I want to switch my video editing software for another one, because i just can't stand Sony Vegas anymore. It keeps crashing, everytime i tab out it needs to reload all the medias, when i zoom it doesn't zoom on my pointer but on the selected video, etc. So I need recommandations for a new program

What do you guys use? Would you recommend it? And why? Is it hard to learn as well?
Thanks!

there's no such thing as the best video editing software. It's all about preference and how confortable you are with each software, of course some have different features but it's not as game changing as it seems.

I use Vegas for example but the best alternative to that would probably be adobe premiere albeit I never got used to it

Vegas is by far the most intuitive video editor with the gentlest learning curve. Your only other real option is Adobe Premier, which is more powerful, but simultaneously much more difficult to learn.

I like premiere/after effects but vegas is also good. IIRC in vegas it's easier to do stuff like speed ramps and some simple sound editing. It is annoying how you can't really ever have real time playback in after effects but you have a lot more power and flexibility. Premiere has pretty smooth playback because of the cuda gpu acceleration, even with multiple layers of color grading and effects it's usually fine. I would definitely watch some tutorial videos before you start trying to use AE/premiere because they are hard to get used to.

In premiere you can easily just drag and drop clips/music but figuring out how to do slow motion and fade between clips and stuff like that is more difficult

Having used Vegas over the course of high school and college, Vegas has gotten progressively worse with each release as far as crashes and general ease-of-use. If you know how to use Vegas, try going back to 8.1 or 9.0 before writing off the suite as a whole.

Having just edited a 1440p video on Vegas 10 with a 6 year old CPU, I would agree with your premise that the live preview is glacially slow. However, their marketing site for the latest version (13) claims that they recently added GPU acceleration, so that issue may in fact be solved in the most recent versions.

my only gripe with sony vegas is that the sound cuts out sometimes if you play music in with sound from tf2. Think thats because my preview settings are too high though.
