Although the majority of the community are Electronica fans, I know there has to be some fellow Metal fans out there. Not to say there is anything wrong with Electronica. I would just like to know who's into Metal and what sub-genres you like. I'm personally a fan of Classic Metal and Hard Rock like Judas Priest and Deep Purple, but I enjoy almost all metal including Black Metal, Thrash and Death Metal.\m/

there are a lot of fans of a lot of different types of music but if you want a good music discussion thread you would be better off looking on a music discussion board.

what #2 said

people on music forums spend the same amt of time as tf2 nerds do on tf2 just finding new music, amassing their library, and cultivating their taste. MOST people here don't do that, I've found

I can't really listen to it while I play, but I consider Electric Wizard, Sleep, Dead Meadow to be 'heavy'. They're not quite technically metal but they're rough enough to fit the same mood. Drone, thrash, anything that seems a bit redundant but you don't mind are cool things to get into. Viking / melodic metal are super fun too. All of it ends up being music you listen to while you pick your cousin up from jail though.

I like metal. A lot of it tends to suck though. Another big problem is that the vocals often times suck really bad. Songs will start of being incredibly epic, but then some dude starts shouting and it ruins the whole experience.

I'm a big metal fan myself. Got to see Baroness, Meshuggah, and Decapitated on tour a few months back and I'm looking forward to how awkward the Kreator, Accept, and Swallow the Sun tour is going to be. It's obviously preference, but from what I've seen the main gripe of people about a lot of metal (death/trash/black mostly) is the harsh vocals.

I'm not trying to generalize BUT I WILL. Most people who don't like metal fall into two categories.

1.) Singing/Clean vocals are their favorite part, or instrument if you will, when it comes to music. Have you ever showed someone a song and they go "wow, this is a long intro" just because there is no vocals? I won't say it's a majority, but a large portion of people believe the song only "kicks in" when the vocals start. These people won't like tons of other genres as well as metal, but still.

2.) Vocals. As I said earlier, I can completely understand why you wouldn't like growls/shrieks/yells/etc. It's hard to explain, if you think more like the first category where the vocals are the highlight of the song and the instrumentation is the background you will not like the majority of metal for sure. I think of the vocals to accent the mood of the genre or just the particular song. They're fitting and they don't try to hog your attention away from everything else that's going on in the song.

Even though that's more like one category I'm tired as fuck and am writing things because I can't fall asleep. Fuck.

electric wizard and sleep are both metal as fuck. both are sabbath-worshiping stoner/doom bands, wizard is just more on the doom side, sleep on the stoner side. dead meadow falls into stoner rock but there is so much crossover between stoner rock/desert rock/stoner metal/stoner doom that they're relevant in any stoner/x discussion.

I don't listen to much outside of the "stoner umbrella" of stoner/doom/sludge and black metal anymore. oh and clutch.

I probably should have put Atheist on there, along with Averse Sefira and Bathory for black metal.

There are many more great bands out there. That list is just a good start for anyone looking to explore metal.

One band that I recently got into is Mekong Delta. Probably one of the most underrated Thrash bands ever.
