pretty sure comanglia's config works better for me BUT
i do like the fact that whenever i want to play the game with nice graphics (for nostalgia, etc.) i dont dip down to 30 FPS, the lowest i go is 50 / 55, 75 constant.

thanks flame :)

alright, so you change the values in your autoexec to what the game wants them to be (the derp file)?

Sorry I'm not exactly technologically in the know :p

Hm, I do get decent FPS, but isn't it a bit hard to compare because -default prevents you from increasing your FoV as well as removing view models, both of which would decrease FPS?

that's why you're supposed to use it like flame instructed. Use -default, save that as derp, use -autoconfig, etc.
Once you've done those steps you can reinstall your cfg (excluding fps commands) with your binds, fov settings, etc. Then you can start comparing it with your fps when using a graphics cfg

Ah, I misunderstood part of the post then. Thank you!

What are the commands you put in your autoexec? The same as you had before? The ones in the derp file?

Pls help ;-:

EDIT: I think I did it right and I went from around 80-90 fps with comanglia's config, I'm pretty sure this one http://www.teamfortress.tv/20172/my-fps-config (lowest 50, highest 120) to 50-60 (lowest 30, highest 90) in a pub.

Intel Core i5-4200U 1.6GHz in 2 y/o laptop.

Fire#71 I don't understand your problem :(
If you mean that pattern, that's nothing special or fixable.

It is fixable because i just need the command, with a fps config its not there

Personal Benchmarks on a midrange $800 PC (video card bottleneck):

-default: 90-190 fps. 300 max.
comanglia mid pc: 120-300. 700 max.

-default is much, much higher in terms of quality settings (to the point where particles scare me), and it is buttery smooth, same as comanglia. After switching back to Comanglia I get occasional drops to 60fps, however it's barely noticable and I'm sure its fixable.

Try changing mat_viewport, but it looks like you've already set it to 1. Try switching mat_antialias (however 0 breaks mumble overlays).

mat_viewport 0.5 vs. mat_viewport 1

using the Benchmark2 demo file from pazer's thread

Flame method
4843 frames 32.394 seconds 149.50 fps ( 6.69 ms/f) 19.496 fps variability
4843 frames 32.816 seconds 147.58 fps ( 6.78 ms/f) 20.223 fps variability
4843 frames 32.750 seconds 147.88 fps ( 6.76 ms/f) 21.977 fps variability

cowmanglia
4843 frames 27.242 seconds 177.77 fps ( 5.63 ms/f) 24.274 fps variability
4843 frames 27.191 seconds 178.11 fps ( 5.61 ms/f) 24.200 fps variability
4843 frames 27.251 seconds 177.72 fps ( 5.63 ms/f) 24.084 fps variability

Didn't work for me on a gtx 970 and an i7-4790k, 8 gb of ram at 1080p. Though I get pretty good fps so maybe this wasn't for me.

I did some more testing with random stuff in comanglias config and I noticed pretty immediately that -default turned off multicore rendering.

adding these commands boosted my fps by ~15 during the timedemo

mat_queue_mode "-1"
cl_threaded_bone_setup 1
cl_threaded_client_leaf_system 1
r_queued_decals 1
r_queued_ropes 1
r_queued_post_processing 1
r_threaded_client_shadow_manager 1
r_threaded_particles 1
r_threaded_renderables 1

obviously don't add these if youre not running a multicore pc. though i feel like it might not matter as mat_queue_mode will stop any of them from working.

i'd also like to point out that my timedemo fps is always significantly lower than my in game pub experience.

also for some reason doing a writeconfig full doesnt display any of those commands. I don't know why, its either a bug or has to do with the config writer having a max length

What's the difference between putting these in launch options and just having the standard commands in cfg?

EDIT

we're learning a lot today boys
