Headphones advice request thread #????

GENERIC THREADS YEAH - I know there's a thread from about a week ago of someone asking for headphones advice but didn't feel like bumping and hijacking.

My ATH-M30xs finally gave up the ghost after a couple good years of use, looking for a new set of headphones for a kinda £60-80 budget (I could maybe just about stretch to £90) - before anyone suggests HD558s or ATH-M50x, that was my first thought also but on Amazon UK they're both around £120 which is a little more than I can manage at the moment, I wasn't really planning to have to replace my headphones yet.

Primarily for gaming, all kinds of music, VOIP, that kinda thing. General use. A lot of the music I listen to is a pretty guitar-heavy so something with solid mids response would be ideal but it's more important to me that they work well for gaming with voice chat. Open or closed back are both fine.

I could maybe stretch to a pair of HD518s if people are under the consensus they're still worth the money (~£90 on Amazon UK) but what other options are around for my budget if any?

This pair of headphones normally cost around $300. They are now $150, but it may seem like a lot of you are on a budget but they are worth the extra money. They'll last you forever but if you want a similar headset with a microphone (with the loss of quality because they are based on the HD 558's that are cheaper than the HD 598), I highly recommend these .

AFAIK they usually go even lower during christmas season, but nonetheless, they are still a quality pair of headphones on a pretty good deal. Also check if the Special-Edition version with black accents are available, not everyone likes dem burly wood/coffee cream accents lmao.

Superlux 668b's also exist, but I've never had any experience with them, this video might also help though, it's series of videos reviewing cheap headphones from a cool dude.

Yeah unfortunately the price of Sennheisers in the UK doesn't quite comply

the uneven cord length design (of the 300-ii's at least) is the stupidest thing ever tho

I just have the right end wrapped behind my neck and it's literally never caused me issues but it is a bit dumb imo.

These are the ones I have the Sennheiser HD 280's they're $100 USD and they're quite good i'd highly recommend them. For the price it's quite amazing the quality you get.

You could get a clip on microphone for about $15 USD if you wanna talk over voip or in mumble or something.

Those are also a good choice. I found them a little tight on my head at first, but I've heard they loosen comfortably over time or you can bend the headband a bit to get a more looser fit.

If you're playing undisturbed in a quiet place where open headphones are an option I would go that route. You'll get a lot better sound for the money but obviously they'll be less versatile than some closed ones.

Grado sr60's should be in your price range and sr80's are probably worth the extra $20. I'm pretty sure they don't need amps. No idea what they might cost in the UK though.
