through a phase like that except for those who *all* things come super easy. I basically did nothing in high school and still did well - had anything actually been difficult I'd have totally dropped that ball in a second.

I know if my parents got an e-mail from a teacher I wouldn't have had a computer to type on though, so you've still got that going for you! lol.

It's simple, everything that we do is a conscious choice - every time you choose not to do something the onus for that act is on you. You can continue to do nothing, and tolerate the repercussions, or do it - you've got freedom there.

The way I approach it with my sonny boy (yeah, he's only in 1st grade but they still have to read 1 book, and do some kind of math every night) is he gets and snack and 30 minutes to veg with minecraft, and then I sit there and stare at him awkwardly (while reading a book) until he finishes his homework lol. Getting shit done right away is handy because you don't have to bother with it again. I know it sounds lame, but it started on me because of being a 3 1/2 sport athlete in HS (I did baseball and track at the same time) - every sport held every student over an extra 30 minutes, and your coaches would watch you do your homework (honestly a full load of work rarely took more than 45 minutes). If you didn't have your stuff done you wouldn't play. It's become such a habit for the kiddo he's taken to doing a lot of his math work on the bus, just so he can have more time to play without me staring at him for a half hour every night lol.
