#18 Been gone 3 years, what have I missed? in TF2 General Discussion
yttriumTino_Valve is (trying?) to make 6v6 a thing but with no weapon bans, no class limits and pl as a actual gamemode... So no they are not trying to kill it but the way they put shit together is killing it.a good way to put it is that they are not trying to kill it but they are actively killing it as opposed to passively killing it

It's not that valve is "killing TF2", TF2 has always had a ticking timer of relevancy. The issue is valve at this point in time are pretty much the only people capable of resetting the timer. Issue is, the way they're handling things, they're making the timer tick even faster. Half-baked releases, slow confusing response times, seemingly disconnected decision making. These have always been prominent valve issues but they become even more apparent now more than ever with the handling of matchmaking and maintaining interest in the game.

#4 Can someone update FunkeHUD plz? in Q/A Help
insouciantFUNKeThat one is mega outdated at this point. I haven't really got the time to update it but if it's any consolation my newest hud variation is inspired by the one I used in 2015 so you might like it. link
Do you have any screenshots of the hud? I'm thinking of switching up huds myself and it'd be cool to see what yours looks like.

Here it is in video form (ignore my voice)

#538 I've updated some huds in Customization
Dyl4NBUBBLES6721Please update funke's HUD please if you do you are my hero here's the link ---->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpDlvLoIHdI
Bubbles, Hypnotize has already said that FUNKe keeps his hud updated in his steam group, so Hypnotize does not need to update it. You can find his steam group here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/funkesgrotto#announcements/detail/959651810724919240

My hud updates are non-sequential. I frequently completely restart with different hud bases and fonts- when people are asking for hud updates, they are asking for him to update previous iterations of my hud. That said, nobody's obligated to update them. And if people ask for updates, they should specify and present a specific download. It's useless and likely annoying for the thread to be spammed with "update funkes hud". But my main point is, I have a lot of different huds with different bases (rayshud, toonhud, 7hud, broesel etc). So if hypno wants to update them, then that's fine since the only version I update is whatever the most recent iteration is. People frequently ask me to fix my toonhud and rayshud renditions but I've always made huds by chopping together things I like and jerryrigging solutions so I'm realistically not very good at "maintaining" huds after they release..

If somebody else is willing to update the old one they're more than welcome to though.

#62 Hurricane Matthew in Off Topic
wolsneHoping Funke will check in, the only images shown on the news are awful flooding along the beach, but I can't image inland got it too bad.

According to my landlord my house is okay- no power and some shit knocked over outside but otherwise fine. The popular flooded pics of downtown st Aug are within 10 miles from me so I was pretty worried but AFAIK inland was mostly tame

#50 Hurricane Matthew in Off Topic
wolsneDo your best to stay calm friend, the storm has already weakened to a category 3, and it's between Vero Beach, and Melbourne right now. It's likely to weaken more before approaching St. Augustine/Jax and unless you live within 1/2 mile of the beach you wont see flash flooding/storm surge probably, and the winds will likely not be strong enough to rip your roof/windows off. More likely than not, all of your belongings will be safe because the storm is expected to veer off into the atlantic and not make eye-wall landfall within your area.

Thank you, I will try to sleep

Edit: YOU LIAR YOU GODDAMN LIAR

#49 Hurricane Matthew in Off Topic

I live just directly southeast of Jacksonville. My cat and computer are at my house while me and my entire family are in Georgia/south Carolina for a wedding this weekend. My parents wouldn't bring the cat because they thought it would be fine, just gave it a shitton of food and water. My house is fucked. My computer is fucked. Even if my computer wasn't near a window (it's presumably in sight of one) the damage Matthew can potentially create could fuck my entire room up regardless. I have the money to replace my computer, but not my cat. Nobody can get her because everyone is evacuated. Gone are all my video files too. All my work and everything on my hard drives.

I'm good at staying calm but fuck if my head isn't spinning 30 ways to Sunday thinking about the worst possible scenario. This is devastating.

