For anyone interested, the 2018 World Chess Championship started today. Game 1 just ended in a draw about 15 mins ago. Link below for the full schedule of matches and replays.

https://www.chess.com/article/view/world-chess-championship-2018-carlsen-caruana#when

Should be an awesome Championship match, Magnus Carlsen vs Fabiano Caruana. He has a huge challenge ahead of him, Carlsen is a monster, but i'll be cheering. Go Fabi!

damn Carlsen blundered the game honestly. Caruana is quite lucky to come out of there with a draw, with white nonetheless. Caruana has competed with magnus before, but I don't think this is the year for magnus to be dethroned

All the top players compete here and there in various tournaments over the years but it is typically only 1 game at a time. The main difference here is that it is 12 matches (or more) against the same person. Kinda raises the bar and the excitement from game to game.

Not counting this 1st game draw, the head to head record between them in Classical Chess Only is:
33 Matches
10 Wins Carlsen
5 Wins Caruana
18 Draws

If you count other Match Sources like Blitz Chess, Rapid Chess, etc the record is
56 Matches
23 Wins Carlsen
11 Wins Caruana
22 Draws

maybe I can't see it but I don't see that knight move being a good exchange or a forced mate for black. Infact, that gives White the advantage after both black Knights are captured

A better move is Black Queen to G3. Force the White F2 pawn to capture, then black Knight on H5 to G3. Mate

Most airshots attempted in TF2 are "wasted shots" on poor choices to aim at. There are almost always better or more dangerous players to target instead. Its sweet to hit an airshot and looks great but most times it means little or nothing in the grand scheme.

That said, the best chess equivalent I can think of is capturing a pawn simply because it is undefended. It looks great on the board and you think its an advantage. However, good players will use that "wasted move" to initiate attacks as compensation for the lost piece.

But how does the knight go to G3 if the queen is on G3 lol.

Both moves are fine, all pretty much either force checkmate or win the queen, I just found the two knights there sexier. Qg3 is like mate in +10 moves since Qe5 prolongues the game.

Btw second game finished, Fabi played well and mantained a slight advantage but was unable to transform it onto a full point.

Black knight g3 check, white pawn forced to take knight at g3, black queen takes pawn at g3, and if I'm right then white's best move is to move queen to e5 which would trade white queen for black knight. the alternative moves for white in that situation result in mate for black or losing the queen without trading for a knight. You are right though, the better move is to move queen g3

The black pawn on F2 has to capture the white queen on G3. Then black knight takes G3 for checkmate.

I underlined in your post where I see something else

Once Black Knight to G3, White Pawn F2 Has to capture on G3
If you move Black Queen to G3 and Capture White Pawn, you get
White Pawn on G2 capture Black Knight on F3

At this point the Black Queen is alone and cannot force a checkmate. However, he can capture the 2 pawns on F3 and H3 as compensation for losing both of his Black Knights. White is not in the best situation because his King is very exposed but I would trade 3 pawns for 2 knights and take my chances as White.

The black queen isnt alone, there is a rook on b6 ready to jump. After White captures the other knight on F3 Rook to G6 is mate in 4.

Qg3 fails because after Qe5 Nxe5 white plays fxg3 and black hasn't actually won anything. 1... Ng3+ 2fxg3 Qxg3 3 gxf3 Rg6 is the winning line.

Alternatively, if you don't feel like doing any calculation, Nxe1 gives you an easy endgame.

Also, White is probably a pretty bad player. Ask yourself, from this position, what the hell was white's last move? Somehow, he managed to make a move that didn't involve taking the hanging knight on f3, taking the hanging pawn on e4, or moving his rook off of e1.

This position is taken from a Fabiano Caruana vs Levon Aronian blitz game. I made a mistake and forgot a bishop that is meant to be on F1, which just makes Ng3+ the only winning move, the bishop not being there is also what made the other moves suggested above work.

I completely agree that rapid and blitz have no place in determining the Classical Chess Champion. However, I would get too caught up in the fact there are so many Draws. Lots of Draws have always been part of long 1v1 series in chess.
There is a growing movement among the GM's to make some serious changes in the chess world.

First is to revamp the format of the Chess Championship we currently see on display. There is a lot of steam behind returning to the 24 match format or the First to 6 Wins format. Both allowed players to truly take risks and play with creativity as the series progressed. It made chess beautiful and not such a "1 mistake and I could lose everything" scenario like we see right now. Both Magnus and Fabiano are loathe to play anything truly aggressive right now. Instead it is a waiting game for one of them to play an inaccuracy or potential blunder. There is little beauty in this chess at the moment but that could change as I hope.

I personally want the "First to Win 6" format to return. Get these guys playing 2 matches per day and let them go until we have a clear winner. That is exciting to imagine. Here is one of the best lists for past world championships, the players, the formats used and the records of win/losses and draws for each.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Chess_Championships

Second, the amount of GM's is at a totally insane level and while they are all worthy of the title, the vast amount does decrease the meaning in a lot of peoples eyes. I hope they go forward with the "Super Grand Master" title or another such name. IMO, you must acknowledge the truly awesome players from the rest in the same way the "GrandMaster" title was meant in the beginning.
