Event Info:
Date: July 26th - August 1st, 2015
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Venue: Crowne Plaza in St. Paul
Stream: http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
Schedule: https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule/

Hey guys, with the games list for SGDQ 2015 getting finalized last night, I figured I'd make a thread to see who all was interested in watching/going. I'll be there the full week, so if any of you plan on going let me know and I'd be happy to meet up with you at some point during the week, just let me know!

The schedule's not out yet, but the games list has been finalized. You can see them all here:

https://gamesdonequick.com/submission/all

or in a more organized, easier to read format here:

http://bombch.us/69Z

At the moment I believe there's at least 5-10 races that are going to occur, over 135 hours of total gameplay time, and an additional 8 hours of bonus gameplay if certain incentives are met.

Some notable races and runs that are going to be occurring:

-Super Mario 64 120 Star race between Cheese05 (WR holder), Puncayshun (#2 in 120 star) and Simply (#4 in 120 star)
-Super Mario Sunshine any% race (incentive for hoverless) between Bounceyboy (#6 in any%) and Kaffelon (WR holder)
-Donkey Kong Country All Stages race between Garrison, NewAgeRetroHippie, and Eazinn
-Sonic Advance (Amy) race between Combo Blaze, Talon2461, and Kirbymastah
-Mega Man X2 any% race between CalebHart42, bjw, trogdor, and tonic
-Yoshi's Island 100% by Trihex
-Tetris: The Grand Master Exhibition by KevinDDR
-Donkey Kong 64 (No Levels Early) by 2dos
-Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (Expert) by Geoff
-TASbot

From the TF2 community sigma will be running Lovely Planet (All Levels). If I happened to accidentally overlook another TF2 runner, let me know and I'll add you onto this post!

It's a bonus game, so chances are it'll be a donation incentive; I'm sure it'll most likely be met too.

would it be possible to get some jumpers or surfers into these things? its still a type of speed running, and would be great for spectating.

EDIT: Also hype for earthbound and shantae runs!

I think in theory it'd be possible, however they'd probably want to do more than a single map otherwise the setup time would outweigh the actual run time. It'd be cool to submit jumping/surfing as an exhibition to show off the engine's mechanics though, maybe if a group of runners were to submit something similar to the Tetris Grandmaster exhibition of AGDQ? I just don't think anyone's ever bothered submitting before, so its never been considered.

Yeah, the run is pretty insane! If no one's seen it, here's his WR video for it:

Would it be plausible to do some sort of tftv community donation? I've seen a bunch of communities do it over the years and always wondered if others from tf2 would be interested in chipping in.

I'd be down to organize that if there's actual interest. Would be pretty cool imo.

i can't believe cheese got the record, sm64 has been such a great game to follow over the past yeears. to think sig's 1:44 was untouched for an entire year, then an explosion of records start happening after puncay's rise to the top

Kind of sad MGR didn't make the cut. It was already ran earlier this year, but that game is always hype just for the soundtrack.

Sigs been grinding like fuck on stream recently, I'm expecting to see him have the record again in the near future.

yeah i saw, i hope he does, that'd be such a great resurgence of competition into the speedrunning scene. after the recent OoT any% breaks it's fell off pretty hard in the scene, but Ennop recently lost the MM record, he got it back but phil and fgg aren't far behind. It's great to see the big name speedrun games still trading off records after all these years.

Yeah it's pretty cool, the any% change in oot was huge and completely unexpected which is probably the coolest thing about it. There's apparently gonna be 100% route changes in mm too, won't see them really till summer though.

Seeing how destroyed OoT has gotten since I've started following it in 2010 has been an experience. It just makes me sad that any% is so dependent on rng now to the point that it really isn't runnable anymore; people said "any% isn't a category" after wrong warp was found, now it really isn't even a run, LOL. Similar to what happened to super meat boy any% where you play 9 levels and then beat the game, or vvvvvv any% where you can finish the game in 31 seconds. At least the other OoT categories are still competitive, it's such a great speedgame, such a beautiful accident.

The schedule for SGDQ is up! A few things are being finalized, but now you can for sure what and an estimate as to when things will be occurring.

You can find a link to the schedule here:

https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule/

And I've added a link to the main post.

Since another thread about this was made earlier today I figured I'd bump this since the event is ~a month away and it's good to have everything gathered in one thread. I have my flight booked and will, as far as I know, be on the couch for two games: Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse: HD (Monday at ~12pm EST) and Lovely Planet (Tuesday at ~5:15am EST, sigma hype!).

I know Fox is coming for the whole week and Slin is going to be there for a few days as well (although I don't think he's decided what days yet?), dunno about any other TF2 people. Awesome lineup of games though, so it should be a good time this year.

I'm so pumped you're going to be on the couch with Sigma. I'll definitely be donating during that segment.

Whoops.

But yea, super stoked for it this year. Tons of cool looking races are gonna go down, and if the Tetris section is anything like last year it'll be a huge hit.

Sorry to keep bumping this thread, but there was a slight adjustment to the schedule. Some runs were dropped as all runners are beginning to finalize their plans for the event. If your favorite game wasn't on there, maybe give it another glance over in the next few days as there's a chance some other runs might be added!

trihex is a solid start to the weekend because yoshi's island is one of the better 100% categories to watch. Carl Sagan is one of the best couch commentators in existence.

Also, did I see Pokemon Blue any% blindfolded?? I pray that incentive is met

Event starts this Sunday at 1pm edt! I'll be leaving on Saturday and tweeting about the trip + uploading things to my YouTube if anyone is curious!

I'll be hosting the event on my Twitch channel the whole week as well, so if you guys want to have a place outside of the main chat to discuss the event please feel free to stop by and invite others to come as well. The more people chilling in there, the better.

To anyone else who's going, when are you guys getting in? It'd be cool to meet up with some TF2 people and grab lunch or something at some point!
