Better late than never.

Nick Diaz is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a Mixed-Martial Artist who has won the WEC Welterweight Champion Belt and the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Belt. He has also competed for the UFC Welterweight Interm Champion Belt and the UFC Welterweight Champion Belt.

The issue, he is from Stockton California and suffers from severe social anxiety so he has a medical license for marijuana. Despite having a license marijuana is still a prohibited substance to the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). He has tested positive twice before and suspended both times, on January 31, 2015 Nick Diaz competed against Anderson Silva at UFC 183 at Middleweight. Anderson Silva test positive for Steroids and get suspended for 1 year, Nick Diaz for the third time in his career tested positive for marijuana and got suspended for 5 years.

Why you should care is the NSAC does have set rules of what's allowed and what isn't, but they do not have a set number for suspensions, they judge them case by case. Nick Diaz showed up to his hearing in a black v-neck and plead the 5th Amendment to all of their questions. He is 32 now and in his prime physical shape, he will be 37 when he will be allowed to fight again out of his prime. He is strictly an MMA fighter and with his severe case of social anxiety he can't commentate, can't do much. Nick Diaz is currently signed to the UFC who don't allow their athletes to compete in any organizations and the UFC wants to remain on good terms with the NSAC so they can continue to put on huge events in Las Vegas. So since he is banned in Nevada, he is banned everywhere.

you'd think that after being suspended twice he'd stop using something that would prevent him competing regardless of its use

I left something out, didn't know how much you can have in one post. But the NSAC rules are no recreational drugs during the contest which is the week of to right after the fight. He was tested twice by USADA via blood sample which I was told that weed leaves the blood stream within days? Then he was tested once by NSAC right after the fight via urine sample and tested positive for marijuana metabolites, which is not even the parent drug of marijuana that gives you effects. And metabolites can stay in your blood stream for up to around a month. and NSAC went with their passed test instead of USADAs 2 negative tests.
