How would they do that? What Lakers trade package is good enough for the Pels to accept if they refuse to trade their best young asset?

I dont see how that compares to what Boston, Toronto, or even trash teams like the Bulls or Knicks could offer.

fuegoI dont see how that compares to what Boston, Toronto, or even trash teams like the Bulls or Knicks could offer.

that's why i said ideally the lakers want to keep kuzma

we all know out of all the first round picks the lakers amassed kuzma is likely to be the only player who isn't a bust so they're gonna have to trade him if they want davis

the knicks would have much more success trying to lure davis in during free agency since they have the cap space to sign him and another all-star to long term deals while keeping porzingis around AND drafting zion/r.j. barrett/bol bol/ja morant

toronto has a chance if kawhi stays but even if he does i don't think the raptors have enough talent to warrant gutting some of their best starting and bench players for davis considering keeping lowry, ibaka, siakam, and anunoby is important to them contending for titles

the celtics honestly have a better chance of trading for davis if they offer up hayward, horford, and smart/bird/brown

Bust? Honestly? They're not Darko and Kwame just because they're not phenomenal out the gate. Not every player is gonna be a star, that doesn't mean they can't be solid rotation pieces. Just so happens that Lonzo and Ingram don't fit with Lebron's playstyle or the Lakers' timeline very well.

That Knicks scenario sounds farfetched to me, but I agree they could build a contending team if they draft well and manage to move Hardaway and Lee. Kawhi seems destined to go to the Clippers at this point, but an AD trade could convince him to stay given a good playoff run. The contract situation doesn't work out at all with your Celtics trade, and a trade would have to include Tatum and/or Brown.

the celtics trade i proposed doesn’t work out contractually but i assume it would take more than an even trade involving davis and horford/hayward for the pelicans to be happy, while also assuming that the other players could be flipped to rebuilding teams like the suns/heat/bulls/cavs/hawks for draft picks and/or cash

calling the first round picks other than kuzma i agree is harsh but they just don’t work in the scheme lebron wants to run and lebron is the core player to build around for the next 4 years so trading away the young player that best fits his playstyle should be avoided at all costs

after listening to the dunc'd on trade deadline podcast I think the offer they built from the knicks might actually be compelling to the pelicans

basically it's porzingis and the 2019 1st rounder top 1 protected, plus guys like hardaway to match salaries

so basically the knicks would have to give up both porzingis and the potential first overall pick in the draft? i guess that’s worth it if they know they can sign davis to an extension as well as recruit another superstar in free agency but i personally think they’d be better off just trying to get a superstar and another all-star caliber player on a discount during free agency, keeping porzingis by dumping players and salaries somewhere, then drafting high and going full “win now” mode

well a) porzingis' value might only fall as he stays injured/isn't quite as good, b) having AD might make it a lot easier to recruit kyrie/kemba/durant/whoever else than just porzingis, and c) even if they got zion, you're not gonna be in "win now mode" with a rookie, that just never happens

if the knicks truly believe that they can build a 2-3 superstar super team, getting AD as soon as possible is the way to do it.

You're 100% right actually, after thinking about just how good the team would be next year if the lakers moved mountains to get AD, even if it means giving up kuzma ball ingram zubac and a couple picks. You have to fact check me on this but I'm pretty sure the lakers have cap space for another star after AD.

if the lakers let almost all of the people they picked up in free agency walk then i could see them having the cap space

however, considering how terrible they’ve been without lebron i would say depth is also really important and clearing ur bench to sign a superstar might work in the short-term but not the long-term

They should be able to sign a max guy yeah, and according to Woj, Klay has recently expressed interest in joining the Lakers if they add AD and Golden State give him anything less than a max.

I get that porzingis requested a trade but did they really have to jump on the first offer like 30 seconds after

is this REALLY the best return they could've gotten? dennis smith and some salary relief?

They have the space for 2 max guys now though, and will definitely be in the lottery. Another frozen envelope and they're onto something.

lmao, cant wait to see the Stephen A Smith reaction.

How about them Mavs now tho. Weren't Luka and Dennis Smith Jr having chemistry issues? Should be pretty exciting watching Porzingis and Luka when Porzingis finally comes back.

on one hand dumping all that salary is great for them in free agency, but on the other hand there's no one left on the roster that will really wow any free agents

i don't think KD and kyrie are chomping at the bit to play with enes kanter and dennis smith jr.

the knicks could always use those two plus deandre jordan and their 2019 draft pick (if it ends up the first overall pick) to trade for an all-star caliber player to build a team around through free agency, but that seems like a long shot

they probably leaked the trade request ahead of finalizing the trade to hope that knicks fans wouldn't riot but they could have at least waited a day or so