If my house is fucked, everything is fucked. I have a large family tree and my parents make enough money for us to live somewhere else and get by. But my cat could die, even if she doesn't she's going to be terrified beyond despair. I can't make videos for a long time. I can't play competitive anymore. All my belongings i didnt bring with me to georgia destroyed. My parents did all the lockdown stuff they could before they left, but with a hurricane this strong who knows what good that will do. Holy fuck

#25 Slin talks whitelist, atomizer and base jumper ban in TF2 General Discussion
Elepimpi feel like i might get downfragged for this but honeslty after seeing this terrible whitelist of awful weapons i don't think should ever have a place in a competitive environment, I am not as disapointed about my team dying. I don't understand how the "pilars of the comunity that know whats best for us" could throw away a good whitelist that banned most all of the overpowered weapons, most of the weapons that take no skill to use and the ones that are not fun to play against. just because they think it will help the game grow. I'm sorry but i don't want to see the game grow if we are just going to see a stupidly chaotic game with a bunch of autistic weapons being used. I personally would rather have stock only than this new "competitive" 6v6 whitelist.

I interpreted the adjustment as a "here valve look we're compromising we're being less strict on meta that's what you want right please use the statistics please rebalance weapons please support the scene"

Now we wait another 3 years to see if that has any result... I doubt anybody endorsing this whitelist thought the actual whitelist was a 'great' idea. It's literally just that we need valve to give a shit, and we have to hand everything we can to them, even if it means appealing to their seemingly meta-less scene they want to balance around

#243 tftv safe space (no harassment plz) in Off Topic

A lot of people think youtubers are egotistical, and will stand by that belief religiously whenever it's brought up. forum posts of people passionately discussing why someone like me is an asshole because they watched a single video they didn't like. Back before I aliased people would frequently talk shit in-game just because I said hello when someone recognized me, my battlenet is FUNKe so occasionally i'll run into an angry individual who thrashes my content and tries to get my attention whenever they kill me, hell I browsed /tf2g/ from about 2012-2014, and i've been told by friends that people there still legitimately believe the reason i left was because I "couldn't handle that nobody liked my vids, so i moved to reddit where my feelings wouldn't get hurt". I wasn't even making videos until 2015 so that makes no sense. It's annoying to be judged purely by your content instead of your character.

#9 What are your weird in game habits/behaviour? in TF2 General Discussion

on my old 6s team my scout partner loved to swing her basher on teammates during firstspawn/early rollout and would peeve off the entire team whenever she whacked herself with it, her only explanation was that she derived pleasure from the sound of beating teammates with her melee

As for me I'm not sure if this is "weird" but i run circles around players during pregame trying to keep my crosshair on their head the entire time as a warmup

#9 I sent this to valve in TF2 General Discussion

You're wasting time hoping valve will throw cash at it, they didn't grow to be the company they are by handing out money to community events. I'm fairly positive valve doesn't even want to tote our version of 6s as the best way to play 6s in TF2 (hence matchmaking having no bans and us seeing zero previous tourny sponsors). You're more likely to make a medal, ask them to sell it in the store and send the creators split of profits directly into the prizepool than you are to get a hand-out for it. Also considering you aren't a direct representative of the event, they have no reason to feel obliged to respond to you either.

I think it'd be great if they did do something to help out, but the focus should be on if the community can make it happen on their own before we try to bank on valve suddenly caring. That said, it's good to see people reaching out to them so we can at least let them know.

#53 Biannual iseries idea feat. NA in TF2 General Discussion
JoshdumanAlthough I'm pretty new here, I saw this post and it got me thinking. I have a fair deal of experience with fundraising type events (around 20 hosted), and I find that actual involvement tends to bring better results than just selling something (I.e. hosting a golf outing vs selling candy bars). Suppose there was some kind of online event held, where people could pay like 20 (or more) dollars to play sixes comp game with one (maybe two?) pro player and other people who paid. I mean, one game would raise about 200 dollars, and price is still pretty low. I just have a feeling that a good number of people would love a chance to interact with the actual players.

I don't really know what processes are currently used, though, so this could be a silly suggestion for all I know.

Keep in mind a large majority of the tf2 community is still getting acquainted with competitive. Many don't play it at all, but have a developing interest in watching it. They are also a younger age demographic because of the free to play model. In TF2's case providing some sort of "gift" for donating is probably a much stronger incentive than getting to play with a mix of invite players, whom they are probably not familiar with besides recognizing their name.
