#13 Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge? in TF2 General Discussion
PheeshKissmePheeshKissmeAnd now I feel I must upgrade from my 3930k when Haswell comes out :|
From 3930k? Unless you are fretting about power consumption you really shouldn't. 3930k is pretty beast. Haswell is mostly targeted towards mobile and efficiency rather than high end desktop performance. That won't change until Haswell-E comes out which is probably a year later.

Ah, I haven't really read up on the Haswell's. Thought they were going to be the newer Ivy's.
They are the newer ivy's, but there's a couple different product lines to keep in mind.

What you have, the 3930K, is based on the xeon server products which have a different schedule than the mainstream desktop products. (it's based on a die that has more cores, that's how you have a 6 core part).

As an example an Ivy bridge product has still not been released on socket 2011 for xeon server products yet, even though Haswell for mainstream desktop/mobile is going to be releasing in a few months.

Your chip would be referred to as Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge-E hasn't even released yet, and Haswell-E would be the follow-on. Assuming you want to keep a 6 core setup you probably won't have a reason to upgrade until Haswell-E, which is probably not till late 2014.

Ah, I was assuming that the Ivy-E would be the last we'd see of the E-series being the 6 cores. Thought Haswell would come with 6 cores standard and then the E-series would be 8 cores. I haven't been following technology lately, been le lazy.

Guess Intel doesn't want to stray from 4 core standard, but they like to perfect the art of their cores before just adding on a billion lesser cores *cough AMD* :3

#137 i49 in TF2 General Discussion
alfaIf you want to put your money into something, invest in Dreamhack

I think someone crunched down the numbers and it would take about 25k or more to get TF2 as an event there.

But if we invest in getting TF2 into Dreamhack, then we'd still have to raise the money to send an American team there (since it's in Sweden I believe.)

Edit: I mean, do we believe that we can raise ~$35,000 as a community to not only fund TF2 in Dreamhack (~$25,000), but also fly an NA team to it (~$10,000)? It'd take a massive community get-together.

i49 - When Continents Collide

#109 i49 in TF2 General Discussion

Start the collection for i49.

From reading this entire thread, I've seen people talk about how the last i48/i46 brought the NA and EU scenes closer together and how they have even begun to work on 'projects' and 'content' together as one entity. Well, this appears to be another one of those 'projects'. There are people from both scenes that have already pledged to donate to seeing this battle between NA and EU happen again at i49.

So why not let us see if we can raise the funds?

And the people saying 'well you should be donating those $50 to a tournament prize pool', when was the last time you saw a prize pool thread/donation for a tournament (granted I haven't been around this scene until recently, I could be wrong.) Why not let the people donate to what they WANT to see happen, whether it brings exposure/grows the community doesn't matter, people want what they want. And to a certain extent, the people that donate to the cause will be self-promoters for the i49, because to them, it's a big deal and that's all they're going to talk about to their friends once it's confirmed that it's happening.

I say, let the people donate to what THEY want, and it's never too early to start the collection. I will even donate because I feel that this community has helped me greatly in the past months and I feel it's time to return the favor.

#8 Mumble Casts in TF2 General Discussion
MR_SLINKissmeI'd like to see war rooms sometimes in TF2, I don't know if that was ever a thing though.
It used to be but then players/teams started trolling the casters (this is like waaaaay back in the day -- like leogeo days). We've recently had problems with random players hopping into the casting mumble so we're on lockdown for now.

I think historically the reason we haven't had mumble casts is because we're trying to increase the viewership of the channel. I'm not sure what will happen in the future but I would expect that stance to hold for the time being.

We had the same problem with some teams in L4D2 in both the NA and EU scenes. We basically had to ask the team if they'd like to participate in a war room and then if they said 'yes', then ask them to be serious about it and not just start talking about what their favorite cereal is during tank (literally happened in the Grand Finals of a tournament...)

Sucks that players started trolling your war rooms :/
