#739 MAJOR TF2 update for 6/18/14 (6/19/14, Love & War) in TF2 General Discussion
AllealCan you explain to me what you think the difference between area denial and damage is? You don't actually think area denial literally means put stickies on the ground right?

Right, I don't actually think area denial literally means put stickies on the ground.

Now what I think the difference is between area denial and damage is that area denial is the threat of damage as well as damage. If an enemy gamer is where you don't want them to be, you damage them until they get the fuck out. Now if are are at choke and you would rather not have the enemy team come through choke, a demo might think the put a couple stickies down to dissuade them from doing so. Now I consider, I guess here is the source of your question, that the word area denial is more closely associated to the threat of damage than actual damage is. As damage is taken and viewed at as its own individual thing/stat, that the only time area denial would really be used would be to describe area denial minus DPS more so when DPS is mentioned as a separate thing in the same thought.

I guess I made a wrong assumption that people perceived the word the same way I do. I can't seem to think, being 1am and all, of a different word to describe the "threat of damage" and to stop an enemy to go where you don't want them to, so suggestions are more than welcomed.

#732 MAJOR TF2 update for 6/18/14 (6/19/14, Love & War) in TF2 General Discussion
KingReptarSo I was expecting this to be awful just like everyone else as a demo main. Surprisingly, I've been having A LOT of fun. Pipes, while unreliable, are fun as hell, and it feels nice to not be focused all the time. Also, using more traps is pretty fun.

I didn't think Valve nerfing my class would make me enjoy it more, but it did. I am probably an outlier though.

I haven't played any 6s since the update but this honestly makes me want to pick up demo again. Using stickies for area denial/traps and not being the DPM crutch for your team while being the main focus for the other team sounds great for me. I never really liked the "old" playstyle, so I never practiced it and was complete shit although I loved the class itself. I also love how satisfying pipes are to hit while stickies never really did it for me. If it is the outlying opinion then so be it but I honestly have hope for what the update is going to do to the meta.

#45 ESEA S16 - half of the season in TF2 General Discussion
ESEA-Shootercyzer3. My suggestion of lowering backup fees, see my reasoning at #18
4. Some sort of backup plan on those days the client downright breaks because of a TF2 update or the client is just broken, maybe ESEA servers that can be put up that aren't required by the client in case of emergencies or the sort. And perhaps can be put up quickly in case it's a high profile match and stv isn't working. Dunno, just a thought.. though the client seems better this season although it might just be because I'm not using it as much.
3. That's not possible, unfortunately.
4. Like I've said earlier, things should be fixed, and not sent somewhere else. I think ESEA has made great improvements for the updates (I think we didn't have any downtime this season, thanks to the client team) :)

Ok so for my questions

(I had better explanations for these questions but my internet decided otherwise.)

1. Why is it impossible for ESEA to implement lower fees for backups?

2. If this suggestion is impossible, what can ESEA do to encourage teams to get backups?

It is a bitter pill for a team/player to pay league fees for a player that is maybe only playing a few games a season and ESEA has to deal with the shit that come from rescheduling/fixing a situation that come from a lack of backups, so what is ESEA's plan to fix this problem.

3. If a client or any issues ESEA side causes a match to be delayed and neither team can field six until it starts to interfere with next week/rounds matches which are determined by that delayed match, what is ESEA's solution to the problem they caused?

I ask this specific question with a situation Kalkin had with IM (?) playoffs a season or two back in mind (people can correct me if I am completely off base) but I don't think full knowledge of the situation is needed to answer. However that situation and my inference of your response to number 4 leads me to my next question.

4. Why is ESEA so adamant and unwilling to create an off client solution for a client caused problem?

I agree with that sentiment of fixing things and not pushing them off elsewhere and, from it sounds like, the client is better. However unless you are willing to say that there will never be an issue with the client or that issues with the client will be solved in such a manner that they will never affect match times, there is going to be problems that will need to be addressed in a different way. Just having an off client option wouldn't make it the default go to but for extreme cases, I don't see why it wouldn't be there.

#10 new blog post in TF2 General Discussion
[the map has] got a whole bunch of interesting new gameplay

Now this I am curious about, the only way I can think about what this could mean is something like low gravity but other than that are we talking actual new game/map mechanics or just reskinned mechanics/mechanics that can be recreated with a couple lines in console.

