Hey, so, I just got a CRT monitor that does 120Hz, but I am not able to set it to the resolution I want with the refresh rate I want. I have read around a little bit and I have heard that it is because of Windows 7. Would anyone know if I can still get it to 120Hz? Or, did I buy a giant CRT monitor for nothing?

Most CRT's only do 120hz at lower resolutions.

If you got a good crt you MIGHT be able to do 120 hz at like 1024x768, but its probably like 120hz only @ 800x600 or maybe even 640x480, honestly just stick with a 60 hz, 120hz doesnt make as much of a difference as people make it seem

Well that's for DVI and HDMI, I'm assuming your CRT connects with a DB15/VGA/whatever it's called connector. I could be wrong, but I would check that real quick.

You should be able to use any of those resolutions and refresh rates.
Nothing is listed as supporting over 85Hz. This could be incorrect but you will have to test it.
All supported modes are generally listed when configuring the monitor.

Also it's a DVI to VGA converter. The video card is providing the source of the signal and convention is to list the starting signal before the ending signal.
That said that converter should have no problems running at any resolution/refresh rate supported by your or any other VGA monitor.

Yeah, I said the same thing. Then I tried one. Then I bought one immediately afterwards. It's night and day. It WILL make your tracking better.

Having gone from an 85 hz CRT to a 120 hz LCD, my experience is that the CRT's lack of input lag and response time make it look far crisper and less blurry than even a 120 hz when making rapid turns in FPS games. I wish I could get a new CRT with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

It makes a huge difference. 120hz on a CRT does feel smoother and the complete lack of input lag is nice, but the resolutions you're forced to use suck. A 120hz LCD with low input lag is nicer for gaming than a CRT these days, and won't cost you $1000 a year to operate. Besides, a CRT will give you cancer, and then it'll give your cancer cancer. And cancer of the cancer is not a good thing. Not good at all.

It's not life changing, just reeeaaaal smooth. And it's kinda crappy to go back to 60 Hz. It felt like my scout aim improved gradually and consistently, but it wasn't like I went from missing everything to hitting everything.

Apparently 120 Hz LCDs can be CRT-like.
