Hey anyone from the San Jose area,

I recently got some amazing news! I'm a Electrical Engineering student from Michigan, and I have been offered a paid internship/coop position at a company in San Jose. I have very eagerly accepted this offer, and have already found an apartment in San Jose near my future work place.

I start the job in May, so I will likely be leaving sometime later in April or early May. I have been to San Jose before, but I was only in the city for not more than a day, and I was with my parents on a family vacation.

My question to you guys is what should I definitely do while I am there? I will be in SJ from May - August, and then I will return another 2 times, about every other school semester. This is my first time away from home, as I attend school from home, since its like 5 mins away. I'll be 21 by the time I get out to San Jose, so I know I'll hit the nightlife to see what it's like. But what other stuff should I do while in California?

sf clubs are mostly awful but popular as hell but i doubt you will make frequent visits to sf. if you're into edm, there's usually a lot of events around nor cal. what kinds of things are you interested in?

most people say only go to sf nightclubs if there's a dj/producer that you like that will be playing there. though a lot of people say this for other places.

Visit San Francisco. Depending on the exact dates you are here, go to one of the music fesitvals (outside the lands).

If you like beer, there are a lot of incredible breweries in the bay area. (If you are willing to travel a decent distance, you should go to Russian River in Santa Rosa).

get a medical marijuana card. not kidding. so you don't have to go through the trouble of finding a dealer (unless you know you can find one).

Madoff, you should know by now the party dont start till i walk in.....

Yea, I'm not much of a club type of guy, just not my crowd. I'm more into of a smaller type of thing, not the huge rave scene, but who knows.

Key, I actually was in SF for the majority of my family vacation. My parents used to live in Mountain View, so the first few days we did SF. We drove through oakland, but didn't really stop and do anything there.

underground raves! good vibes, not-overplayed music, friendly people, not super-crowded. only if you like the music though.

but what are you interested in?

Vile I dont really need to smoke while I'm there, and karma's a bitch, next thing you know, i'll actually have a legitimate reason to have that card. Plus I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize my job with being given such a great opportunity.

haha drogo! I have actually thought about that. Mainly I was going to do that if the Wings and the sharks were playing against in the playoffs.

I mean, I just like being outside really. Hiking is one thing I have considered. I went to one of the redwood forests with my parents, and we did like a short 2-mile hike thing. There was like an 11-mile trail there also. Are there like recreational centers or something that you can just go to and meet people and do shit?

I've lived in San Jose nearly all my life and honestly, there isn't that much interesting to do. Some amusement parks you could visit are Raging Waters and Great America (i think it reopens next year in March). Other places you could go are the Tech museum in downtown San Jose, the Art Museum in downtown San Jose, and HP Pavilion for concerts/Sharks games. Oh, and winchester mystery house is pretty cool to visit once.

Man I can't wait for finals to be over so I can go home QQ

There are
SF Giants
Oakland A's
SF 49ers
Oakland Raiders
San Jose Earthquakes (Soccer)
Golden State Warriors (bball)

They've all been terrible for the last decade or so except the Giants

Haven't graduated yet, I'm in this Cooperative Education(coop) program my school does. Basically, they help you find a coop(internship) and then you work there then go to school, then go back and work, and come back to school. You do that till you graduate, or till you don't wan't to work anymore, and just want to finish your degree. It's a great way to get practical work experience though, and something that will set you apart from the rest on a resume.

Drive down the coast highway and see Monterey, Santa Cruz, etc. All the cool beach cities. And if you wanna take a couple day trip, drive to Hearst Castle. That place is boss.

A great outdoorsy place to visit is Muir Woods. Absolutely beautiful park about 30 mins north of San Francisco. Are you going to have a car when you are there?

Visit San Francisco. Alcatraz is actually pretty cool to visit. There are usually a few outdoor concerts/festivals at Golden Gate park you can visit. Oakland and San Francisco have tons a of different concerts and nice venues. Google around and you can find something you like. I wouldn't go to EDC unless you wanna roll. Its just a bunch of kids on e. SF Giants have a great park, worth it if you like baseball.

I would also tell you to go to a Sharks games but that's if there is a season. Anyway you would be there during the summer. San Jose has a MLS team which is actually pretty popular locally (as far as soccer goes). There are supposed to be getting a new stadium soon.

I live in Berkeley so I don't know too many local things in San Jose. They have a ton a dispensaries if you are into that. You can find places that don't card. San Jose has a nice little downtown but it really doesn't have that much compared to SF and Oakland.

If you can make longer/farther trips: Like #21 said, Hearst Castle is boss. Also consider going to Napa/wine country. The Tahoe/Sierra's are also beautiful in the summer. Go to Pismo Beach.

Terrible as in "they didn't win a championship." When you've seen a team like the Sharks dominate the regular season year after year and not even get to the Stanley cup Finals, the only results that seem to matter are playoff results. Yes, 49ers were good last year and the A's went on a crazy streak to make it to playoffs.

Yes, I will have my car that I drive now. I'm driving cross-country to get there. That's mainly why I want ideas, I want to take advantage of not having to bus it everywhere.

to answer your question, the area just outside ATT Park is pretty nice, theres a ton of restaurants and bars around that area, and the stadium is really nice. if you venture towards market st you'll get into the more touristy areas, and if you venture further down the other way, you will find yourself in a pretty shitty area.