If we are talking about brand new mechanics then I am more curious about what community map makers can do with them than the actual map itself. Since it is in a moon base you can have more advanced technology in the map so something like the bouncy/speed goos from Portal 2 to give more movement to maps or robot creep to make maps feel more alive. Now I am not saying these couple ideas are balanced, smart or even fun to play with but I would like to see something that would give map makers the ability to make maps feel more alive and dynamic.

Oh wait, it is cool to shit on Ruwin now? Sweet, I can't wait to show the world how edgy I can be. Perwinkle-upboats here I come.

Edit

mince__was ruwin cut, or did he just leave the team

He technically left but was essentially cut by the team.

#6 Grab youtube/hitbox comments and paste them in IRC in Off Topic
thesupremecommanderYou'd have to look into the YouTube comments API.

Man, this is when I really wish more about API and I guess just coding in general. However from the research I did, it seems that this task would be even more difficult with the new google+ comments, the fact I am trying to grab youtube live comments and they are slowing introducing a new API.

I will slowly try to unravel the web to do something (it will be a learning experience and a long one at that) but any more help would be appropriated as I really wouldn't know what to do with that information when I would be able to get it.

Hitbox's API seems a lot less convoluted (and some place I can actually stream since youtube won't let me yet for whatever reason) but it is a lot less documented.

I am able to stream to twitch.tv/hitbox simultaneously so if someone needs help following this guide on how to do it let me know.

#7 CEVO Update in TF2 General Discussion
hooliI think the whole team fee thing is a great idea. If the devs could setup a way for members to pay a portion that would be cool.

I feel like this would be a good idea as well. We know that most teams will have individual players pay their share so make it a bit easier for them to do so.

#1 Grab youtube/hitbox comments and paste them in IRC in Off Topic

So I have been screwing around with different aspects of streaming and something I have been flirting around with is streaming to multiple websites at the same time. Now how feasible this is, I am not sure but I am trying to pull off some linux magic I found in a guide to make it easier. The thing I am wondering is if there is to consolidate chats from different streaming websites into one IRC channel. Now I know nothing about IRC but I am pretty sure this goes beyond basic IRC knowledge.

I know that Twitch uses IRC so that isn't that big of an issue. But I also want to try to stream to sites such as hitbox and youtube, so I want to grab those chats as well. Now if their comments also have an IRC server then things would be easy but I am pretty sure this isn't the case. With that being said, is there a bot or some other method to automatically grab the username/comment and paste them into IRC. This will help simplify things considerably and would be appreciated if someone could lend a hand.

#25 Depression in Off Topic

From someone who has seen this and dealt with it over the last 6 months, this is what you need to do.

Go to your normal doctor as soon as you possibly can. You may feel like not going, going later, not getting your parents involved or that it is not that big of a deal to warrant going, I do not care. Call them now, leave a message or call them tomorrow if they are closed right this second (and for no other reason). When dealing with depression, when you least want to do something like this is when you NEED to do it the most.

When you get to the doctor, explain to him/her what your feelings and actions are (example being not eating and why you don't feel like eating). It would be unusual for them to ask you about your past so if you feel embarrassed, it shouldn't be brought up (if they do ask though, tell them). They will tell you what to do from there, do exactly what they say and in a timely manner.

You can add me here, I can tell you things that have helped me and other people in your situation but until you go to the doctor I will tell you nothing but to go to the doctor immediately.

#182 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion

I have a lot more written but I think this does the job.

I don't want the community to be attached to an abusive, careless, virus injecting, half working, outdated life support system which we barely get use out of and wasn't even designed for us just because the community is afraid it might die or have a shitty couple experience for a couple of months.

On a personal level, there is a reason I skipped this season of ESEA (me being shit at the game aside) and will continue not using ESEA in any capacity until changes are made. ESEA detracted more to my competitive TF2 experience/fun than it added. So if the move to CEVO helps TF2 in the long run and make it fun again, awesome. If the move fails than that leaves me (note the word me) in the same place than if we continue with ESEA, me not caring about competitive TF2 anymore.
