Help get Epsilon to DreamHack

Hi guys.

DreamHack is just under a month away and we need a little help getting there. Since we're not properly affiliated with Epsilon (just using the name for nostalgia's sake) we're looking to fund raise part of the money we need to get there.

We need about £540 from you guys. This is gonna go towards our travel expenses. The other £1,000 or so in costs we'll be covering through prize monies etc.

Hope you can help. Do people want perks? Originally I was going to do this through indiegogo for ease of perks but that would take too long to receive the money (15 business days). With imraising there's no option for that, however there are messages so perhaps something can be done.

Here is the link to donate: removed

We're going to be streaming our scrims (and officials if we're allowed?) thanks to CommanderX, who'll be covering our povs + comms at http://www.twitch.tv/marterthantheaveragebear

Thanks guys.

edit: goal reached! huge thanks to TF2center/MasterNoob for helping us out. We'll be competing as team #tf2center going forwards. I suggest you all donate to LEGO's fundraiser instead.

dashnerPlease update your imraising profile daily with your current donation total.

Imraising is great for instant funds but it's very lacking in tracking donations towards a certain goal.

How do I do that? First time ever using this, couldn't see anything about it on the settings tab.

edit: oh I see, you want me to let you guys know manually how much is needed. I'll be doing that, yes.

since PCs and tickets to the event are already covered all you have to pay for is accommodation and travel
you can stay at the event for free (although unpleasant, anything more is a luxury which you should be able to pay for), so it's only travel
from london stansted the return flight to gothenberg is £20
from berlin to gothenberg it's £92
from paris to gothenburg it's £78
in total that's £423 for flights after 2 minutes of googling
you're getting $500 at least for 4th place and you're almost certainly gonna place higher than that
this takes the flights down to £100
I know you have to get train tickets from gothenberg to jonkoping and from your respective cities to your airport but come on, £1000 for all of that?

found a better flight from paris taking the flights down to £366

accommodation: £660
flights: £366
1st place prize money: £1138
2nd place prize money: £650
costs if 2nd: £376
profit if 1st: £112

this doesn't take into account trains so they won't actually be making a profit obviously

we're not asking for £1000 for all of that? we're asking for £540. You underestimate the cost of trains and peoples access to these cities, schocky doesn't live near berlin, and i know tek at least didn't use to live near paris and used a different airport (idk about bulle & flippy, pretty sure flippy is ages away from paris, which would make flying from there either pretty impossible if the time of the flight is bad or expensive to stay in a hotel overnight while he waits + the long train journery also expensive). For me the flight is £20 from stanstead yeah, but the train & bus to get there will cost around £80 since I live about 4 hours away.

edit: also like dashner said, you're using the same accommodation as we are, which hafficool told me you were contemplating starting a fundraiser to cover, i don't think you should stay on your high horse unless you think living in the same gamer mansion for that weekend will be bearable still

Mike, the £1000 was referring to

The other £1,000 or so in costs we'll be covering through prize monies etc.

I felt the numbers were either exaggerated or you hadn't found good flights

Also I was planning on staying at the event since I'm strapped for cash, I haven't agreed to stay in the house

I don't have a problem with you asking for money from the community, I have a problem with the lack of transparency of how exactly you're spending the money you'll receive

i asked seb for everyones flights costs, but for the sake of your argument you're assuming we can all fly the cheapest available flights from our country (which isn't possible) and using the prices of those flights. To get to some of the places to fly from them will cost more total than flying from a closer airport (the flight of which costs slightly more in some cases)

Best thing you can do is give a breakdown of the costs in as much detail as you can. People will be less hesitant to give money if they can see exactly where it's going and that you guys aren't throwing money away on luxuries or even turning a profit.

From this fundraiser, £160 is going towards our train costs. £100 was going towards both mine and mike’s flights + our travel to airport (we both live ridiculously far from the airport). £140 of it is towards stefan’s flights (Hamburg, though looking right now there is one cheaper at £113. £150 is towards knox’s (now bulle’s) flight from Paris, though there is one currently cheaper. Flight prices change.

Sideshow has very generously offered to front some of the other cash, which includes roughly £300 (2 more flights from Paris), as well as the house he has arranged and paid for all the other teams which is £110 per player for the duration, totalling £660 for our team. This is why I said roughly £1000 which would be paid back ourselves through winnings etc.

Can we please not get into another pointless debate about fundraisers?

If you would like to see Epsilon play at DHW enough that it's worth x amount of $ to you to see that, then donate. Help them get there, and it'll be an awesome tournament!

If you think that Epsilon don't merit a contribution for whatever reason (lack of dedication to the game, they should get jobs, etc.), then the best way to tell them that isn't to throw a fit, it's to not donate. No one asked you to, so don't take it personally that they have a fundraiser.

All they're doing is saying "hey guys, we want to play at DHW, and we might need a bit of help to get there. So if you'd like to chip in a bit, that would be awesome." They're not expecting everyone or anyone in particular to contribute, including you! So let's just chill, and look forward to an awesome tournament in a few weeks!

*this isn't targeted at any of the above posts, rather at the inevitable future posts & argument about the fundraiser.

It isn't a pointless debate in this case, there's nothing wrong with asking for a few details so that if people are on the fence about it (for good reason, bash fundraiser) they can know exactly where their donations are going.

I've explained where the money from this fundraiser is going and what other costs there are (which we are going to cover through prize money etc.)

Either donate or don't. There isn't much to argue. We want to compete there and the tournament wants 4 teams. Initially I was just going to drop it and not go to the event, but doing so would mean only a 3 team tournament and sideshow being incredibly out of pocket due to the housing he's booked for all 4 teams.

HI I personally feel that donation drives are an amazing idea and that these 6 people from first world countries who at least 3 of which I know have been earning money in some form of another for some time and are highly likely to win the event or at least place second and therefore win the prize money almost certainly deserve to have this paid for.
