Bought it yesterday. Not having particular expectations because I think the original game is already very good, but I'm looking forward to play it nonetheless. The new civs they added look interesting

As if this is game is still going strong. Absolute classic.

Used to get schooled by its decade-old AI back in the day.

I think its kinda beautiful how it creeped into semi-prominence. Game has an esports scene

Obviously yes
I really hope Microsoft puts big money into the game, it really deserves it and the competitive scene has been going pretty strong for a while already

i would like someone to report back whether they ruined the gameplay, if not i might make this the first video game i've bought in like seven years, purely to play the new campaigns

if truly all they changed is the graphics, that's great news

from what I have heard it is basically the same with some improvements like: you can queue technologies, villager tasks and there is a button with which farms get reseeded automatically.
44 mins for release!

graphics remake of an already remastered game? hmmm

crosoftCelebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular strategy games ever with this definitive remastered edition

lmao definitive remastered edition, see you in 4 years for the VR/8K remaster definitive edition

For me remastered games are about making an old game run on current hardware without any hacks required. AFAIK AoE2 HD runs fine on Win10.
20€ is fine if one hasn't already bought the game (possibly multiple times, AoE2 CD + HD edition). For me, no way I'm gonna put 20 bucks in a game I already bought.

@Caeli I didnt find any of those features on the crosoft page nor the steam store one :(

@Twiggy You can find them on gameplays and video analysis from TheViper or SpiritOfTheLaw for example. Those are also listed in some AoE2 forums and reddit.
So for example, you can make a villager build something and command him to go mine gold when the building is complete

If you've watched several popular aoe2 youtubers, they've all showcased these things. Also it's 15€ if you already have aoe2HD.

thanks for your precisions guys.
so does this game use a different network server or are you able to play with folks running the HD edition?

It has a different engine (I think it's a version of the original but they made a lot of changes) so that wouldn't even be possible. Plus they also redid the online system from scratch. They have dedicated servers now, so people won't get slowed down by that one guy playing from like Vietnam or something. (but also peer to peer if u want, I THINK). Also new online ranked mode.

I played a bit yesterday and I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's annoying because I like the new hotkeys a lot more but I'm not used to them at all, I lost like three villagers to the same boar

I've watched a changelog video and I think they did a good job improving the UI and bots. Also training mode looks useful, not like TF2's

I didnt understand if AoE2 HD maps could be used in the new level editor

BTW, did they announce other games with that engine?

I dont think so! But they released some more information on Age of Empires 4!
It's being developed by a different studio, but I think it will be a good game still!
