why?

just some insight on the match, it looks like bote's starting demo won't be here tonight and instead of using one of their 10 backups they have on the roster they want to use a ringer instead. i normally have no issue allowing ringers regular season, but with that many backups and having had a whole season to have coverage for all classes i chose to deny them one. they apparently didn't even try asking their backups before trying to get a ringer instead, whats the point of having backups if you don't even try to use them? hopefully its still a good match and whoever they have show up ends up playing well.

people can still switch sides though if they feel the change in demo affects their odds. it seems a bit extreme to nullify the whole thing because of one roster change.

When I was nullifying it their captain said that they'll play 8v9.. Seems like enough of a reason to me.

they are not going to play 8v9. if they do then that is a slap in the face to every backup they have on the roster telling them they're not good enough to play.

i mean it was 87% mTs before the announcement, so it would really be pointless. the people betting for bote are just the people who always bet underdog no matter what.

We have asked, only person both capable and willing to play Demoman is Vacationer, and in past weeks he hasn't been able to sub in as Soldier due to computer problems so we were both stressed and panic'd by the situation that came to us this morning.

We simply believe that due to a lack of proper adjustment and knowledge that it is simply unfair for those betting on this match as well as those that would watch/cast. Dimento became so hopeless that he literally wanted to forfeit because he's gone mad and lost his mind. To which he was informed that we would either play 8v9 or i'll just get someone else to play Spy (insert Skag on Spy, myself on Engineer and then Tiny on Heavy) and we'd just hope to not get spawn camped.

Regardless, we're showing up. Regardless, we're playing. It's unfortunate that we have been unable to find a reliable Demoman backup the entire season. This was something we briefly discussed before replacing Muma, but at the time, we felt comfortable with Freestate's raw DM and our teams ability to adjust to adversity and stay competitive. Sadly, the worst case scenario has happened, Murphy's Law, and so the casters have been informed so that we do not waste their time or the time of the people watching. Vacationer has now stated that he can and will play so that is who we're going with unless a miracle *cough* Freestate signing on *cough* he is our Demoman.

I was misinterpreted and then completely misquoted. When I said we were playing 8v9, I simply meant we were going with someone who hasn't played Demo for us and has only rang less than a handful of times throughout the season. There will be 9 players, but it'll certainly feel like 8 at times. I also never said that we were going to forfeit, however I did say that Dimento wanted to forfeit (because he's an insane Spy main).

i respect your decision to cut muma without any real demo backups, we think about cutting giraffe after every game

I wanted to bet on you since the odds were quite tempting and you had somewhat of a chande (and I don't always bet on an underdog), would be unfair to carry on with bets if only few had this knowledge (especially since it's such a short notice even people who do the research could fail to get to know it).
Switching sides exists mainly as a fallout of using PMU with moving odds, it's so the people can react to that it really shouldn't be an excuse for letting the games with such a short notice fuckup happen.
The other thing is that I wouldn't really add this game if I knew that from the beginning as with odds close to 100% on one side there are no winners sadly :(
Nonetheless feel free to enjoy the stream if it's happening! There will be more occasions to bet so dw about it :)

I don't know if you follow other Highlander teams very closely given the amount of security you have starting on mTs for years now, but finding a demoman who is able to compete at the top of Platinum yet is also willing to learn and dedicate to the nuances of Highlander is incredibly difficult for teams outside of the top. It's the largest hurdle for newer teams in Platinum that slow them down from reaching the upper parts of the division despite having very talented players on other classes. I can't emphasize this enough.

I respect your decision to deny their ringer, but given how class-specific Highlander is not all of those backups may actually play demo and since there is a huge expectation for a demo's performance at the top of Platinum, I wouldn't have been surprised if all 10 of those backups fell a little short of that. If their best bet for the team after Muma was having Freestate off-class (who is a great demo but it's not his best class), then I also hope that gives you a better picture of how badly top tier demo mains are wanted in Highlander but are in short supply. I think that allowing the ringer would have been a more fair decision towards bote's chances in playoffs.

Man, Dimento just totally has MTS's number. I wonder how many kills he's had on the combo between their two meetings.
