So far in the article, details about 4 'classes' are talked about. Looks like they're pulling an Overwatch, with some classes being able to see through walls/become temporarily invincible. Thoughts?

Sounds like it'll good if they make Overwatch, but with all the features Blizzard doesn't allow: custom HUDs and crosshairs, super-low graphics settings for clarity, hidable viewmodels, better movement, etc.

FP arena shooters have been falling out of style for years and this is a way they cut themselves into the market and capitalize off the new popularity of FP class based shooters.

edit: And the biggest problem with that is Quake is built on this "dead" genre (sparing singleplayer), so they will have an insanely difficult time bringing in new players; this is the easiest way for them to do that. They already have all the mechanics there they just have to make the classes and balance them.

If they did that, making an original Quake game and adding a class mode to it, nobody would play the class mode. Since the genre is so unpopular only old Quake fans would be buying the game and old Quake fans don't want classes since it deviates from what they're used to too much.

Updating Quake Live wouldn't work since the game is old and ugly.

tbh I think people need to wait and see just how gay the abilities are. If the (esports part of the) game is 90% CPMA but you can pick up "power orbs" that give you class abilities it won't really matter. If they try pushing it too much like TF2 or overwatch and make it team based with objectives it'll be shit tho

the IW engine is about as closely related to the quake live engine as TF2 is. By the time they added all the support for particles and rendering techniques modern AAA games need to have, they'll have done most of the work of making a new engine.

they say the scale bearer is the tank class so they will probably add different health for each class
