Show Content
Hey, my name is RainofLight (or just rain) and I am a scout in need of a season 20 team and GXL lan team.

I have two full seasons of open experience
after making s19 open playoffs I would prefer a playoffs open team or any IM team

I love improving in TF2 and hopefully I'll be improving with you!

regarding GXL I want a group of friendly people preferably that I already know

If you can play for season 20 again, why not just ask for your spot on gr8stalin's team back?

Regardless, he's still an excellent scout and would make a great addition to any high open team making the IM push. Give him a tryout, folks.

someone who has randomly flaked out on his team multiple times would not make a great addition to any team trying to improve regardless of his skill level

especially when he decides to act as if it never happened in his looking thread

LOL don't pretend like you know what's up

I never randomly flaked on anyone, not once have I ever just decided not to show up. Almost all of it was computer problems out of my control which I dealt with swiftly.

I know Rain is gonna get -fragged because people just see him as a cocky little fuck but I can tell all teams LF a scout this after our scrims and matches together:

Positives:

  • He's got impeccable DM for Open; there are a lot of scouts in the lower echelons of this game to pick but if you need someone who you can rely on for DM, Rain's your boy.
  • He's incredibly dedicated to whatever team he's on.
  • He's got that teenage commitment to TF2 where he can just DM 'till his eyes bleed.
  • Rain is generally a fun person to be around even though he's got that teenage awkwardness thing going on.

Negatives:

  • He doesn't really talk about what he's fighting, even though he's been working on it. On this point, he doesn't ask for help fighting things until he finds himself balls-deep within the opposing team and then frantically says "DAT HEAL ME HEAL ME".
  • It took us all of last season to keep him from going permasniper on last holds after watching demos and explaining why him playing sniper in shitty situations wasn't a good idea, especially when we were at big uber disadvantage, and would stay Sniper for entire last holds until we lost our playoffs match. Granted he stopped this, but it took an entire season and a playoffs loss for this to happen. Just be careful that he doesn't regress because it added some grey hairs to my head to get him to stop and I'm not even out of my 20s.
  • He'll generally remain silent during demo reviews and then pipe up mid-demo review OK LET'S SCRIM when there's a lull in discussion. Happened less after the post-playoffs sitdown but still happened.
  • His command of the strategy part of TF2 isn't particularly strong and like Tojo said in his LF mentor thread, Rain would be amazing if he had a mouth and a brain. This is compounded by the fact that he'd rather snipe in pubs rather than watch a PoV on his own.

Closing thoughts:
I'm not sure where to put this, but our main issue with Rain is that he'd sometimes vanish for days at a time without warning; granted most of them have been hardware related but it took this last straw for him to tell me that he gave me the wrong phone number when we all first exchanged numbers. Apparently his phone was broken too? I dunno. It happened enough to the point where we've had to play with scout combos that weren't ours for days at a time and for those ringers at our level, weren't scout mains. I'm 300% not calling that the sole reason why we've been on an impeccable loss streak because it really isn't as much as other factors, but it was really annoying.

This is my honest assessment. He's a great addition to a mid/high/playoffs-bound Open team, but not an IM one. None of us are, really, but he's definitely included.

literally all you need is internet access to log on to steam web browser

unless you don't go to school and live in rural arkansas and the only neighbors you have within walking distance are too meth'ed out to own a computer and you don't have a school or library im not sure how you would ever be unable to access a computer

Let's all love Rain!
RainofLight is probably one of my top three favorite people to play with in this game. Hes a friendly, funny guy, and his scout DM is pretty great.
That being said, hes kind of an idiot. Hes improved massively over last season, but it was very frustrating to be losing a push because rain died first, or because rain was on sniper, or because rain didnt back up or come get healed. But I feel that we have been able to help him fix at least 3 of these problems, and though he has been having a little trouble adjusting, he should be a force to be reckoned with. Would fit in on any level of open team, and he deserves to be on a damn good one.

The only thing I have to say about rain is that he told people I got cut from dangerzone when that did not in fact happen. I still don't know why he did that.

Gr8stalin summed it up well for the most part. Rain is an idiot with great DM. Our team unanimously agreed that if he ever stopped being an idiot he'd be incredible. Unfortunately, no matter who told him or what advice was given, he refused to change either his play style or comming practices at all. Billdozer's description was spot on for our entire season, with pretty much zero changes from match 1 to 16.

Rain was also definitely not 'super dedicated to the team' (but maybe he fit in with the memesquad better which drew out the full forces of friendship!!) Its true that all he does with his life is play tf2, but it's not equivalent. Rain was a complete flake. His communication when he missed scrims or matches was 0. His presence during map reviews / demos was 0, what little we did of them. If he said anything other than stale memes or duck noises it was a really fabulous day for rain. The second he learned we didnt want to play another season with him, he removed everyone from his friendslist and -karmad everyone on the team without even bothering to ask why. He's not actually unpleasant to be around, but I wouldn't bother with him for anything serious.

this was not our experience with him. it would not be strange if he matured since his first season.

2 Seasons isn't really like that long of a time frame though.

Also I still have no clue why he told people I got cut from dangerzone.

Still, saying to NOT pick someone up on their thread and only citing experiences of problems you had 2 seasons ago with them is kinda ridiculous.
