HildrethLet's back off this witch hunt, and focus on the main message - protecting your IP, if someone does get your IP and you are in a match what can I do to solve the issue quickly? I have very basic knowledge of this sort of thing.

http://lol.gamepedia.com/DDoS_Prevention_Guide?cookieSetup=true

I read a Wikipedia article. I'm not a sysadmin...
The consensus is "not much." DOS attacks literally overload your network to the point where you won't have internet through that IP. A VPN is the best way to mask your IP, period. Goldenfrog has a free 500mb/month option, which you can use if in dire need of a VPN. Have an account and the application on standby.

Copied from the VAC thread, figured it was relevant here:

Since this account is trashed now I figure I should let people know I was the one farming IPs and player data from serveme and PugChamp: http://www.teamfortress.tv/33093/psa-hacker-collecting-tf2-player-ips. Some proof:
Ban added to all reservations from Arie shortly after he first found me:
https://github.com/Arie/serveme/commit/c0e48aea6862eedd0e00c501bcdf96264f52b511
When what I expect was an IP ban from Arie on the server he found kicked in and shut me down:
http://puu.sh/onpNW/e27e81e352.png
Unique steam accounts and IP’s I’ve collected thus far (about 65% is from serveme alone):
http://puu.sh/oBPt1/baa205f719.png
I want to put it out there that this was more for my own curiosity than anything. The information I gathered was never used for DoS attacks nor have I ever shared (and will never share) the database with anyone else (some might not believe this but consider that I obviously don’t care about protecting my name anymore). As most of you are aware Arie has since fixed this for all versions of serveme after he confronted me and I explained what I was doing. I attempted to add tsc to explain what I had found for PugChamp but he ignored my friend request (erynn has ignored all my previous friend requests so I didn’t even try). Also after discussing with Arie how he had found what I was doing I want to throw it out there that he really goes the extra mile to protect the community (cheaters, DoS’ers, etc) and deserves some serious credit.

You added me once and I tend to ignore private profiles with no mutual friends. I get about 10 of these a day. There were other ways to contact us. Feel free to add me now if you want to talk about it.

proximoI attempted to add tsc to explain what I had found for PugChamp but he ignored my friend request (erynn has ignored all my previous friend requests so I didn’t even try).

I never received any friend request (though there was a period when nobody was able to add me due to friends list being full).

If you believe you have found an exploit, you can add me or erynn now to discuss it. You can also email us, DM @ChampGG_ on Twitter, or PM one of us on Discord.

proximodumb stuff

I don't understand what you were attempting to accomplish with this stunt. Finding an exploit and attempting to alert site owners is all well and good, but making a tool to vacuum up these files en masse is not fair to the site owners whose site was pounded with requests, and it's certainly not fair to the players whose IPs have been stolen for your own "curiosity". If you plan on doing anything similar in the future I hope you will handle it in a more responsible manner.

I just use EarthVPN. $3.99/mo and it actually helped my teammate with choke issues to my server last season.

I'd imagine that having the servers restart on making a new reservation protects against this already, but, might want to verify there are no vulnerabilities from the logaddress_add command, i.e. no way for someone to add a log-receiving server and have it stick after their reservation ends. Maybe just restrict it altogether with a custom plugin? The lobby sites use it to auto-upload logs, but you could whitelist them or require some kind of approved key to use the command.
